Chapter 61 Back In the Day

He set his phone aside and lay down beside Cordelia, holding her close. “Is Eva’s treatment ready to

start tomorrow?”

Cordelia asked, “Why? Is Miss Lewis finally ready?”

Although they had initially negotiated successfully, Eva had been dragging her feet, claiming she

needed time to prepare. So, her treatment had been delayed until now.

These past couple of days, she had apparently grown tired of Elijah’s cold shoulder and had become

more proactive after hearing her strategist’s advice.

Elijah responded with resignation, “Eva’s parents passed away when she was young. She grew up with

her brother, who doted on her and never let her suffer.”

Cordelia probed, “And what about her brother?”

Cordelia had already had Adam look into Eva’s background.

Elijah explained, “He’s deceased. He sacrificed himself to save

me.”

Cordelia fell silent.

She felt Elijah’s grip on her tighten as if he wanted to hold onto something desperately.

Once, he and Eva’s brother, Tristan Lewis, had teetered on the brink of life and death together.

been incredibly painful.

So she changed the subject, saying, “Miss Lewis’s treatment process will likely be very difficult for her,

and it’s going to be a long one. I hope you’ll be able to keep her going. If she backs out halfway, the

agreed-upon terms won’t change.”

She remained calm, like a profit-driven businesswoman, instantly pulling Elijah out of his sadness.

He kissed Cordelia’s lips and said, “I know.”

The next day, Cordelia arrived at the coffee shop as planned, and Jacob was already waiting by the

table.

Since they had only met the day before, they didn’t engage in much small talk and got straight to the

point.

Jacob took out his phone and handed it to Cordelia. “Here, take a look.”

Cordelia glanced at the phone and saw a recent video from Imogen’s social media account.

She looked up and asked in col usion,

“Is this you, Cordelia?” Jacob asked confidently.

Cordelia denied, “No.”

“I’ve already asked Imogen,” Jacob chuckled.

Cordelia was momentarily stunned, then inwardly cursed Imogen for selling her out so quickly.

“Don’t worry, Cordelia. As of now, only I know about this. Elijah and Ben are all in the dark,” Jacob

explained.

“Okay, so what do you want?” Cordelia asked curiously.

“My grandmother is about to turn eighty, and I want you to play a violin piece for her. It’ll be an intimate

gathering with only family members present, so your identity won’t be revealed,” Jacob said while

bowing to her.

Cordelia hastily waved her hand. “No, please. I can’t.”

“Maura Flint is your grandmother, right?” Jacob suddenly

asked.

Cordelia was momentarily stunned, unable to react for a while.

“My grandmother used to know your grandmother, and they once collaborated on composing music.

“Now, she can’t play anymore, so I want to give her this special

birthday gift. As for your payment, I’ll make sure you’re well compensated,” Jacob said, pulling out the

sheet music and persuading Cordelia with all his might.

Knowing the connection between their two grandmothers, Cordelia reluctantly agreed.

After Jacob left, Cordelia sat in the coffee shop, still looking at

the sheet music.

From the dancing notes, she could feel that her grandmother must have been confident and full of

youthful vigor back in the day.

“Grandma, I miss you so much…”

Just then, her phone rang, and Elijah’s voice, filled with a hint of amusement, came through.

“Miss Carter, where are you? I’ll come over now to pick you up for Eva’s treatment.”
