Chapter 320
Chapter 320
There was a cold and menacing glint in Scarlett's eyes. This is the woman who infiltrated the research
institute's databank and stole my information. She even hacked City Hall's system and registered Justin
and Veronique's marriage, causing my wonderful dream to be shattered. I was embarrassed in front of
everyone because of her.
“It's fine even if there isn't any evidence. With the Fletcher family's influence, I believe it'll be easy to
invite her to the police station to cooperate with us in the investigation as long as she's a suspect.”
With that, she hung up the phone and made a call to the Department of Justice in Hallsbay.
Because of her status, the Department of Justice couldn't ignore her request.
Half an hour later, a group of officers led by a person in charge from the Department of Justice arrived
in front of Luther Group's building.
Moments later, Scarlett reached the scene in her car as well.
Right after she got out of the vehicle, the person in charge immediately approached her.
“Ms. Fletcher, you mentioned Bailey committed a crime. May I know what the involved offenses are? If
you enlighten me in advance, I can be mentally prepared to handle this issue.”
Scarlett took off her sunglasses, glanced at the person in charge indifferently, and scoffed, “I know
you're acquainted with Bailey, but she committed some severe crimes. You won't be able to safeguard
her, so I suggest you be more sensible.”
“Yes, you're right. Can you tell me what illegal things she did, then?”
“First, she infiltrated a research institute in Jadeborough and stole some classified information from the
databank. Second, she hacked into the system of City Hall in Hallsbay to tamper with the stored
details. I reckon these two offenses are sufficient to detain her, right?”
The person in charge was taken aback. Ms. Jefferson, you're getting more and more capable of
causing trouble.
“These are severe unlawful acts. May I know if you have any evidence to support your claim, Ms.
Fletcher?”
Scarlett glared at him and said through gritted teeth, “She's highly suspicious. The Department of
Justice can take her into custody for further investigation for this reason alone. What's the matter? Are
you trying to defy my orders?”
“No, no. I wouldn't dare to do that.”
In fact, he did lack the courage to refuse Scarlett. After all, she was the daughter of the most
prestigious family in the political world. No one would dare to offend her. Ccontent © exclusive by Nô/vel(D)ra/ma.Org.
“If that's the case, you should quit yapping and go to the top floor office to seize Bailey so that you can
bring her back to the Department of Justice to interrogate her.”
The person in charge was rendered speechless.
Meanwhile, inside the CEO's office on the highest floor of the building, Artemis was drinking coffee with
Raiden.
The atmosphere inside the room was slightly tense.
“You've been visiting Luther Group rather diligently lately, Mr. Fletcher. It's as if this top-floor office has
become your family's backyard.”
Raiden arched his brow. He disregarded Artemis' unfriendly tone and said while wearing a faint smile,
“I can't help it. I must carry out the duty assigned to me by my nation with dedication. Everyone in
Chanaea is placing all of their hopes in Ms. Jefferson. Her accomplishment will determine whether the
5G internet can be successfully invented. I need to stay by her side and ensure her safety at all times.”
Artemis snorted in response.
At that moment, the office door was pushed open. Dwayne hurried into the room and said anxiously,
“Mr. Luther, the person in charge of the Department of Justice has led a team here to apprehend Ms.
Jefferson. They're already inside the elevator.”
What?
The two men leaning against the couch were both dumbfounded as they simultaneously turned to look
at Dwayne.
Dwayne shifted his gaze to Raiden and uttered calmly, “It was Ms. Fletcher who contacted the
Department of Justice and called them over to arrest Bailey.”
Raiden was stumped.
Artemis could not help but let out another snort. “Mr. Fletcher, can you feel the intense irony lingering in
the air?”
Pfft! What a fool. He was talking about ensuring Bailey's safety just a few moments ago, but his sister
barged in here the next second, wanting to detain Bailey. What an irony.
