Just then, Caroline nudged Lara with her elbow, jolting her back to reality.
Pulling her attention away from the crowd, Lara awkwardly surveyed her surroundings. Once she spotted Alpha King Larry, she offered a slight nod and greeted him, “Alpha King Larry.”
In response, Alpha King Larry simply nodded back without any expression.
Lara’s gaze then landed on Alpha Kilian, and upon seeing the bandage on his body, a trace of worry flickered across her eyes.
“Alpha Kilian…” she hurriedly approached him, pushing Donna aside.
Although unintentional, her actions caused displeasure among those who witnessed it.
Particularly, Alpha King Larry looked at Lara with dissatisfaction in his eyes.
Ben noticed this and was about to speak up when Nelly stopped him.
His glare towards Lara turned icy.
“Alpha Kilian, how are you feeling? How did you get so badly injured?” Lara asked, her voice filled with concern as she moved closer to him.
But upon seeing the blood seeping through his bandage, her eyes welled up with tears.
Meanwhile, Alpha Kilian didn’t miss her earlier actions, and his annoyance grew. This text is © NôvelDrama/.Org.
Locking eyes with Lara, he said, “Lara, you bumped into someone just now!”
Confusion colored Lara’s reply, “Huh?”
Alpha Kilian glanced at Donna and patted the spot next to him, gesturing for her to come closer. “Donna, come here.”
Donna obediently walked over, calling him “Mr. Handsome.”
Fixing his gaze on Lara, Alpha Kilian repeated, “You bumped into her just now!”
Feeling the awkwardness of the situation, Lara said, “I didn’t do it on purpose. I was just too worried about you. I didn’t notice that she was there…”
“Apologize,” Alpha Kilian ordered, his unwavering gaze piercing into her.
Taken aback, Lara didn’t expect Alpha Kilian to be so inconsiderate of her feelings.
How dare he ask me to apologize to a child in front of everyone?
“Alpha Kilian…” Lara uttered in disbelief.
The atmosphere immediately grew tense.
But Alpha Kilian stood firm, refusing to let her off the hook until she apologized.
It was then that Caroline intervened, trying to diffuse the tension. “Lara, you should apologize to the girl. As adults, we should set a good example for the little ones.”
Her words managed to ease the tension and relieve Lara’s awkwardness.
Reluctantly, Lara knew she had no choice given the circumstances.
Forcing a smile, she turned to Donna and apologized, “Donna, I didn’t mean to knock into you. I’m sorry.”
“It’s okay,” Donna replied, her brows furrowed, resembling Nelly’s expression.
Anger simmered within Lara as she looked at Donna.
She had never felt so humiliated in her life.
Meanwhile, Caroline attempted to diffuse the situation further. “We came over to see Alpha Kilian after hearing about his injury. We didn’t expect so many people to be here.”
Turning to Ben and Donna, she asked, “Whose children are these? They’re adorable.”
Though Caroline claimed they were there for Alpha Kilian, Nelly knew they were there to gather information.
But before Nelly could respond, Alpha Kilian took charge. “They are my children.”
Caroline froze upon hearing his words.
“And my grandchildren,” Alpha King Larry chimed in. “Do you know how dearly I cherish them? My heart ached when Lara bumped into Donna.”
Though his words seemed exaggerated, they held a twinge of truth. His granddaughter being pushed aside pained him deeply.
Caroline was speechless, her expression stiffening.
She had suspected it, but hearing Alpha Kilian admit it was a different feeling altogether.
Lara looked at Alpha Kilian in disbelief and asked, “Are they really your kids?”
A smile formed on Alpha Kilian’s lips as he said, “Do they not resemble me? There’s actually one more.”
Lara’s heart turned cold at the sight of his broad smile.
Alpha Kilian didn’t care about her feelings at all. His words shattered any hope she had left.
Her fists clenched tightly as she stared at him.
“Alpha Kilian…” she uttered, desperately searching his eyes for a glimmer of hope.
But there was none.
Suddenly, a sneer crossed Lara’s face.
She finally realized her own delusion, how she had made a fool of herself.
As she rose to leave, she noticed Nelly standing nearby.
Narrowing her eyes, filled with hatred, Lara whispered, “Nelly, you may have won this time, but don’t be too proud. Alpha Kilian doesn’t love you. He only loves his children, and you just happen to be their mother!”
Nelly remained composed, responding with a polite smile.
Softly, she replied, “Whether he loves me or not doesn’t matter. What’s important is that you’ve lost.”
Lara gritted her teeth and glared at Nelly.
But Nelly maintained her smile, refusing to engage in such childish behavior.
Seeing the defeat on Lara’s face brought her joy.
Finally, Alpha Kilian did something right.
Witnessing Nelly’s smug smile, Lara narrowed her eyes. “If I can’t have him, no one else can!”
With those final words, she stormed out of the room.
Caroline called after her daughter, but Lara headed for the door without looking back.
An awkward nod was Caroline’s only response to Alpha King Larry before hurriedly following after Lara.
Outside, Caroline quickly caught up to her daughter.
“Lara, you’re acting impulsively again!” Caroline scolded. “Do you remember what I told you before we came?”
Lara walked on, her gaze fixed ahead, her expression colder and more determined than ever.
