Chapter 1141 What Have I Done Wrong?
They came quickly. As Jenny had suspected, Max was next to Jade when she called. Hence, he came, too.
“It’s been a while since we’ve met, Jenny.” Max was still the charming man he was. However, he looked easier on the eyes. It could be a psychological thing.
Jenny couldn’t help teasing him. “Yeah. I remember that you even wanted to pursue me before. What a pity you gave up in the end.”
Max was speechless. He snuck a glance at Jade and coughed dryly. “I was just playing you. You’re not even my type.”
“Oh really? You seemed pretty serious about it at the time. Aren’t I right, Alec?” Jenny looked at Alec, who had long been by her side.
Alec nodded solemnly. “I was afraid that you’d actually end up with her.”
Max wanted to cry. “What have I done wrong? Why are you torturing me?”
Jade was right there. How could they say things like that? Furthermore, he hadn’t wanted to pursue Jenny back then. He just wanted to make Alec angry.
“I’m just telling the truth.” Jenny smiled.
Max was exasperated. He leaned toward Jade and explained, “Don’t listen to her nonsense. I don’t even like her.” Jade said nothing, and he couldn’t bear it anymore. “It’s true. I was just trying to make Alec angry.”
“Oh, so now you’re saying I’m lying?” Jenny was upset. “How are you going to compensate me for that, Max?”
“What is there to compensate? I might have been playing you, but I never hurt you. In fact, I helped you out quite a few times,” Max said.
Jenny thought about it, and it was true. “Well, you were still pretty despicable back then.”
“What do you want me to do, missy?” Max was surrendering. He didn’t want to argue with Jenny any longer.
Jenny couldn’t help laughing. “I just won’t get you a gift. In fact, you’ll have to get me one when the time comes. After all, I’ll have to call you my brother-in-law in the future.”
Jade was like a sister to Jenny. Hence, Max would be her brother-in-law.
Max was stunned. He didn’t expect it to be settled so quickly. “That’s no biggie. I’ll get you a gift.”
The teasing was over. The waiter brought them the menus, and they ordered their food.
Afterward, Jade said, “Jenny, you know about Max and me getting married, don’t you?”
“Yes, I just learned about it. You’re so shameless, Jade. You didn’t even tell me sooner.” Jenny pretended to be upset, but she was actually very happy for Jade.
The fact that she was willing to marry Max meant that she had truly moved on. All of her hurt would not be able to affect her now. © 2024 Nôv/el/Dram/a.Org.
Jade felt embarrassed. “I wanted to tell you in person. It didn’t feel sincere saying it over the phone.”
Jenny didn’t want to press the matter further. “When is the wedding?” she asked.
“In one week,” Jade said.
“That quickly?” Jenny wasn’t expecting it to be this early.
Before Jade could speak, Max said, “We got a fortune teller to pick a date, and that was the best time for us to marry.”
There was no doubt that they’d want to have a happy marriage.
