The Bradshaws quickly recognized Gilbert’s abilities. Esther was planning on observing him a little more, but it seemed redundant now. She got Gilbert into her office and said, “Everyone in this company has acknowledged your skills. Hence, I shall try and let you be in charge of this project.”

Gilbert was expressionless and didn’t react much. It was as if everything was within his expectations.

“However, if you want to take over the Bradshaws, your wife cannot be a nobody. She has to match your status, at least.” Esther looked at him. As expected, his face turned sour at the mention of it. She wasn’t surprised and went on, “You needn’t answer me at once. You can think about it on your own. But I hope that you will make the right decision.”

In the end, if Gilbert didn’t shake Marigold off, Esther would not entrust the Bradshaws to him. If he didn’t get rid of her, that would mean he wasn’t standing on the Bradshaws’ side. Even if he was capable, she would not dare to trust him.

Gilbert walked out of Esther’s office. He had to act fast against the Bradshaws. He would never part with Marigold despite them having never been together.

He left the company and went back to his villa.

Once out of the car, his face turned grim. Right before he came into the villa, he saw a few unfamiliar faces. They were definitely not his neighbors. They looked shifty and suspicious. He could tell at a glance that they were plotting something.

Gilbert had been in Bradshaw Operations recently. Hence, they were not here for him. They probably came for Marigold, but she couldn’t have wronged anyone recently. If that was the case, that meant that it was Gilbert who was causing her this trouble.

He called for someone to dispose of these people and to research the mastermind behind them.

It was as he expected. It was the Bradshaws.

Gilbert felt frustrated. He regretted agreeing to return to the Bradshaws. Based on the current situation, the Bradshaws would make a move if he didn’t split up with Marigold. His plan to go against the Bradshaws had yet to take form, and after learning about them these few days, he knew clearly of the Bradshaws’ properties.

It was indeed as Esther had said. They were comparable to the Walters. If Gilbert still went against them doggedly, he would be defeated. But if this went on, the Bradshaws would definitely send someone over to get rid of Marigold.

He could chase them off now, but what if there was a next time? Gilbert began to feel afraid.

“Back already?” Marigold came downstairs when she heard his car driving in. “What’s wrong? You look upset.”

He didn’t just look upset. He looked extremely troubled.

When he saw her, Gilbert softened his expression. “I’m fine.” Then, he went upstairs and into his bedroom.

Marigold was confused. Fine? He obviously wasn’t. In fact, it looked serious, but she couldn’t be of any help.

She couldn’t help feeling exasperated.

In his room, Gilbert held his phone in his hands. He’d just texted Esther, agreeing to split up with Marigold and meet up with the woman they had prepared for him. He thought that as long as he was

fast enough, he might be able to team up with Alec to destroy the Bradshaws when Esther’s guard was down.

He’d only dared to agree to her request because of that thought.
