Twisted Ties of Love

Chapter 288

Chapter 288

Izabella's legs were injured, but there was nothing wrong with her ears. She had good hearing, and could tell that it was Kaley calling Brett, but wasn't able to catch exactly what they were talking about.

Izabella didn't react, and Brett wasn't discouraged. He had already grown used to her cold attitude over the past few weeks. Even though it didn't feel great, he thought it was a lot better than how she constantly wanted to die before. Contentt bel0ngs to N0ve/lDrâ/ma.O(r)g!

After Brett left, Tiara took over the wheelchair and continued to push Izabella. Then a nurse came straight up to Izabella.

"Ms. Salotti, someone asked me to deliver a message to you."

Izabella didn't react, but Tiara was stunned. Her past experience told her that it was best to act like she hadn't seen or heard anything.

Izabella patted Tiara's hand, then spoke for the first time in days, her voice barely audible, "Tiara, stand back a bit. I want to talk to her."

Tiara hesitated, "But…"

"Don't worry, nothing will happen. Just stand a little further and watch me."

"Alright." Tiara let go of the wheelchair and walked about twenty or thirty steps away, stopping at a distance of about ten meters.

The nurse leaned in close to Izabella and whispered a few words. Izabella's eyelashes quivered as she clenched her hands on her lap.

When the nurse finished, Izabella immediately said, "I choose 2. And, deliver a message back to him for me…"

The nurse seemed surprised, but she simply nodded and walked away without arousing any suspicion.

In the afternoon, Brett sent his driver to pick up Izabella from the hospital.

Brett instructed the housekeeper to prepare a room on the first floor for Izabella to stay in.

When Izabella returned to the villa, she went straight into the room, which was identical to the one she stayed in on the second floor.

That evening, Brett brought desserts for Izabella, as she loved sweets. He brought her a slice of cake. He took the cake to her bedroom, opened it, and brought it closer to her mouth, "Want some? I got someone to wait in line for this today. I heard it tastes great."

Izabella just stared silently out of the window, not reacting until the cake touched her lips, when she mechanically ate it.

Her stiff movement resembled a broken, rusty machine – even eating a piece of cake seemed to be an arduous task and her mouth ended up full.

"Is it good?" Brett wasn't a fan of sweets, but watching Izabella eat, he started to get an appetite too. Noticing the cream on her lips, he leaned in and kissed it away, tasting the cake in the process.

So sweet…

Izabella didn't say a word, just ate however much cake Brett fed her. Eventually, she choked and started to retch, hunching over in the wheelchair.

Brett hurried to bring her water and tissues, eventually fetching a trash can. It took some time to clean up the mess.

Vomiting wasn't a pleasant experience. Izabella drank water, her mouth opening and closing involuntarily, water dribbling down her chin and soaking her collar.

Brett wiped her face and neck with a towel, apologizing, "I'm sorry, I didn't take good care of you."

He stroked her long hair, "Within three months, your condition should improve. Izabella, if you think you're in hell, then I'll accompany you through it. Once we're used to it, it won't feel like hell anymore."

"Don't believe things you hear in the next three months, no matter what happens," Brett said, as he helped Izabella into bed.

Three days were left until Brett's engagement. He got busier by the day, returning home late at night and barely seeing anyone all day long.

His cast was off now, but he still felt occasional prickling pain in his left palm, like being stabbed with a needle.

He found a scarf he had learned to knit last winter in the hospital and gave it to Izabella, "I knitted this scarf for you last winter. You woke up when it was warming up, so I didn't have a chance to give it to you."

She didn't respond, and he appeared to be talking to himself like a nagging grandma.

Brett sighed as another call took him away. As usual, he instructed everyone to take good care of Izabella, and asked Tiara to chat more with her and try to cheer her up.

In reality, Tiara tried her best every day to console Izabella. Tiara was unaware of the details of her car accident, only that her legs were now permanently disabled and couldn't be fixed.

Weren't they perfectly fine just a few days ago, she even made soup for Brett. How could they suddenly have such a serious accident?

Tiara was currently knitting a sweater for her daughter in her favorite light yellow color. Niki looked on curiously, reaching out to grab the sweater and play with the yarn ball, causing a tangled mess of light yellow thread.

Niki was playful, fearless and persistent. It especially loved playing with Izabella. However, lately Izabella wasn't in the mood.

Tiara looked at the knotted yarn, sighing helplessly as she patted Niki's head, "You… how can you be so mischievous?"

Tiara tidied up the yarn, placing it somewhere Niki couldn't reach. She then gave Izabella a leg massage, "Living in this world, we should be happy, Izabella. Since we have to live every day anyway, why not stay happy and carefree? Staying depressed will only make your condition worse."

Izabella watched Niki roll around happily on the carpet, then finally spoke, "So, how do I become happy?"

Tiara's nose felt sour as she held back tears, lowering her head so Izabella wouldn't notice the sadness in her eyes. She was supposed to comfort Izabella, but the roles seemed to have reversed.

Izabella took off the scarf Brett had tied around her neck and threw it on the ground, saying, "A broken rope, no matter how you tie it, will always have a knot."

The room fell silent for a moment.

Tiara, trying to divert attention, grabbed the remote and turned on the TV. Coincidentally, the first thing that came on was a news segment about Kaley and Brett's upcoming engagement.

It was already too late for Tiara to turn off the TV. In fact, everyone knew that Brett was going to get engaged to another woman, except for Izabella.

"Um, Izabella..." Tiara hesitated, wanting to explain, but not knowing how to begin. After all, the truth was right in front of them - should she still comfort Izabella and tell her not to be sad?

What was once a legitimate wife has now suddenly become the mistress.

"Is their engagement party the day after tomorrow?"

Tiara didn't answer.

Izabella smirked, showing a smile for the first time in days, and said softly, "An engagement, huh? Then let me prepare a gift for him that he'll never forget."
