destroying my life
Letta then chose to entrust Freya to Rose because even after evening, they still couldn’t finish their current grape harvest. This made Letta rush back to approach Marco.
“Are you not tired?” Letta asked, looking at Marco’s sweaty face. Marco responded to Letta’s gaze, now starting to pick grapes again.
“Actually, I should be asking that. Aren’t you tired? You should just go home with Freya, and I can finish it. Besides, there’s just a little left,” Marco said, causing Letta to shake her head.
“I can’t let you harvest the grapes alone. You might not finish until night. So, we can do it together. It will be better that way,” Letta said, making Marco finally agree. They then accelerated their movements because the sun had started to set, and it needed to be done quickly to store it in the warehouse.
It took about 2 hours, but they finally managed to finish it. Marco immediately carried the grapes into the warehouse, while Letta tidied up the equipment they used. Letta then approached Marco, who was now taking off the gloves he had been wearing.
“Come home, clean yourself up,” Letta said, making Marco stop in his tracks, before finally following the steps of the woman he longed for. How the small back was forced to remain upright and strong made Marco feel even further from Letta and difficult for him to reach her. Letta and Marco then entered and saw Freya eating snacks with Rose.
“Is the grape harvest done?” Rose asked, making Letta nod.
“Sorry for making you suddenly accompany Freya,” Letta said, making Rose shake her head.
“It’s okay. Besides, I was free anyway. You should have asked me to play with Freya from the beginning, so Freya wouldn’t have to be out in the heat in the garden,” Rose said, making Letta smile. Rose then glanced briefly at Marco behind Letta before giving a faint smile. Rose then got up from her seat.
“That’s it. I have to go home soon because John will probably be home soon too. We’ll play again tomorrow, okay, Freya?” Rose said, making Freya nod.
“Thank you. You’ve made yourself busy again,” Letta said, making Rose just smile before saying goodbye to go home. Letta immediately looked at Marco.
“Clean yourself up first in the bathroom, Freya,” Letta said, making Marco nod. However, before Marco went to the bathroom, he approached Freya, who was watching TV on the sofa.
“What snacks are you eating?” Marco asked, bending his knees, making Freya look at the small bowl in front of her.
“Biscuits, Uncle want some?” Freya asked, making Marco nod. Freya immediately took one of the doll-shaped biscuits and then reached out her hand.
“Unfortunately, my hands are dirty. Can you just put it in my mouth?” Marco asked again, making Freya nod before starting to feed Marco. Letta saw this, always feeling that the closeness between them was easily established. Perhaps because their emotional bond made them not even slightly awkward. Letta then chose to clean herself, ignoring the scene that was actually very enjoyable for her to see. Letta walked, taking off her dirty clothes one by one, putting them in the laundry basket, before finally entering the bathroom. Letta doused her body with cold water, trying to cool her mind. It reminded Letta of a few moments ago when they took shelter from the scorching sun. Letta didn’t know what came over her at that time.
A few hours earlier.
Letta stroked Freya’s hair as she slept in her lap, causing Marco to look at Letta and Freya alternately.
“Freya complained to me,” Marco said, making Letta look at the man who could still be called her husband, or not.
“What did she complain to you about?”
“She complained that she’s not as beautiful as you because she doesn’t have the same face as you,” Marco said, making Letta nod.
“She has often complained like that, and it’s normal,” Letta replied, making Marco look at Letta, who was now looking at their little daughter.
“Has it been very difficult for the past 2 years?” Marco asked, looking at Letta’s very small palms. Surely, with those small hands, Letta struggled with all her might to provide for their lives.
“It was difficult at first, especially when I was pregnant with Freya, but there was always a way out. There were also good people around me, so many people helped and worried about me,” Letta replied without looking at Marco, who was still staring intently at her.
“How could you even think of leaving me when you were pregnant?” Marco said, making Letta remember how she felt excruciating pain when all her memories returned.
