Chapter 199 The Legacy Of Immortals
A legacy is the title of the immortals.
The immortals like us, the Vampires that stand the test of time.
We build our legacy piece by piece, so maybe the whole world will remember us or maybe just a couple of people, but you do what you can to make sure you are still around after you are gone.
Everyone must leave something behind when he dies. Something your hand touched some way, so your soul has somewhere to go when you die. It doesn’t matter what you do, as so long as you change something from the way it was before you touched it into something that’s like you after you take your hands away.
These are the times that exemplify what it is to be a man. A man of strength, of love, or purpose. A man who is an example for all others.
A legacy is not what I did for myself. It’s what I’m doing for the next generation.
And next generation is what my beloved is taking into her own hands.
Yes, I am, in parts still furious as I truly had no say in this matter. But the question is, would I have allowed her to go ahead if she asked me to? I highly doubt that I would have made such a bold decision. Yes, I would honestly say that I would have never been ready for such a thing. I never have in my human years, and well, I never even thought of the possibility in my Vampire years.
So, I was wrong.
Now, there are still a few details sketchy as I have gotten the full rundown from John about how the machinery works, the rest…well, he said that it should be something that Cassidy explains. And that she is about to do.
“My beloved, no more sex as a distraction…”
She only but bursts out in a fit of uncontrollable laughter, “The great Lucas Lecarde is saying no to sex? That will be the day.”
“Yes, and that day is today. I have some rather pressing questions, and I cannot wait for that spell to wear off in your head so that I can get my answers.”
She looks at me shyly from underneath her eyelashes as she speaks with a whimpered voice, “Promise that you are not going to get mad at me?”
“My beloved, I cannot guarantee that my blood pressure won’t pitch a height, and neither will my voice remain the same level as now, but I promise you that I shall not try and kill you again.”
“That is truly reassuring, Lucas.” She pauses for a brief moment and gives me a once over; I know she is judging how fast she can get away from where I am sitting. So with not much of a choice, she continues forward.
“It was quite simple. I knew John Gurdon from when I was a resident at the hospital. He was into some pretty strange and sometimes somewhat messed up things. So when this idea came to mind, I gave him a visit and explained to him what I would like to achieve.”Property belongs to Nôvel(D)r/ama.Org.
“Fine,” I stop her while she starts edging away from me, “But how?”
“Surely, I don’t need to explain the birds and the bees to you, Lucas.”
“My beloved, birds and bees require you to be fertile, which sadly you are not.”
“Well, when Ava and I started working at the Hospital, we had some of our eggs frozen.”
Yes, and this is where the parts are starting to become interesting. My beloved has fertile eggs, all she requires, “And you, Lucas is still fertile because of… Well, we don’t know why… So…”
I do believe that I am not going to like what she is about to say. Cassidy has done some crazy things since I took her as my beloved, and let us be honest that she still does them until this day. In fact, I am going to guess that this is one of those crazy things that she has done,
But yet, there lies another element in this which I and all know this for a certain fact that I shall not stand for, but I am afraid that she has deceived me once again.
So allowing her to continue, “See, Lucas. These past recent times that we had so much sex… I perhaps might have taken samples of your sperm to John.”
There is nothing but a roaring rumble that leaves the depths of my chest as fury builds up into a complete rage, “You perhaps or you did?”
“I did.”
“Are you completely absurd! You steal my goddamn sperm so that you can grow a child in a vacuum?”
And just the mere thought of saying that drives me completely insane. What normal person would do such a thing, yet we have established that Cassidy is not even close to that.
“My god, Cassidy. Are you insane?”
“I was only trying to help you fulfill your legacy.”
“What goddamn legacy?” My voice has now reach a pitch that echoes down the corridors. I am sure the entire house can hear our argument. Well, I guess they all are hearing that I have born a child in a fucking tube, or vacuum, or whatever John Gurdon calls it.
Yes, I, Lucas Lecarde, am a father as of early this morning.
Now we are unclear if the child will be human or if it will be Vampire. All that is clear at this very stage is that the child is healthy and growing at the pace a normal child does. However, John has said that the child is showing some signs of development that no normal child does. Thus it leads me to think that the child will be Vampire.
Now for Cassidy to say that this child is my legacy, well, that does make some sense as is a child not the one thing that you leave behind that is a memory of you. The thing is, I am a Vampire; I am not nearly going to die anytime soon. This does make me rather concerned, for am I going to and I have no knowledge of that? Yet, some parts of this make sense.
But…
“Why, Cassidy? What made you decide to do this? Who told you that this was my legacy?”
She breaks her eye contact with me as she looks away, and I immediately think to myself that she did not get this information from a reliable source. God, do I even want to know where she got this idea from. For all, we know that is another attempt as the one of Stephan.
“Cassidy, do I even dare and ask who told you this?”
“It was Roberto.”
“But how would Roberto know if none of the rest of us did?” Then as I am just to start pacing the floor, I turn to her in horror, “Please do not tell me it was when he was possessed?”
Yes, and by the way that she is trying to avoid my face, I need not even have to ask a single other word, “Are you completely insane to believe such a monster as a Demon? You know that they are all about deceit.”
“But, Lucas. It came from us; there is no way that anything can go wrong.”
That is a bunch of famous last words that not any of the Misfits will ever say. There will always be one thing that will go wrong. But I need to look at this in a different light and embrace the fact that I will now, once again, become a father.
Am I ready for such a task, well not that it is a task, but it is a great responsibility for a Vampire that is yet to do some more growing up. I will be honest that I am scared to shit. I can’t believe this woman will steal my goddamn sperm and go create a baby behind my back. What did she call it again?
Ectogenesis.
Well, I am calling it a miracle.
But then everything still comes boiling down to the one things. How can this child be my legacy? Does this truly mean that this Vampire Master will see the end of his days? I hate to think about what the true possibility here is.
I am truly hoping that it is only Cassidy that desires to have a child, that it is only the one thing that most woman desire.
I am in no way ready to leave this life of immortality. I am not yet ready to carve my name on a tombstone and leave my legacy etched into the minds of others.
And the only remainder of me shall be that of a child.
I will do something great that no other Vampire can and born a child; I will leave him behind to remind all other immortals of the Vampire Master that once lived.
Is this really my true legacy… To die?
