Chapter 2148
“Where’s the target? How far are they from the tavern?”
Dalen’s voice raised a couple of decibels in the earpiece, evidently excited. Besides the elite fighters lying in ambush, there were also numerous scouts lurking around the tavern, with Miles being one of them.
If there was any movement, they would be the first to know.
“At the entrance to East Alley, about 200 meters away from the tavern,” Miles’ voice rang out once more, accurately pinpointing the location.
“What are they wearing?” Dalen asked.
“Looks like they’re dressed in black with a mask. It’s hard to see clearly from this distance.”
Since it was already dark, visibility was low, making it difficult to make out the details.
“That should be the assassin!” Dalen lowered his voice. “Everyone, listen to my command. Once the assassin gets close enough, we’ll surround him immediately and have him apprehended!”
After a long, anxious wait, they finally caught sight of the assassin.
Dustin glanced outside the window as he listened to the voices through his earpiece. Just as they mentioned, a blurry figure had appeared at the entrance of East Alley.
The figure moved slowly, hiding within the darkness. Occasionally, he would glance around, appearing highly vigilant.
Suddenly, the figure seemed to notice something and stopped in his tracks, remaining motionless.
After standing still for a good three minutes, the figure turned and picked up the pace, leaving without hesitation.
“Oh no! He’s heading back!” Miles suddenly exclaimed.
“What? He’s heading back? Has our cover been blown?” Ruby asked.
“He’s too vigilant. He must have caught onto something,” Miles explained.Text content © NôvelDrama.Org.
“Mr. Shade, what do we do now? Do we go after him?” Crystal asked.
“This is our only chance. Get him!” Dalen didn’t hesitate and gave the order to attack. He knew that if they missed this opportunity, their chances of apprehending the assassin again would be slim to none.
“Charge!” Following Dalen’s command, the elite fighters lying in ambush came out of hiding and rushed toward the figure.
Upon realizing he was being ambushed, he immediately sprinted away at once with astonishing speed.
The martial artists chased after the figure while also taking shortcuts to encircle their target. For a moment, the alley was bustling with noise-footsteps, shouts, and curses filled the air.
Dustin remained in the tavern. Looking out the window at the receding crowd, he was deep in thought.
Instead of joining the chase, he continued drinking. He had a feeling that the figure wasn’t the real assassin. If Dalen’s intel was accurate, the real assassin should bear congenital defects.
Even though they were extremely skilled, their movements would have betrayed some level of clumsiness due to their physical constraints.
Yet, the person who just fled exhibited agility without any discernible impairments. Therefore, it was highly unlikely that they weren’t the true assassin.
It was, however, possible that they were an accomplice to the assassin. That raised the question-if the assassin wasn’t here, where would they be hiding?
Suddenly, a slow, rhythmic sound of footsteps echoed from behind Dustin.
The tavern, now empty, felt eerily quiet, with only Dustin seated alone. Even the slightest sound of footsteps seemed jarring.
“Hmm?” Dustin’s head snapped at the noise.
