Chapter 254
Chapter 254
Spare? Dispose?
Raiden's eyes narrowed at his sister. “You wish to dispose of her? Who gave you the courage to
contemplate murder, Scarlett?”
Scarlett retracted her neck in fright at his tone.
She grew up with fear in her bones of her elder brother, who had become a general at a young age.
Whenever he was furious, she would feel a tremendous pressure above her, filled with an oppressive,
murderous aura.
“Dad is standing for election, Raiden. If he succeeds, we Fletchers will be elevated yet again. There
cannot be any unsavory news about us during this critical period. If the world knew that the son-in-law
handpicked by Dad led a dishonorable life and had an illegitimate child, how would they view Dad and
the Fletcher family?”
Raiden lowered his head as if in thought.
She continued, “If Dad were to be elected, Raiden, you are going to rise easily. Who else in
Jadeborough would be equal to us? No word of Justin's illegitimate child can be exposed during this
juncture. Since our wedding has been moved up, the Fletcher family's reputation would suffer the most
if the world found out.”
“What do you want to do?” Raiden asked quietly with a frown.
A murderous glint flashed across Scarlett's eyes. “Get rid of them,” she spat those four words through
gritted teeth.
Raiden fell silent for a moment before shaking his head. “That is too extreme a measure, which will
easily backfire on us at the slightest mishap and cause our family to fall into ruins. It's not worth the
risk. Rest assured, however. I will not let that woman and her son spoil your wedding with Justin. Give
me two days to think about it, and I'll provide you with the most pragmatic solution.”
Scarlett's purpose in getting her brother involved was to exile Veronique out of Hallsbay even if she
could not destroy the latter. Seeing as her brother had agreed with her, she naturally wouldn't say
anything more.
“All right. We'll do it your way.”
Waverly handed a stack of documents to Zoey, who was seated in a corner in the living room of the
Shurmer family mansion. “Have a look at these documents. You'll know what you need to do once
you're done.”
“What is this?” Zoey asked as she reached out to receive it. She gazed down, and a delighted smile Content is property of NôvelDrama.Org.
appeared instantly on her lips. “Is this true, Mom? The man who obtained a marriage certificate with
Rhonda is not Artemis but a street beggar instead?”
Waverly picked up a cup of coffee from the table and sipped on it. “Artemis loves Bailey, so why would
he register for marriage with Rhonda? Thus, out of curiosity, I sent somebody to investigate Rhonda's
lawfully wedded husband whose name was in the document, and found, interestingly, that this person
is not the head of the Luther family as his personal information is completely different from Artemis'.”
Zoey clutched the documents in her hand and sneered. “Poor Ms. Rhonda to have been given away by
Artemis to some beggar, yet still blissfully unaware of it. Now, she's announcing to the world that she is
legitimately Mrs. Luther. To be fair, she really is Mrs. Luther, but not to the husband she expected but a
street beggar instead. Hah!”
Waverly met her daughter's eyes and reminded her, “Don't get too cocky. It wasn't Artemis who
registered for marriage with Rhonda, which proves that she is not your actual opponent. You have been
sabotaging the wrong person. Bailey, the internationally famous woman, is the one standing in your
way.”
Zoey grinned. “Thank you for your reminder, Mom. I know what to do.”
If her memory served her right, the new drug produced by Dyke Pharmaceutical, which belonged to the
Shurmer family, was Bailey's creation.
If I can sabotage the drug to create side effects for the patients, Bailey will be going to prison for a long
time.
Bailey was pushing Glen in his wheelchair around the artificial lake in the Chivers residence's garden.
“Speak your mind, Old Mr. Chivers. You don't have to be apprehensive around me.”
Glen sighed. “You're an intuitive girl. I barely showed any indications, and you'd guessed that I have
something to say. Just as well. We've grown very close, so I won't beat around the bush. Here I go.
Though I don't know how you feel toward my eldest grandson, I know he has fallen for you. You are a
beautiful and intelligent girl, and you should know that you would only hurt each other if something
happened between you.”
Bailey's footsteps froze. She squeezed the wheelchair handles until her fingernails turned white.
I should have seen this coming.
Artemis arranged for fireworks, which were prohibited in the city, to light up the sky over Hallsbay to
celebrate her birthday. With such a grand gesture, every discerning eye could see his intentions.
“What would you like me to do, Old Mr. Chivers?”
Glen looked up at her and smiled. “Your social circle is at Archulea, isn't it? When are you planning on
returning?”
Bailey fell silent.
She understood Glen's intent. He wanted her to go abroad and away from Artemis.
How would that strong-willed man allow me to go?
“All right. I promise you, Old Mr. Chivers. After the new drug launches successfully, I will bring Zayron
and Susan out of Hallsbay.”
Glen heaved a sigh. “Do you blame me, Bay?”
Bailey shook her head with a bitter smile. “You're right. We'll only hurt each other if I keep getting
involved with him. I should think for the children even if I don't think for myself. There's no need to be
emotionally burdened, Old Mr. Chivers. I know you love us.”
“Good girl.” Glen patted the back of her hand and sighed. “You can't force what's not meant to be.
Though Eddy isn't as good as Artemis, he is another rising star of the next generation. I hope he can
give you a stable life. Consider it God making up for the shortcomings of your romantic life.”
Justin was on his knees on the cobblestone floor outside the Revelle residence, bowing his head.
The sun seared overhead and baked the ground until a heat wave rose.
Countless beads of sweat seeped out of his forehead. Though his face was flushed red, his lips were
deathly pale.
He had not been able to sleep since he discovered the truth about Zephyr's parentage, which caused a
heavy toll on his body. In addition to being subjected to the scorching sun, his strength was starting to
fail him.
Yvonne gazed helplessly at her father seated on the couch in the living room. “It's noon now, Dad,” she
lamented, “and it's approaching forty degrees out there at the very least. He's been on his knees
outside for two hours. I'm worried that his life would be in danger if this continues.”
Bill glanced at the clock on the wall and slowly rose from the couch. He strolled to the door to regard
Justin below the steps. “I only have one question. Answer me truthfully, no games. How did my
daughter get pregnant back then?”
Justin shuddered violently.
It was an answer he found difficult to begin explaining.
How am I going to tell a father to his face that I had forced myself on his daughter?
