Chapter 264
Chapter 264
Bailey returned to the Luther Group's headquarters in the afternoon.
The moment she opened the office door, a figure darted toward her like a gust of wind. She instinctively
threw a punch to fend it off.
The next second, a man's arm suddenly appeared on her waist out of nowhere. Dumbstruck, she
quickly withdrew her fist. Otherwise, she presumed the man's stunning face would have been bashed
in by her punch. Exclusive © material by Nô(/v)elDrama.Org.
In the blink of an eye, the man wrapped his arms tightly around her. Before she knew it, her back had
slammed hard against the wall.
D*mn it! It hurts!
Even her internal organs seemed to ache from the massive impact.
What an idiotic scoundrel!
“Artemis Luther, what's the matter with you again?”
Before she was in time to see the man's face clearly, he bent down to kiss her passionately, devouring
her lips to the fullest.
Bailey could not fathom why the man seemed to have suddenly gotten overexcited. Moments later, a
sharp pain originated from her lips.
At the peak of fury, she burst out laughing instead.
What a scoundrel! He's like a mad dog that has been starving and bites me whenever he has the
opportunity! My goodness! I can't even break free.
Unequivocally, Artemis was a man known for his stubbornness to the point of insanity. Once he fell
head over heels for a woman, he would be willing to do anything for her.
Sometimes, she could not help wondering if it was a blessing or misfortune when such a man loved her
wholeheartedly.
“Bailey Jefferson, I want you so badly. I'll surely go insane without you.” A hoarse, low voice sounded
near her ear, breaking her out of her reverie.
Bailey looked up into his obsidian eyes. The sheer affection in them was the reason she could never
doubt his devotion to her.
He must love me from the bottom of his heart. Unfortunately for him...
She raised her hand slowly and brushed it against his eyebrows before covering his eyes. With a
hoarse voice, she reassured him, “Aren't I in your arms now? Where do you think I can go? Don't
overthink, okay? Don't ever lose your mind because of me either. Do you know how terrifying you are
when you go berserk? I'm worried stiff that you might stir up a bloody turmoil worldwide after losing
your mind.”
Artemis held her hand and placed it on his chest before mumbling in a raspy voice, “Bailey, you are just
like my heart. You should know that I can never survive without you. If you still doubt my love for you,
you can cut open my chest and take out my heart to have a good look.”
Narrowing her eyes, Bailey gazed at him. “What happened?”
“Nothing.” Artemis stepped backward, loosening his grip on her gradually. “The Cyber Security
Department is tracking down the hacker who hacked into the research institute's database. Since you'd
left traces in the system, I foresee them coming after you. Bay, give me Spook's account number and
password, okay?”
Bailey knitted her brows.
If he had made such a request some time ago, she would have gladly agreed without thinking twice.
After all, his safety scarcely meant anything to her back then.
However, how could I let him risk his life for me without batting an eyelid now? Doesn't he know that
once the department gets to the bottom of the matter, they'll file a lawsuit against the one who hacked
into the database of a national 4-star research institute? If so, he won't be able to go against the legal
department openly despite his omnipotence.
“Why are you bringing up this matter again? Didn't I tell you that I'll look for others—”
“You'll look for others to take the rap for you?” Artemis gazed at her and shook his head. “I reckon you
won't have the heart to do that, so don't lie to me, okay? Come on. Give me the account number and
password.”
Bailey looked up to meet his gaze and stated resolutely, “No way. I won't let you take the risk and
tarnish your reputation. Artemis Luther, you should know that I've fallen you. Thus, stop pestering me to
do something that will place you in a precarious position.”
Artemis Luther, you should know that I've fallen for you.
At that moment, Artemis' heart leaped with joy, and his face lit up as he stared at her.
Taking her face in both hands, Artemis asked excitedly, “You've fallen for me? Is it true?”
Thunderstruck, Bailey was rendered speechless.
What did I say? D*mn it! I must have blurted out the words after feeling dizzy because of his kiss!
“You must have heard wrongly. How could I possibly fall in love with a scoundrel?”
Artemis was momentarily stunned before he laughed heartily. “Fine, I'll be a scoundrel then. As long as
you fall for me, I won't even mind how you cuss me.”
Bailey was utterly speechless. Hmph! He's undoubtedly good at twisting my words!
She heaved a sigh before uttering softly, “I'm planning to participate in the International Programming
Competition. If I can come up with a complete source code to boost the development of 5G internet, it'll
count as me making a big contribution to the country. Thus, my crime of hacking into the research
institute's database to obtain the data illegally will, hopefully, not be a big deal by then. You don't have
to take the risk for me since there's already a solution in my mind.”
Artemis arched his brows.
Ah! That's what we define as husband and wife sharing the same sentiments. Surprisingly, we have the
same idea in mind!
Seeing that he was not doubtful at all, Bailey could not resist smiling. “You've thought about this
method long ago, haven't you? I reckon you've even pulled strings for me so I can gear up once I say
yes.”
Artemis chuckled and stretched out his hand to tap her nose. “Undeniably, it's stressful to have an
intelligent wife. I hope I'll be able to handle you in the future. Bay, it won't be easy to come up with the
source code for 5G internet. Countless software companies worldwide have been giving their all to
develop it, but to no avail, even after a few years have elapsed. Do you have any confidence?”
Bailey raised a brow and smiled with a flicker of confidence in her eyes. “Have you forgotten about the
research for anti-cancer medication? Wasn't I the one who had a breakthrough previously? You might
think I only spent one month coming up with the medication. In actuality, I'd put in a lot of effort over the
past few years. At the same time, I have been working on this source code, and there's some progress.
Let me give it a try, okay?”
A gentle expression graced Artemis' face. It was precisely because she was so incredible that he could
not restrain himself from being obsessed with her.
“Okay! You take some time to get ready. I'll contact Ken and ask him to register for you.”
Bailey gladly responded with a hum.
After sending him off, she headed toward her desk in haste.
First, she scrutinized the computer for a while and was convinced that nobody had touched it. Next,
she turned it on to access the internal system and went through it. After ensuring that nobody had
hacked into it, she eventually heaved a sigh of relief.
Earlier on, she could not help suspecting that Artemis had used her computer. He could have seen her
copy of the resignation letter and guessed that she wanted to flee from Hallsbay. That was why he
suddenly seemed to be overreacting.
Leaning back in her swivel chair in silence, she stared blankly at the office opposite her. In that instant,
her eyes began to well up with tears.
Artemis, I'm grateful for your appearance in my life. Those moments will be the most memorable ones
in my memory. Even though you don't mind that I'd given birth to two children for your younger brother,
the relationship between us is destined to be a forbidden one—a boundary that we can never cross.
In the meantime, Cadence was lounging on the couch with a glass of chilled wine in his private
mansion. Quirking his brows, he fastened his gaze on Rhonda, who was standing right opposite him at
the moment.
“So do you mean to say that Zoey Shurmer gave you the abortifacient, and she was also the one who
drugged you during the wedding ceremony?”
Gritting her teeth, Rhonda hissed, “It must be her! Cadence, she killed your child. Do you think you can
let her off without settling the score with her?”
Narrowing his eyes, Cadence responded placidly, “Of course not. That's why I set her up, so she'll
become my scapegoat. Just wait for it. The heiress of the Shurmer family who has gained fame
worldwide will be in prison in no time.”
Startled, Rhonda furrowed her brows and asked, “What do you mean?”
