The True Heiress's Return

Chapter 143

Matthew took a small bite of the vermicelli rolls before him. He held a brand-new flagship phone from a popular brand that everyone was eager to get.

It seemed like it had been ages since he last used a smartphone. Squinting, he poked and swiped at the screen with furrowed. brows, trying hard to figure it out. Eventually, losing patience, he slammed it onto the table. Shakira glanced over and felt relieved that it was designed to be durable. Or, it wouldn't withstand his temper. It was then that Matthew noticed someone was sitting next to him. His angry expression softened for a moment, but his face darkened again when he remembered something. He turned away with a buff. Shakira almost burst out laughing. Just then, the phone on the table started buzzing with notifications again, making Matthew even more frustrated. Shakira suggested in a soothing, almost child-like tone, "How about I set your phone to Do Not Disturb for you?" Matthew glanced over but didn't say anything. He was just being proud. Shakira slightly curled her lips. She took his phone, to expertly unlock it, adjusted the settings, and also enlarged the font size. Seeing her thoughtful little gesture, Matthew's eyes softened slightly. When Shakira looked ooked over, he had resumed his stoic demeanor. Knowing that Matthew wasn't easy to please, she went to the stall owner, scanned the QR code, washed her hands, entered the small kitchen, and came out soon with a plate of translucent vermicelli rolls and handed it it to Matthew. With a cheery smile, Shakira said, "I added your favorite diced radish especially. Want to try?" The vermicelli rolls drizzled with Shakira's special sauce released a tempting aroma, making Matthew instinctively swallow. He planned to resist a bit longer, but Shakira casually added, "They taste best when hot." Matthew gulped, picked up a spoon, and took a big bite. Matthew didn't mind the sauce on his mouth corner and soon finished the plate of vermicelli rolls, leaving nothing behind. He leaned against the wall, licking his lips with satisfaction. Meeting Shakira's clear, smiling eyes, he stubbornly said. "You can't get rid of me with a plate of of vermicelli rolls." Shakira's eyes sparkled as she seemed to talk to herself, counting on her fingers. "It has been a while since I made steak, roasted turkey, or pork sandwiches."

Matthew was flustered, blowing his beard, and glared.

"You troublesome girl. You didn't contact me for a long time. You contact me only when you want me to treat somebody's illness. I rushed over to hear you talking about dishes that my friends like. I'll go if you make me angry. You won't have a mentor then." Shakira almost burst out laughing, her eyes wide with mock innocence. "Master, you're accusing me wrongly. I haven't finished yet. Sure, I'm planning to make your favorites like pizza and oatmeal."

Matthew, a pro at handling delicious food, retorted. "Hmph, thats more like it. He couldn't resist tapping Shakira on the nose, lifting his hand heavily but softening the gesture as it came down.

"You insisted on going back with the Nelson family back then, dil you realize you were making a mistake?" asked Matthew. His words caught in Shakira's throat. In her previous life, after returning to the Nelson residence, she didn't dare to reach out to them, fearing they would be angry or sad for her. In the end, she couldn't even see them one last time.

They pulled her back from her darkest moments, teaching her skills and giving her a chance to start over. It was her fault for being so obsessed with family ties, wasting their efforts and care She didn't even get the clunce to repay them and became a stepping stone for Yvette's destiny without realizing it

Shakira took a deep breath. Matthew, I've left the Nelson residence and completely cut ties with them."

Matthew wore a calm expression, not surprised at all. Shakira raised an eyebrow, "You knew, didn't you?"

Matthew snorted. "After all the mess the Nelsons put you through, if you hadn't cut ties, I would have come back to knock some sense into you myself.

He paused as if waiting for Shakira to come clean. "What's going on with you and that guy from the Lopez family who hurt his legs! Are you two a thing?"

Shakira's mouth twitched slightly as she explained, "I owed him a favor and promised to help heal his legs. As my skills aren't good enough, I could only ask you to step in."

Matthew chuckled. "What kind of big favor is worth so much effort from you, girl? Is it love?"

Shakira kept silent. She thought, 'He is back to that topic again and is really into gossip.

Before she could explain further, a familiar female voice full of complaints entered the store. Fiona, wearing a white tracksuit, was much more low-key compared to her usual glamorous outfits. But her face still showed her blatant arrogance.

She had a Bluetooth earpiece hanging from her ear, glaring as she yelled at the person over the call, "Is your info reliable? I've been up since dawn, searching this grimy food street where cockroaches and rats roam. Can a big shot like Matthew come to such a dingy

"I don't care. I've already paid you, so you must find a way to let me meet Matthew. The voice on the other end of the call came through.

She angrily hung up and looked up, only to see Shakira sitting in the corner. Fiona was momentarily stunned, suddenly understood something, and laughed sarcastically.

"Shakira, you've got quite a nerve? You can't treat Walter as you bragged, and try to ask Matthew for help to make yourself look good?" Fiona sneered arrogantly. "Can you gain help from Matthew? Do you believe you can hog all the benefits in the world?" Shakira gave a vague smile. "Isn't you whimsical too? Can't even tell a con man apart. You probably wouldn't even recognize him even if he shows up right before you."

Fiona's face turned ashen and then she noticed an old, shabby-looking man beside Shakira. His hat was worn out and pilled and his clothes were baggy and ill-fitting. He didn't dare look her in the eye, acting like a timid pushover,

snickered. "You mean this beggar-like guy is Matthew? Hilarious. Were I you, I'd head back to the Lopez family and pack my bags. Leave now to save your dignity. When I help Walter find Matthew and heal his legs, he would then demand you leave Crescentville." After uttering those harsh words, Fiona's phone rang again. She turned with a confident stride and walked away.

Shakira's brow twitched slightly as she turned to Matthew. Before she could say anything, Matthew slamped his hand on the table. "Where's Walter? Tell him to come quickly. Once I fix his legs, you can go and annoy that rude woman." Shakira was speechless.
