Chapter 267
Chapter 267
They seemed as though they were here for some serious matter.
The man leading the group walked up to Waverly and nodded lightly to her. “Mrs. Shurmer, sorry for
disturbing you.”
The Shurmer family in Lostaria was a well-known prestigious family globally. Even the person in charge
of the Department of Justice had to show some respect toward them.
Waverly stood up slowly. In comparison to Zoey, who was in a panic, she seemed much calmer.
“Oh, you're the person in charge of the Department of Justice! It's been a while. Who are you here to
arrest? Has anyone of the Shurmer family done anything wrong?”
The man fixed his gaze on Zoey and said in a formal tone, “Ms. Shurmer, you are suspected of
instructing Kayden Jennings, the person in charge of Dyke Pharmaceutical, to tamper with the new
anti-cancer drug. We would now like to invite you over for an investigation, and your cooperation will be
appreciated.”
Zoey's face became paler, and her legs turned to jelly. She almost fell onto the couch if not for Waverly,
who was standing next to her.
Waverly clasped Zoey's arm tightly and forced a smile. “My daughter is still young, and she has never
experienced anything like this. I think such a huge scene has frightened her.”
Then, she made a mercurial turn of conversation. “Are you sure my daughter is suspected of tampering
with the anti-cancer drug? Dyke Pharmaceutical is under Shurmer Group. How is it possible that our
own family members would do anything to harm the company? I believe you've made a mistake.”
Zoey straightened her back and, trying not to let her voice tremble, said loudly, “That's right. I'm afraid
that someone is trying to frame me. There are many people out there who want to bring down the
position of our family in the medical industry. They will do anything just to ruin our family's reputation.
I'm innocent!”
The person in charge of the Department of Justice glanced at Waverly and Zoey and said lightly,
“That's why we said you're only a suspect. We didn't say you are guilty. Please cooperate with us and
follow us back for investigation.”
Zoey panicked and turned to look at her mother. “Mom, I can't go to the Department of Justice. I just
can't!”
Waverly narrowed her eyes and took in Zoey's flustered expression. At that instant, she had a rough
idea of what had happened. Original from NôvelDrama.Org.
In the end, she's still too young and impulsive, leading to her getting in such big trouble!
“It's okay. Just follow them back to clear things up.”
“Mom...” Zoey looked at her in surprise and said with a trembling voice, “How could you... I-I'm not
going to the Department of Justice! I won't! This will ruin my life!”
Waverly put away the smile on her face and glared at Zoey, scolding, “Your father and brother have got
your back! You don't have to worry about being framed for something that you didn't do! They will think
that you feel guilty if you don't follow them back right now. Do you want to admit that you did something
illegal?”
“N-No, it's not like that. I—”
Worried that Zoey would say something she should not, Waverly quickly reached out and clasped her
shoulders. “It's okay, my dear. Just go to the Department of Justice with them. I'll call your brother right
now and ask him to bail you out. Don't worry; you'll be fine. Don't admit to anything that you didn't do,
understand?”
When it came down to it, Zoey had lived in the Shurmer residence for more than twenty years and had
grown up under the influence of a family with such a strong background. Thus, she quickly regained
her composure after the initial panic.
“Okay. I'll do as you say.”
“Yes, that's right. You'll be fine, okay?”
“Okay.”
After watching the people of the Department of Justice take Zoey away, Waverly quickly grabbed her
phone from the table and gave Zeke a call.
Meanwhile, at the CEO's office of Luther Group, Artemis sat on the swivel chair while Bailey leaned
against the curved tabletop with her arms crossed.
“After a few days of contact, I think I understand Zeke a little bit more. I don't think he's the one who
colluded with Cadence to tamper with the new drug. Artemis, what should we do next?”
Artemis arched his brows and pointed to a name on the document.
Bailey looked down. “Kayden Jennings? Are you saying that the person who colluded with Cadence is
the person in charge of Dyke Pharmaceutical?”
“Yes. It should be him if it's not Zeke. They are the only two people who are capable of doing that at
Dyke Pharmaceutical,” said Artemis while rubbing his chin.
Bailey tried to recall the man in her mind, but her impression of him was that of an honest man.
At that moment, the internal phone next to them rang.
Artemis picked up the phone, but he did not say anything as he listened. After a moment, his
expression darkened, and his brows furrowed.
“Okay, I got it. Send someone to investigate immediately.”
Noticing his drastic change in emotions, Bailey asked curiously, “What's wrong?”
Artemis looked at her, his expression complicated and strange.
After a long moment of silence, he informed lightly, “The people from the Department of Justice went to
the Shurmer residence and took Zoey away.”
Bailey was baffled and did not respond for a while.
What does this have to do with me?
Recalling Artemis' complicated expression, she pointed a finger at herself and asked, “Is her
imprisonment related to me?”
Artemis rubbed his eyebrows and sighed. “The Department of Justice claimed that she is suspected of
instructing the person in charge of Dyke Pharmaceutical, Kayden, to tamper with the anti-cancer drug.”
Bailey was stunned as her mind went blank.
She was utterly flabbergasted.
What on earth is going on?
“Ratemis, are you sure you said it correctly? I did not hear you wrongly either, did I?”
Artemis shook his head and repeated his words, “The Department of Justice claimed that she is
suspected of instructing the person in charge of Dyke Pharmaceutical, Kayden, to tamper with the anti-
cancer drug.”
What the h*ll?
“Don't tell me that stupid woman wanted to frame me but was made into a scapegoat by Cadence?”
Artemis said nothing but gave her a look that showed she had guessed everything right.
Bailey rolled her eyes and said, “What have I done that made her hate me so much? Unfortunately, she
went for wool and came back shorn.”
Chuckling lowly, Artemis replied, “Maybe she was envious of you, or maybe she was jealous of you,
and then it gradually turned into hatred. Anyway, she is indeed stupid to mess with the pharmaceutical
factory that's under her family. Isn't this pushing her own family to a downfall? Other pharmaceutical
companies who have had their eyes on Shurmer Group's share of the market are probably celebrating
now.”
Bailey narrowed her eyes.
Her target was actually Cadence since he had drugged and harmed Maxton. She had to get revenge
on behalf of the boy and ensure Cadence paid the price for it.
However, she did not expect Zoey to ruin her plan.
D*mn it! She should just spend the rest of her life in jail!
