Chapter 270
Chapter 270
The assistant was shocked as she stared at Victoria in bewilderment.
“M-Ms. Saunders, are you feeling under the weather? Should I accompany you to the hospital?”
Wearing a bitter smile, Victoria gradually lowered her head and replied, “I'm fine.”
After saying that, she fell silent for some time before suddenly muttering, “If I sell some shares illegally
to obtain a large amount of cash, will I be imprisoned for a few years?”
“Ms. Saunders, w-what do you mean?”
Victoria took a deep breath, looked up at her assistant, and grinned. “It's nothing. My mind was not Upstodatee from Novel(D)ra/m/a.O(r)g
working properly, so I spouted some nonsense. Let's go. We'll go back to the company first.”
Lucy was rendered speechless by Victoria's response.
Meanwhile, in the CEO's office at Luther Group, Bailey pushed the door open and strode into the room.
She asked, “So, are there any updates on Kayden's whereabouts?”
Kayden was the only witness who could testify Cadence was the mastermind. Only by arresting
Kayden could they completely eliminate Cadence, who was a ticking time bomb.
Bailey felt ill at ease, knowing Cadence was still alive and lurking in the shadows.
Artemis put down the pen in his hand and shook his head. “No. He must have planned his escape
route in advance, so there's no way to track him down at the moment. Give me another two days. I
reckon we'll receive some news soon because I've also mobilized the underworld forces to borrow their
influence for this manhunt.”
Bailey walked up to the curved desk and rested her palms on the tabletop. Then, she leaned forward
and arched her brows at him. “Underworld forces? It seems like you're not as simple as you appear to
be, Mr. Luther. Perhaps you're hiding many more secrets behind your identity as the person in charge
of Luther Group?”
Artemis leaned closer to her, lifted his head, and gently pecked the corner of her lips twice.
“Why don't you make a guess?”
She slapped him on his head and pushed him away.
“It's fine even if you don't want to tell me.”
Artemis was about to say something when Dwayne entered.
“Mr. Luther, something bad happened. The news of Ms. Shurmer being taken away by the authorities
has leaked to the public, including the reason behind her arrest. This topic is being hotly discussed
over the internet, and everyone is waiting for Ms. Anonymous to step up.”
“Waiting for me?” Bailey pointed at herself in perplexity. “Why are they waiting for me?”
Dwayne scratched his nose and took two steps back.
He was afraid of getting dragged into the mess because he sensed the devilish aura enveloping
Bailey's body.
“They are waiting for you to publish the test report to verify whether or not the batch of new medications
has been tampered with. If the test report is negative, Ms. Shurmer will at most be charged with
attempting to commit a crime and be detained for two weeks. However, if the new medications are
indeed contaminated, Ms. Shurmer will be proven guilty for her crimes and will likely be sentenced.”
Bailey raised her eyebrow.
I see. Does that mean I'm in control of Zoey's fate?
She looked sideways at Artemis and flashed a sinister smile. “Your first crush's fate lies within my
hands. Are you going to beg me to show her mercy?”
Artemis waved his hand to chase Dwayne out of the room. Then, he walked past the curved desk and
stopped in front of her. Wrapping his arm around Bailey's waist, he pulled her into his embrace.
Seemingly used to his action, Bailey did not struggle. Instead, she beamed at him, dazzling him with
her gorgeous smile.
Artemis' heart softened at that sight. He could not help but lean in to kiss her eyebrows while he
chirped, “In that case, please show Zoey sympathy and spare her life. However, you did mention her as
my first crush. Well, she's not qualified. There's no place for a first crush in my heart because you've
already occupied every inch of my heart.”
Bailey shuddered in disgust, and she felt goosebumps all over her body.
He's really becoming more and more flirtatious.
“What if I refuse to do so? After all, Zoey provoked me first. I am not a saint. If others dare to lay a
finger on me, there's no way I will do nothing and endure in silence. If Cadence did not make her his
scapegoat, or if I had not taken the necessary precautions, she might have just gotten her way and put
me behind bars. How am I different from those innocent fools out there if I forgive her so easily?”
Artemis' smile grew wider as his grip around her waist tightened.
He uttered tenderly, “If that's the case, then enjoy to your heart's content so long as you don't kill her in
the process. I'm afraid members of the Shurmer family will target you relentlessly if they're driven to
desperation.”
Bailey looked at him in amusement as a sense of gratification filled her chest.
Artemis wondered if Bailey realized how beautiful or exceptionally captivating her facial expression was
at that moment.
“You're such a heartless person, Mr. Luther. Ms. Shurmer once saved your life, after all. Are you going
to stand by and watch as I play with her like a cat does with a mouse?”
He reached out to caress her delicate face, seemingly enticed by and losing himself in her enchanting
smile.
If we were living in ancient times, and I had ascended the throne, I'm sure I would be a terrible ruler of
ill-repute with Bailey by my side. Toying with my council members to please her is nothing. I'm even
willing to fail all my subjects and wreak havoc in this world for her.
“Bay, you are the only person I love. Zoey did save my life. If she wants me to repay her one day, she
can just stab me with a knife, and I will not resist. However, I cannot allow her to harm you because
that is beyond my tolerance.”
Bailey gradually put away the smile on her face.
Just a moment ago, she had planned to let Zoey spend a few years in jail to teach the latter an
unforgettable lesson, but now...
Never mind, forget it. Zoey once saved his life, and that is, without a doubt, a significant favor. I'll let her
go this time and consider the score between Artemis and her settled after this.
“Fine. I'll just let her be detained for two weeks for your sake. Artemis, from now on, you don't have to
take into account the kindness she showed you anymore because the debt has been cleared.”
Instead of saying anything in response, Artemis leaned forward and kissed her lips.
How can I not fall in love with someone like her? To want me to let her go? Hah! There's no way I will
ever let go of her for the rest of my life unless I'm dead.
In a private room in a cafe, the moment Bailey pushed open the door and entered, her eyes were
immediately drawn to an elegant middle-aged woman sitting beside the windows.
She was a graceful and dignified woman whose every gesture was laced with a hint of nobility.
Naturally, those were not of significance. The most important thing was her face.
When Bailey saw that woman's facial features, it was as if she was looking into a mirror.
We look alike, so much alike! No wonder Mr. Luther mistook me for his first crush, and I'm now not
surprised that Zeke confused me with his mother. I do appear very similar to her, the eldest daughter of
the Gezmond family and the matriarch of the Shurmer family—Waverly Gezmond.
Equally shocked was Waverly as she gaped at the young lady at the door in a daze.
If Zozo had not grown up by my side, I might have mistakenly considered her my long-lost daughter.
“You—”
“You—”
Both of them spoke and faltered at the same time.
Bailey arched her brow and smiled. “Please, go on.”
Waverly cleared her throat to suppress her astonishment before pointing at the chair opposite her and
saying gently, “If you don't mind, would you like to enjoy a cup of coffee with me, Ms. Jefferson?”
Bailey did not refuse her. She strode over, sat opposite Waverly, and cut to the chase. “What benefits
do you plan to offer me so that I will let Ms. Shurmer off the hook?”
