Chapter 59
While she verbally agreed to go along with him, her actions clearly showed she was picking fights at every turn. Even a blind man could see their relationship was on the rocks. Selena couldn't help but laugh in frustration. Was he seriously playing the victim now?
She didn't bother arguing. Instead, she looked up at him with a blank expression and said, "It's tough to swallow something you don't like, isn't it? I've been forcing myself to stomach things I hate for three years for your sake, and you can't even handle one lousy meal?" She scoffed, "You're quite the delicate flower, aren't you?"
Everett was caught off guard by her bringing up old grievances and snapped back, "Who tgold you to bend over backward for me? Did I twist your arm?"
In his memory, she was always smiling, seemingly content. When did that change?
"Right, you didn't ask me to, and you didn't force me."
Selena nodded with a smile that didn't reach her eyes. "So, you're saying it's all on me, that I'm just being stupid."
Everett was taken aback.
Her smile, usually enchanting with stars in her eyes, was now sharp and unsettling.
He was always the bold and confident type; he couldn't stand this self-deprecating side of her. Just as he was about to clarify, she continued. "Who hasn't fallen for a few losers when they were younger? The key is realizing it and waking up in time."
She looked him up and down deliberately. "I've woken up now, haven't I? If I could go back, I wouldn't have agreed to marry you three years ago!"
Each word was like a stab to his heart, especially the last sentence, which hit a nerve and made him boil with anger.
"Selena, if not me, then who would you marry?"
Without missing a beat, Selena replied, "Anyone would be better- than you. If I'd married someone Sethree years ago, maybe i'd have a kid by now!"
After her parents passed, her uncle was kind, but night after night, she dreamt of rushing to the hospital and watching the doctors cover their bodies with white sheets. It was bone-chilling.
In a vast, cold world, she wandered alone, cold, tired, and hungry.
So she desperately longed for someone to be by her side, for a home, for children of her own.NôvelDrama.Org holds this content.
Three years ago, when the Bennetts came with a proposal, she thought she'd found her salvation. She pinned all her hopes on Everett, but he let her down.
A vein throbbed in Everett's temple, her words hitting him like a series of punches.
His anger flared as he pressed her against the wall, pinning her hands above her head, and kissed her fiercely.
He crushed and ravaged. Her mouth was meant to please men, not to speak. Not a single word she said was music to his ears.
Selena was caught off guard by his sudden loss of control. Furious and frustrated, she struggled with all her might. "Get off...mm..." Her words were swallowed, and her strength was nothing against him. He held her tighter, like an unyielding fortress. Selena's eyes filled with anger. In desperation, she bit down hard.
The metallic taste of blood spread between their lips, making Everett pause. His brow furrowed slightly, and he slowly lifted his gaze to her. He looked at her from such a close distance.
Instead of backing off, it seemed to ignite a fire in him, stripping away his polished exterior and revealing the raw, untamed side beneath. He whispered low, his hand moving to her lower back, pulling her closer, and leaned in to bite her neck.
