Chapter 1959
Instantly, the taste of bile rose to Justin's throat, rendering him speechless.
"To my knowledge, no medicine can truly cure autism. It can only manage its symptoms. Moreover, overuse can lead to lethargy and mental dullness." Bella shook her head skeptically. "If truly it worked, Carrie's autism would have been cured by now."Contentt bel0ngs to N0ve/lDrâ/ma.O(r)g!
"Ms. Thompson is right, but that was in Savrow."
Grant's expression was gentle and patient as he explained. "In the past two years, a new medication has been developed in Meridan to suppress autism. Though it is still a supplementary treatment, it is still far more effective than our medicine. Additionally, I believe that if Mr. Hoffman spends more time accompanying Carrie and surrounding her with love, her condition will improve significantly. It will be much better than electroshock therapy. Ultimately, autistic patients need to feel loved as much as possible."
Gregory nodded in agreement. "Grant, you raise a lot of good points!"
However, Bella remained impassive. "Mr. Salvador, with all due respect, I am very skeptical of medication, especially foreign ones. This is something you ingest, and any mishap could cause irreversible damage. My father recently suffered a stroke. Conservative treatments could have saved him, but he instead took medication from an untrustworthy person, leading to severe side effects, even incontinence. I do not want the same terrible things to happen to Carrie. I see her as my own sister. I am not willing to take that risk."
"Ms. Thompson, I understand your concern."
Grant kept his gaze gentle. "That is why I will accompany Carrie in taking the medication. Whatever she takes, I will take the same amount. Is that acceptable?"
The other three were left stunned.
"Grant, what are you doing?!"
Gregory immediately objected. "All medicine has side effects. You do not have that kind of illness. How can you volunteer to take that medication? This is absolutely unacceptable!"
Bella was surprised. She had not expected Grant to go so far, risking himself just to ease her concerns.
"I have taken over a thousand kinds of medication over the years, so one more won't make a difference." Grant remained calm. "I understand Ms. Thompson's concerns, especially given what her father has gone through. It's only natural to be extra cautious. It's decided, then. Within three days, I'll have Clarice deliver the medicine. As the oldest brother, I have no other desire but for my sister to be safe and sound."
After their discussion, Grant left the couple to themselves. Clarice arrived, and the two hastily left the hospital.
On the way back to the manor, Grant recounted the events at the hospital to Clarice in a nonchalant tone.
Clarice's heart raced as her voice rose. "Sir! How could you even suggest this? How can you put your body in harm's way like this?!"
"That's enough." Grant silenced her, furrowing his brow.
He recalled Bella's eyes and her steady demeanor. She exuded a unique charm that made men willingly submit to her allure.
In comparison, the meticulous Clarice somewhat resembled a poorly made human doll.
Clarice shrank back, lowering her
head. "I... I'm just worried about your
health. The medication you
mentioned hasn't even passed the final clinical trials at our research institute. While it was proven to be effective, its side effects are still unpredictable. I fear..."
"If I didn't propose this, they wouldn't have accepted my suggestion. But now that I have, my goodwill will be doubled, both with Justin and Ms. Thompson." Grant smiled. "But... It's still too risky."
"Everything requires a certain cost to succeed. Haven't I always told you this?"
Grant wore an inscrutable smile as he gazed out the window. "Let's consider this a clinical trial. If my sister and I are lucky, we will both be fine. If not, I will be with her as her brother, won't I?"
Clarice chewed on her lower lip, her worries not assuaged in the slightest.
"Ms. Thompson is different from any opponent we've faced before." Grant closed his eyes and smiled wistfully "She is smart, resilient, brave, and cautious. Every plot has risks. In order to win her over, the best weapon we have is genuine sincerity."
