Chapter 58
Weren't they in the middle of a cold war, maybe even on the brink of divorce? What on earth did he miss?
Everett's eyes, dark and piercing, flicked over. He responded with a cool retort, "When did we ever have relationship problems?"
Selena scoffed inwardly. Who would buy that story?
Callum seemed to glance over, or maybe it was just a trick of the light.NôvelDrama.Org holds this content.
Only Jaime looked genuinely puzzled. When had their relationship ever been smooth sailing?
Jaime wanted to speak up, but the moment he opened his mouth, he felt the intense, silent warning from his buddy. Instantly, he snapped back to reality.
To keep himself out of trouble, he figured it was best to zip his lips and focus on the food!
Swallowing his words, he changed the topic. "Ahem. Let's get the food rolling."
When it came to dining and having a good time, Jaime was top-notch; no one dared challenge that. The dishes he ordered were a delight, tempting anyone who took a look.
Selena, a foodie at heart, felt her cravings stir instantly. Picking up her fork, she dove in with gusto. After all, there was no need to play the part of a demure lady in front of Everett anymore. Watching her eat like she hadn't in days, Everett's brow furrowed. At lunch, she barely touched her food in front of him, but now, with Callum around, her appetite was back with a vengeance. He found himself glancing at Callum, who was watching Selena with a slight, amused smile as if he found her antics charming.
A sharp pang of annoyance hit Everett, though he masked it well. He picked up a piece of broccoli and placed it on Selena's plate. "Sweetheart, don't hold back if you like it." Then he proceeded to pile on more dishes, almost overflowing her plate.
Jaime, ever the jokester, chimed in, "Hey, spare a thought for us single folks, will you? We came for a meal, not a show of affection."
Everett's gaze shifted to Callum. "You two aren't getting any younger. Maybe it's time to find someone and settle down, so the elders stop their nagging."
"Oh, look at that. Everett's playing matchmaker now. Is that what happens once you're married?" Jaime teased.
Callum kept his usual calm demeanor, smiling gently, not engaging but not denying either.
Turning back, Everett noticed Selena hadn't touched a single thing he'd served her. Everything was pushed to the side. His eyes narrowed slightly.
Suppressing his irritation, he leaned in and whispered, "Why aren't you eating? Or is it just that the food I picked isn't to your taste?"
His tone was light but carried a hint
of pressure, almost like an
accusation. The message was clear: since she agreed to put on this act, she should at least pretend convincingly! en FindNovel
Selena understood his meaning well enough, but... was it her fault she didn't want to eat them? The dishes he picked weren't her favorites. Even after three years of marriage, he even had the nerve to give her rice, knowing full well she loathed it; it always upset her stomach. Was he trying to be affectionate or just messing with her?
But now wasn't the time to make a scene. Selena forced herself to eat, feeling her temper rise. She started to serve Everett in turn.
With deliberate care, she piled his
plate with greasy, spicy, sour, and sweet dishes. She beamed at him. "Honey, you've been looking a bit thin lately. You should eat up too."
To prevent his refusal, she added, "Here, let me help you."
She picked up a piece of spicy wings and brought it to his lips.
Everett's expression tightened, but he opened his mouth, swallowing it with minimal chewing. Selena quickly offered him another bite, not giving him a moment's pause.
After a while, his discomfort was obvious. Suddenly, he stood up. "Excuse me for a moment."
With that, he grabbed Selena's wrist, pulling her up, and strode out of the private dining room.
Bursting into the empty men's restroom, he locked the door behind them, his eyes flashing coldly as he glared at Selena. His voice was sharp, "Selena, are you trying to push my buttons?"
