Chapter 231
Chapter 231
Over in the laboratory, Artemis narrowed his eyes, looking at the drug in Bailey's hand. “Are you sure
it's contaminated?” Content © provided by NôvelDrama.Org.
Bailey threw him an icy glance. “I'm the one who researched this drug, so I know it like the back of my
hand. Do you think I won't realize any differences if there's some reaction?” she enunciated every
word.
Okay... She didn't have to respond this defensively, but I guess she's right. This drug can save lives. If
it's contaminated with other substances, people might end up dead. Any medical researcher would be
pissed if this were to happen.
“Fine. It's clear how we can solve this since you've confirmed it. This reagent is taken from Dyke
Pharmaceutical, meaning either the executives in that company are bought over or the company's core
management team is problematic. I'll send someone to get to the bottom of this.”
Bailey smiled at his suggestion. “Why should we investigate? There's no need for that. As long as this
drug is not sold to the consumers but remains in the warehouse, there's nothing we should be worried
about. Just let them produce as many as they want until we find the evidence of their crime, identify the
culprit, and completely stamp out this unethical player in the pharmaceutical industry.”
Artemis' eyelids twitched.
This woman is savage. How she deals with this issue is solid proof of why no one should ever cross
her path. She holds a grudge forever.
“By the way, do you know anything about Dyke Pharmaceutical? Who backs this company?” Bailey
asked.
Artemis frowned and fell into a brief silence. “It's a subsidiary under Shurmer Group.”
Bailey paused and asked, “Shurmer Group? You mean the family from Lostaria.”
“You're right. Zeke Shurmer is the person at the helm of the family now. I heard he'll be coming to
Hallsbay with his parents for someone's death anniversary in two days. Do you want me to contact
him?”
“No,” Bailey answered, shaking her head. “He's responsible for his company's mismanagement. If you
expose his shortcoming now, you're making an enemy out of him. Besides, we don't know if he's
involved himself. We might end up alarming him. What about I ask Juliana to reach out and talk to him
in private? We'll test the waters and see what's his stance. As for you, you should keep out of this for
now.”
Artemis' brows raised in a smile. “Honey, are you worried about me?”
“Get lost. Don't make me puke,” Bailey snapped, kicking him.
Meanwhile, at a highly-accredited national medical research center in the capital, Veronique met an
elderly man in the lounge.
“Mr. Yardley, Father sent me here. He told me you'd found a bone marrow match for Zephyr. Do you
mind giving me their contact so I can ask them if they're willing to donate their bone marrow?”
Veronique asked.
The person in charge of the research institute sighed when he heard Veronique's request. “It's not that I
don't want to give you the details of that person, but she's not someone who gives offers easily. Her
information is top secret because of her status. Giving you her details means I'm going against my
superiors.”
Veronique bit her lip.
It had been days since she came to the capital, and Mr. Yardley had avoided her all that time, so
Veronique figured the person who was a bone marrow match with Zephyr must be influential.
That was why even someone as respectable as Mr. Yardley had to act carefully not to offend that
person, but Veronique had no choice.
That was her last hope.
She shot up from her seat and went to her knees. “Mr. Yardley, you must've heard of Zephyr's condition
from my father. He doesn't have much time left, so please, Mr. Yardley. Could you give me the person's
contact number? I'll never disclose anything to anyone.”
Mr. Yardley sighed and reached out with one hand to help her up. “The information is all stored in the
research center's database. People will know I'm the person who revealed the data if there is a leak.
This means the whole institution will be caught in a legal tangle. I hope you see where I'm coming
from.”
Veronique paled when Mr. Yardley spoke plainly about the consequences.
She knew it would be unreasonable for her to insist.
“I understand, Mr. Yardley. Sorry for taking up your time.”
With that said, she turned to make her way out with a stagger.
“By the way,” Mr. Yardley suddenly called out with a smile. “Her details are in my center's database, but
I'm not the only source from whom you can retrieve this information. You're a tech-savvy young woman,
so I'm sure you know other means of getting it.”
Veronique's eyes glimmered as she turned around swiftly. “Thank you, Mr. Yardley! Thank you! I know
what I should do,” she exclaimed in a nasal voice.
“All the best.”
Back in the ward at the medical base, Bailey had just given Maxton an injection and was about to sit
beside him for a chat. Suddenly, a ringtone came from her phone on the bedside cabinet, and she
reached for it.
Veronique?
“Maxton, why don't you watch the TV first? I need to get this call. I'll come back and talk with you after
this.”
After leaving, she slid her finger across her phone screen to pick up the call. “Vero, have you found the
person?”
“Bay, I need your help. Could you put me through to the renowned international hacker called Spook?”
Bailey was stumped by her request.
Spook?
“Why are you looking for Spook?”
“Mr. Yardley said he couldn't tell me who that person is himself and asked me to think of other ways to
hack the research center's system. The best hacker I can think of is Spook,” Veronique explained.
Bailey smiled, shaking her head.
I see.
“You got the right person, Vero. I'm Spook. Don't freak out, okay? Give me half an hour. I'll send that
person's details to your phone. You have nothing to worry about. I'll settle this for you.”
Bailey hung up immediately without even thinking about how shocked Veronique would be.
Then, she returned to the ward and explained the situation to Maxton before heading back to her study.
On her way back, she received a text from Veronique.
The message read: What the heck? Are you really Spook? Am I living in some sci-fi world? I can't
believe it! Speaking of, is it okay for you to hack the research center's database?
Bailey's lips curved into a smile as she typed a reply: I hacked Artemis' back account in Spaunia and
took three billion from it. For that, he pursued me across the globe but still failed to find me after half a
year, so you have nothing to worry about. I even hacked the Security Agency's blood bank system
before, so this is not a big deal.
At the same time, over at Luther Group's headquarters, Dwayne barged into the office with important
news.
“Look! Artemis! Spook has just signed in! Quick! Take a look!”
While speaking, he dropped his laptop right in front of Artemis, and the latter looked down at the
screen.
Artemis ran his fingers across the keyboard and located Spook's whereabouts.
“Why do I feel like this location looks familiar?” Dwayne asked, staring at the location.
He was right, for the location displayed was Justin's medical base.
Instead of replying to Dwayne, Artemis continued going through the documents on his table.
When Dwayne saw this, he swept the documents aside and asked anxiously, “Aren't we going to stop
this guy? He fooled you and made you run all over the place for him. It was super exasperating.”
Bam!
Artemis slammed the pen against the table and got up to leave. “You take care of all the documents for
me since you're so free,” he ordered as he walked out.
Seriously?
Meanwhile, Bailey pored over the details with a complicated expression on her face in the study at the
medical base.
So, she's the bone marrow match.
