In the Bradshaws’ villa, Esther looked at Gilbert with conflicting emotions. Her son was brilliant. Although she hadn’t given him much authority, some board members had already suggested training him to be the successor.

She used to worry about convincing them to accept him, but she seemed to have worried for nothing.

But for whatever reason, the more brilliant he was, the less bold she was. She couldn’t help feeling troubled.

“How are things between you and Lottie lately?” Esther asked.

‘ Pretty good/ he answered. In truth, he hated her. However, he hadn’t expressed it. Lottie didn’t sense it, and Esther naturally wouldn’t, either.

Esther nodded in satisfaction. The Silveras were like the Bradshaws. They were considered to be of the same social standing. On top of that, Lottie seemed nice, which was why Esther had chosen her.

However, she still felt worried.

“Why is the news about you and Lottie deleted? Was that your doing?” Esther’s gaze sharpened. She stared at Gilbert as if wanting to pierce through him.

Gilbert looked right back at her. Although he knew that she was suspicious of him, he did not show his fear. “It was/

“Why would you do that?” Esther was taken aback by his straightforward admission. She thought that he would deny it. If he did, she would have suspected that he had other motives. But now, he was admitting to it.

“The Bradshaws have always been on the down low. I don’t think news like marriage should be leaked to the masses. I’ve discussed this with Lottie, and she thinks the same way.” Gilbert had prepared his answer. He wasn’t afraid of Esther asking him about it.

Indeed, Esther didn’t think too much of it. “Very impressive of you to consider that. The Bradshaws have survived for so long because of how reserved we are.”

That was why she looked down on the Ten Elites. She thought they were fools, airing out all their dirty laundry, inviting scrutiny and attention. It was not beneficial toward growth.

“If you and Lottie find each other compatible, we will confirm the wedding,” Esther said.

Gilbert was about to say he was in no rush, but Esther then said, “The company happens to have a vice president position available for the taking. It would be good for you after your engagement.”

In other words, she would only let him be the vice president if he was engaged. He could forget about everything else if he wasn’t engaged.

Gilbert definitely did not want to be engaged to Lottie. He contacted her only to get rid of Esther’s suspicions about him. But things were moving too slowly. He had to get close to their core.

The engagement seemed inevitable.

No matter. It was only an engagement.

Once he was the vice president, he would have the authority to interfere with most of the operations. Once that happened, it would be the end for the Bradshaws.

Esther knew nothing of his schemes. When she saw that he still had yet to respond, her face turned sour. “You don’t want to? Are you still thinking about that woman?”

“No. I just think things are moving too quickly,” Gilbert said expressionlessly.

Esther looked at him in suspicion. “Really? It’s still alright. Back then, your father and I married after just a few days of knowing each other. We were much faster than you are.”

“Whatever you say,” Gilbert said. He didn’t want to raise Esther’s suspicions over this.

He had to endure it.

He was very close to victory. He wouldn’t want to give up now.

Esther smiled at once. “Very well. I will contact the Silveras and get the engagement confirmed.”

“Alright.” Gilbert nodded nonchalantly.
