Chapter 265
Chapter 265
Her gut instinct told her that the man would not settle the score with Zoey solely for her. After all,
nobody could easily flee after offending such a prominent family as the Shurmer family.
“Cadence, don't try to bluff me. Zoey Shurmer is the heiress of the Shurmer family. Not to mention, her
father and brother are renowned figures worldwide. Will you take the risk to step on the Shurmer
family's toes for my sake?”
“I won't,” Cadence replied candidly.
“You!” Rhonda was riled up in an instant. However, something occurred to her, and she calmed down.
She could not help but scoff, “Hmph! What a heartless answer. Anyway, I believe you. Tell me now.
How are you planning on making her into your scapegoat? Why did you set her up?”
Cadence beckoned to her. “Come here.”
Pursing her lips, Rhonda remained standing in the same spot for quite a while before she advanced
toward him reluctantly and sat down beside him.
On the heels of that, Cadence turned to pin her under him.
Rhonda snapped in exasperation, “Have you gone nuts? I only had a miscarriage a few days ago and
haven't fully recovered. How can I do the deed with you now?”
Arching his brows, Cadence brushed his fingertip against her alluring lips as he stated ambiguously,
“Ha! There're many methods to gain pleasure. Let's have fun with a new method today. For instance,
you can please me with your mouth.”
A hint of indignance flickered in Rhonda's eyes. Deep down, her abhorrence toward the man
intensified. She tilted her head instinctively to avoid him, but the man above her gripped her chin
viciously.
“Let go of me!”
“Are you sure you want me to let go of you? If you can't please me today, you won't be able to get any
clue about what you have been wanting desperately from me.”
“You...” Rhonda stared at the sheer indifference in his eyes. After what seemed like an eternity, she
eventually gave up struggling. Stifling the resentment over the humiliation and shame, she had no
choice but to submit to him. “Get it done quickly. You must keep your promise to clear my doubt after
that.”
“Of course.” Cadence carried her toward the bedroom right away and reassured her, “Don't worry. That
heiress of the Shurmer family has apparently dug her own grave and stepped on my toes. I'll seek her
out for payback for your sake to return your favor for serving me well these days.”
Rhonda was rendered speechless.
In a ward of the medical base, a child's voice sounded and reverberated to every corner. “Are you
Justin Xuereb?”
Leaning against the bed, Zephyr tilted his head as he stared at the man drawing his blood with
glittering eyes.
Justin momentarily froze before he looked up gradually. As he fixed his gaze on the boy's face that
bore a strong resemblance to his, there was an indecipherable expression on his face. This is property © of NôvelDrama.Org.
“Yeah! I'm Justin Xuereb. Nice to meet you. I heard you have expertise in the medical field. You even
completed a paternity test yourself at such a young age.”
In an instant, Zephyr's expression darkened as he mumbled, “However, it seems to be an indisputable
fact that doctors can't cure themselves. Mr. Xuereb, since you're a skillful doctor, I'm sure you can
sense that I don't have much time left with a glance. What's the point of me being highly talented in the
medical field? I can't even save my own life, let alone the lives of others!”
Justin cast his head down slightly to conceal the intense sorrow in his eyes.
That was the first time he was face to face with his son. It was already unbearable for him to look at the
boy's pale and sunken face. He seriously had no idea how Veronique had endured everything
throughout the past few years.
Despite being a skillful doctor, he could only watch helplessly as his own child suffered from a critical
illness. No words could describe his despair.
“Mr. Xuereb, can't you try to take a liking to my Aunt Veronique? In truth, she's a good woman who
deserves to be cherished and loved by any man.”
Justin's body trembled slightly. Looking up at Zephyr, he queried hoarsely, “Since you claim that she
deserves to be cherished and loved by any man, why do you only choose to ask me if I can try to love
her?”
Looking intently into Justin's obsidian eyes with a solemn look, Zephyr elucidated earnestly, “It's
because she only loves you. Mr. Xuereb, Aunt Veronique really loves you very much. In fact, I guess
you're the only person she can truly rely on in this world. In actuality, I've been looking forward to
meeting you for a chat long ago. Other than Aunt Veronique, there isn't much for me to worry about
before I'm gone forever. If you like her too, could you please promise me to take good care of her for
the rest of her life?”
Justin's frown deepened into a scowl. Why does he sound as if he's giving his last words?
He rubbed his head hard with his palm before his authoritative voice sounded. “Don't overthink. Since
your Aunt Veronique sought my help to treat you, I'll give it my all to save your life. Don't talk nonsense
again, okay? If your Aunt Veronique overhears this, won't she be feeling down in the dumps?”
The next second, a smile broke out on Zephyr's face. Even though he still looked pale, there was an
unmissable hint of warmth in his smile. “Mr. Xuereb, you like Aunt Veronique, don't you? You've been
treating her indifferently so the Fletcher family won't target her and inflict harm on her, right? I got it. I
guess I know what I should do now.”
Justin was at a loss for words to refute. Just as he was about to open his mouth, Veronique opened the
door and stepped into the ward.
Sensing the unusual atmosphere between the father and son, she knitted her brows. Shooting Justin a
puzzled look, she tried to question him discreetly about whether he had said something he shouldn't
have to Zephyr.
Justin could only smile wryly. Is she planning to keep things under wraps from our son forever? No
way! Since he's my son, he should live together with me. A father and his son should lead a blissful life
together without being separated from each other.
“Ah! Aunt Veronique, you're here. I like Mr. Xuereb very much. When I jokingly requested him to marry
you so I could call him Uncle Justin a while ago, he didn't turn me down either.”
Veronique was dumbfounded. After regaining her composure, she reprimanded, “Zephyr, don't talk
nonsense. Mr. Xuereb has a fiancée.”
Justin was irked by her words instantaneously. Having a new identity as a father, he definitely hoped
his son could have the best first impression of him. Now that she tells our son that 'Mr. Xuereb has a
fiancée,' how will my son think of me?
“We are not legal husband and wife yet. Thus, there are still uncertainties. Anyway, engagement is far
from marriage and can be broken off at any moment.”
Veronique stared at him in bafflement. What does he mean? Could it be he's planning to break off his
engagement with Scarlett Fletcher? Fine, even if he doesn't care how the Fletcher family will retaliate
after he breaks off the engagement, has he ever thought about how he can talk Scarlett into donating
her bone marrow to save Zephyr then?
“Justin, you...”
Justin had a hunch about what she was going to say, but he did not plan to give her any chance for
that. With that, he snorted coldly and headed toward the door with his walking stick.
“Aunt Veronique, didn't you notice it's inconvenient for Mr. Xuereb to move? Quick! Give him a hand
now,” Zephyr urged.
Veronique had no choice but to give in to him.
“Didn't you say that you'll get married to Scarlett soon and request her to donate her bone marrow to
Zephyr? How could you think of breaking off your engagement? Justin, you are pulling my leg, aren't
you?” Veronique lowered her voice as she helped the man out of the ward.
Pulling her leg?
There was a change in Justin's countenance. Evidently, he was boiling with rage. The next second, he
turned around, gripped her shoulders, and pinned her against the wall.
“Are you serious? Do you really want me to marry Scarlett Fletcher?”
