Cedric took out his handkerchief, wanting to dry her tears. As Mala kept avoiding his touch, he decided to pull her into his embrace and restrained her movements.

you keep squirming, | can’t promise that | won’t do anything more to you,” he whispered into her ear.

“You asshole!”

“You're making it very hard for me to restrain myself.

Maia immediately stopped moving. She could still remember how he had treated her the last time they were in the car together. Maia started to cry again as she felt a sense of helplessness.

She started yelling, “Why does everyone keep trying to take advantage of me? Do you all enjoy. it?”

Cedric felt his fingers burn as her tears touched them. He hugged her tighter as he repeated, ” Never again. No one will ever be able to take advantage of you.*.

Cedric continued to calm her down gently. His usual cold and demanding character had disappeared without a trace.

“What am | to you? Why should Hope be given a family when my mother isn’t here anymore? My father had never loved me either. | have nothing... What did we do to deserve this? What did | do to deserve this?”

The tough exterior that she had tried so hard to build crumbled into pieces as she cried her heart out.

“You still have me.” Cedric whispered as he tightened his embrace. Seeing her like this made his heart break into a thousand pieces.

Maia smiled mockingly as she shook her head, “I don’t want you! | don’t need you anymore!”

Cedric could feel his heartache worsen as he heard her rant. An atmosphere of gloom grew inside the car. All that could be heard was just the pitter—patter of the rain outside.

After a while, Maia felt light-headed from all the crying. She was exhausted and slowly sobbing subsided. her

Not long after, Cedric noticed that something was not right as he called out to her. However,

He cursed as he held the unconscious Mala in his arms Cedric took out his cell phone and contacted Dr. Moore, asking him to be at his villa in to minutes.

After he hung up, he told the driver to drive as carefully as possible. He did not want her to feel worse from the car hurtling down the streets.

Cedric noticed that Maia was still shivering as she mumbled faintly that she was feeling cold. He hugged her tighter to warm her up with his body heat.

When they got to Prismara Hill, Cedric carried her out of the car.

Oswald came running towards them with an umbrella, “Mr. Cedric, let the staff do it. Your injury hasn’t fully recovered yet.” “Is Dr. Moore here?”

“He’s waiting for you in the living room.”

Cedric increased his pace while carrying Maia all the way into the villa.

“Mr. Cedric, what’s wrong with Ms. Maia?” Dr. Moore was surprised when he Maia lying limp

in Cedric's arms.

“She has a fever.”

“Take her upstairs and let me have a look.”

After Cedric placed Maia on the bed, Dr. Moore took out a thermometer and took her temperature. “How is she?” Cedric asked worriedly. He was still in his wet clothes, not willing to leave the unconscious Maia on her own.

“She just has a fever and a cold. It’s nothing too serious. It was probably because of the rain, and stress from overworking made her more susceptible. As long as she gets enough rest, she'll be able to recover in no time. Ms. Maia hasn't changed at all.”

Dr. Moore shook his head and sighed. “What do you mean by that?”

“She was always sick. Once, | received a call from the housekeeper. By the time | got here she was asleep on the couch. One of the housekeepers told me that she had stayed up waiting all night.”

“Well, it was probably because you were supposed to get home that night. No one told her that your flight was delayed, so she just kept staying up to wait for you.” Dr. Moore shrugged as he gave Maia a jab for her fever.

Cedric’s heart skipped a beat as he looked at her pale face. He felt sorry for her sake

After making sure that Maia was okay, Oswald sent Dr. Moore away

Maia and Cedric were the only ones left in the bedroom.

“Why are you so silly sometimes?” Cedric could not help but ask as he looked at her with sadness.

Seconds later, he was trying to undress her to take her out of her wet clothes. He had never been prouder of his self—restraint as he dressed her in clean, dry clothing.

Her accessories were kept untouched. He did not allow anyone to remove them.

After changing her clothes, he took out the hair dryer and dried her hair. As he was tucking her in bed, Maia mumbled, “I can’t doze off, the northern lights will appear anytime soon.”

Cedric turned to her with a frown. “Silly girl. We'll be able to see them together one day. I'll forever be by your side,” he whispered and kissed her lightly on the forehead.

Maybe it was due to Cedric’s promise that Maia’s frown started to ease as she drifted into a deep slumber.

Minutes later, Oswald entered the bedroom quietly. When he noticed that Cedric was just sitting at the edge of the bed, looking at Maia, Oswald reminded him to get changed.

“Mr. Cedric, you're still in your wet clothes. Hurry and get changed now. Dr. Moore is still here. I'll get him to dress your wound before he leaves. You need to make sure that you're healthy in order to take care of Ms. Maia, right?”

Oswald knew that nothing was more important to Cedric than Maia. So, to get Cedric to cooperate, he would just have to use her name as leverage.

Cedric took one last look at Maia before agreeing to Oswald’s request. Oswald heaved a sigh of relief at his obedience. “I'll inform Dr. Moore to wait in the living room.”

Cedric nodded after Oswald as he left.