Raiden pursed his lips as he narrowed his eyes and regarded Artemis with a grimace.
Artemis shrugged. Oh, I'm so scared. Tch! He's not qualified to act as he pleases here in Hallsbay.
Meanwhile, Bailey was working on a source code inside an office when someone suddenly barged into
the room.
She looked up in annoyance and met Scarlett's mocking expression.
“Are you looking for me?”
Scarlett cut to the chase. “Bring her away.”
Bailey curled her lips into a smile and shifted her gaze to the person in charge of the Department of
Justice. She raised her brows and asked, “What did I do wrong? Do you mind telling me?”
The latter sighed. “Ms. Fletcher said you infiltrated the database of a research institute in Jadeborough
and hacked into City Hall's system. We would like to invite you to the police station to cooperate with
our investigation.”
“Oh, you're requesting me to accompany you for a cup of coffee? Sure. I'll follow you.”
With that, she got up from her swivel chair.
Scarlett looked at her in slight astonishment, as she didn't expect Bailey to be so accommodating.
Complex emotions filled the person in charge's eyes. He uttered in a deep voice, “Ms. Jefferson, it
won't be easy for you to be released once you come with us. We can only let you go after we're
through with the investigation.”
“That's all right. We've been friends for some time now, so I figure you won't let me starve to death.
There's no hurry. You can take your time with the investigation. If one day is insufficient, keep me in
custody for ten days or even a month. I'll cooperate unconditionally.”
The person in charge was at a loss for words.
At that moment, Artemis and Raiden entered.
Bailey arched her brow at Raiden and said, “I'm sorry, Mr. Fletcher. I think I'm in trouble. Take a look at
this. The Department of Justice has knocked on my door to invite me to be their guest at the police
station. I'm afraid I won't be able to take part in the International Programming Competition. Please
help me explain the situation to the higher-ups.”
Raiden frowned. He turned to look at his sister and questioned her frostily, “Did you bring all these
people here?”
Scarlett shivered slightly because she had never seen her brother acting so stern as he fixated his
cold, hostile gaze on her. Bailey is just an outsider. How can he act so fiercely toward me because of
an outsider? Why is he doing this?
“That's right. I brought these people here. The person I sent to investigate Spook informed me that
Bailey is Spook. She invaded the research institute's database and hacked City Hall's system. What's
wrong with me bringing these officers here to arrest her?”
Bailey chimed in, “That's right. You're not at fault for wanting to arrest me, Ms. Fletcher. I've also
agreed to follow them. Mr. Fletcher, you should step aside to avoid damaging your sibling relationship.”
Raiden glared at Bailey before looking at Scarlett grimly and snapped, “Where's the evidence? Show
me the proof that she's Spook.”
Tears streamed down Scarlett's face uncontrollably, as she was frightened by her brother's ferocious
demeanor. She choked out, “Now that she's a suspect, I am qualified to bring her in for her to
cooperate with the investigation. Raiden, why are you stopping me when even she is not resisting? Do
you fancy her? That's why—”
“Shut up, Scarlett,” Raiden bellowed. Then, with a chuckle, he added, “Fine. Do as you please. I won't
stop you from taking her away, but you'll have to take her place in the International Programming
Competition.”
What?
Scarlett widened her eyes and stared at her brother in utter disbelief. She said with a trembling voice,
“I-I don't know anything about computers, nor am I knowledgeable in source codes. H-How can I take
part in a competition?”
Raiden looked at her indifferently. “So, you're also aware that you're useless. Scarlett, Bailey's
participation in this competition concerns the nation's honor. The higher-ups regard this matter with
utmost importance, so consider your decisions thoroughly. I just want to remind you not to drag the
entire family down with you because of your stupidity.”
Scarlett shuddered as chills traveled down her spine.
It was because of the support from her family that she could walk around proudly and command so
much respect from others. She didn't dare imagine the consequences if the Fletcher family met its
downfall.