“Because for me, if I stayed, I would just continue to hate you, and I didn’t want to do that. At least, if I left you, I felt like I could repay all that pain without having to see it directly,” Letta said, as they would surely feel the pain that Marco felt if she were to hurt him directly.
“Yes, and you succeeded in destroying my life. But for me, it’s truly a fair retribution for what I did to you. I still can’t forgive myself, let alone you,” Marco said, making Letta finally respond to his melancholic gaze. Of course, Letta now knew that the look Marco gave was sincere, his words were sincere, and in his heart, he regretted all the things he had done to her.
“How is Arabella doing?” Letta asked, trying to change their conversation topic, making Marco remember that Letta’s departure was related to her former fiancee.
“She’s doing fine. In fact, she’s soon going to marry a prince from the land of fairy tales,” Marco said, making Letta look at him with a furrowed brow, causing Marco to laugh cheerfully.
“I mean, she has found the fiance she has always dreamed of. Isn’t it that a woman always dreams of a prince? Yes, right now, that’s the expression I can use for Arabella’s situation,” Marco said, making Letta nod. They fell silent for a moment, until Marco looked sharply at Letta again.
“I was angry with her for a while and even held a grudge against her,” Marco said, making Letta look at him with raised eyebrows.
“Why?” Letta asked.
“Of course, because she was involved and helped you meet Abian, and allowed you to leave,” Marco said, making Letta shake her head.
“Arabella didn’t know when I left, I left with Abian,” Letta said, making Marco nod.
“Yes, I had figured it out. Even when I wanted to go to meet you, I intended to get rid of that man, but it turned out he had already helped you and accompanied you while you were here. So, I think that redeemed his mistake because he helped you leave me,” Marco said, making Letta fall silent. All text © NôvelD(r)a'ma.Org.
“Yes, Abian has done a lot of good for us. He has given up all the life he could have had just to stay in this small town,” Letta said, always making Marco want to ask this question.
“Then why don’t you accept him back into your life? Because I’m sure and it’s very clear that he still hopes he can return to you,” Marco said, making Letta fall silent. However, it seemed that Letta had no intention of answering Marco’s words at all. Letta finally chose to slowly lift Freya’s head to rest on the pillow she had prepared earlier.
“She’s rested enough. I’ll go back to pick the grapes,” Letta said, getting up from her seat. Before Letta could take a step, Marco grabbed her arm, making Letta turn back.
“You haven’t answered my question,” Marco said, making Letta brush him off.
“There’s nothing for me to answer, especially such a personal question,” Letta said, making Marco shake his head.
“But I still need to know,” Marco said again.
“No, you don’t need to know. It’s about my life, so I don’t have to answer if I don’t want to,” Letta said again, making Letta turn around. But once again, Marco pulled her quite strongly, causing Letta to fall into Marco’s embrace. Even now, Marco enclosed her among the lush trees that provided shade and his sturdy body.
“Freya could wake up, so don’t do anything inappropriate,” Letta said, glancing at Freya, who was still sleeping soundly.
“What kind of inappropriate thing do you think I would do?” Marco said, making Letta remember when they did something that hadn’t made her heart race in a long time, when they were at the windmill with a fireworks display. Letta could only turn her face away, not wanting Marco to see her flushed face, but it seemed too late when Marco smiled.
“Do you remember that night?” Marco asked again, making Letta look at those sharp eyes that now gazed at her with a faint smile.
“No, just forget it. It’s better if we get back to work now,” Letta said, but Marco only drew closer. Even now, Letta could feel the warm breath of Marco against her face.
“I already said if…” Even before Letta could finish her threat, Marco suddenly kissed the corner of her lips, making her whole body tremble violently. Letta didn’t know why Marco always behaved so recklessly like this. Was he not afraid that she would get angry again? At that moment, Letta pushed Marco away, who was smiling satisfied, as if he had succeeded in teasing her again.
