Chapter 163
Chapter 163
Emmett stared into her eyes, silent for quite a while, then shrugged, “Nah, I don’t want to push you.”
What was he really after?
All he wanted was for Clara to be a normal wife, to share her social life with him, to just chat about her day.
But every time he conversed with Clara, he felt she was deliberately keeping her distance.
He wanted to understand her better, but without resorting to certain measures, he couldn’t get any information out of her.
Was he not a good enough husband? NôvelDrama.Org holds © this.
“Emmett, don’t be mad!” Clara felt stuck between a rock and a hard place, “I can’t control my friend’s thoughts. If she doesn’t want to meet you, I can’t
force her.”
“I get it.” Emmett patted his thigh, “Come sit.”
“Huh?”
Emmett pulled her over and made her sit on his lap.
This made Clara blush.
“You… this isn’t appropriate, is it? We’re in the office.”
“What’s inappropriate? You’re my wife, who dares to comment?”
Clara really wanted to shut him up right then.
“Can you not do this? If people hear, they’ll have more criticisms against me. I’ve already dealt with enough suspicion and misunderstanding in the office, how am I supposed to continue working?”
Emmett smiled and kissed her.
Caught off guard, Clara forgot to resist. By the time she remembered, her face was as red as an apple.
“You…”
“You’re already a mother and you’re still blushing like a little girl!” She was truly adorable.
Clara immediately got up from his lap.
Because she had noticed his… change…
“If there’s nothing else, I… I need to get back to work! I was helping a friend earlier and left a lot of work unfinished.”
Before Emmett could say anything, Clara had already bolted out the door.
All Emmett could do was chuckle helplessly, then he pulled out his phone and made a call.
“Matt, you can stop investigating Clara’s friend from now on.”
“Alright.”
After hanging up, Emmett smiled to himself.
Perhaps he should trust Clara more. Otherwise, when would their marital bond deepen?
Isn’t trust the foundation of a marriage? He should give her more of it.
Clara hurried back to her office, sitting at her desk with a red face.
Her coworker called out to her a few times, but she didn’t respond until she was gently tapped on the shoulder.
“Your design was praised by the boss! I just saw it, really good.” Her coworker laughed, “Could you teach me? I always feel like I’m out of ideas. I think I should retire.”
“You’re too kind! I just looked at a lot of examples, no special tricks.”
“Well that’s talent!” Her coworker waved her off and was called away by someone else.
Clara sat in her chair, lightly slapping her cheek to try and wake herself up.
In the hotel, Leah woke up to an empty room, feeling annoyed.
She stood up, tore off all the bandages on her arm and threw them away!
Walking out to the balcony, Leah dialed Elio’s number.
Only when the breeze brushed past her face could she feel her breathing smooth again.
