Chapter 646
Chapter 646
"So, you asked her to remember what happened back then?" Bernard interrogated.
It was no wonder Hera had been forcing herself to get used to the darkness, even asking him about the case.
It was all because of Xavier's request!
Every single time, Hera would break into a cold sweat and tremble in the darkness. She was even almost triggered into a shock that day! The vulnerable sight of her broke Bernard's heart. Helplessness squeezed his heart, and anger stifled him at the same time.
He would never let anyone hurt her. Not even herself!
"I-I didn't..." Xavier didn't know what kind of method she would use to find out the murderer. All he knew was that she would make it happen because she had given him her word.
Xavier might not have trusted others, but he trusted Hera.
He had done his homework. Although Hera was no longer the soft and sweet Cecily, it was true that she was investigating Daphne's case and was serious about clearing Lucius' name.
They had the same objectives. That was why he shared the clues with her.
"Don't let her get involved in this case again!" Bernard deleted the photos right in front of Xavier.
Xavier wanted to stop the man, but he couldn't do so in time, hence his fury. "What's wrong with that? She's just trying to clear Uncle Lucius' name and find out the truth for me."
"She's not wrong, but the whole Killian family is! I promised Lucius to stop investigating the case. If you want to stay in the Killian residence, don't tempt her to keep digging!"This content © Nôv/elDr(a)m/a.Org.
Xavier's lips quivered, and his whole body was shaking in anger. Years of pretending to be mad had dulled his mind. He struggled to find the words for rebuttal.
Chad had ordered the whole family not to bring up Greg's death. That was why Xavier pretended to be mentally ill to survive in the family and find out the truth.
But why Bernard was stopping him when he had come this far?
Shouldn't Bernard be on Hera's side?
Did Hera know that Bernard didn't want anyone to dig into the case?
If she was aware of it, would that mean Xavier had exposed himself by sharing all his clues with her?
A deep abyss of despair swallowed him.
At that moment, Bernard's phone rang. It was a saved number without a name, and he answered the call.
"Mr. Killian, Ms Youngworth has woken up." It was a female voice.
He terminated the call and warned Xavier, "Don't tell Hera about this." He then turned around and left the room.
"M-Mr. Bernard?" Marriott, who had been constantly knocking on the door outside, suddenly stopped. The chilling air around him caused her to make way for him unconsciously.
It wasn't until he left that she finally gathered herself. Hurriedly, she rushed into the room only to see Xavier sitting on the floor soullessly. She helped him up and checked if he was hurt. "Mr. Xavier, are you okay?"
He had regained his composure and was holding the sheets to hide the phone. Then, he kept shoving himself into the closet, acting like a mentally ill man. "Uncle. Hide-and-seek. Hide-and-seek. I have to hide well. Marriott, go hide..."
Bernard returned to the courtyard house, where the female subordinate had already left.
The lights in the western wing were on. Hera was sitting on the couch in the living room, looking a little distracted. Tiramisu lay on her lap, showing her its belly to pet.
