Chapter 247
Chapter 247
After making up her mind, Felicity quickly reached out and snagged her phone from the coffee table.
Swiping the answer button, she spoke without waiting for Rhonda to do so. “Ronni, I'm having a party
at home today. Would you like to come over and join me? After all, you're now the mistress of the
Luther family, so some socializing is a necessary evil.”
On the other end of the phone, Rhonda was slightly startled.
I wonder if the old biddy has gone crazy. Otherwise, why would her attitude toward me do a one-eighty
out of the blue?
However, on second thought, understanding dawned upon her.
She's probably repulsed by that b*tch from the Shurmer family, so she's frantic to get me over to knock
Zoey down a peg or two, embarrassing and humiliating her. Têxt belongs to NôvelDrama.Org.
“I phoned you precisely to inquire whether you needed my help to entertain your guest, Mrs. Luther. If
you do, I'll make a trip to the Luther residence. You're right that I'm now the mistress of the Luther
family, so I should be attending such an event.”
Felicity swiftly answered, “Of course, I need your help! Come over earlier and entertain Ms. Shurmer
well. Both of you are young, so you've got common topics. That way, she won't be left out.”
“Sure.”
When Felicity hung up the phone, she lifted her eyes to look at her husband, whose expression had
gone grim. Arching a brow, she drawled, “I reckon you have no objections that I have the daughter-in-
law of the Luther family come back and entertain our guest, right, Mr. Luther?”
Gerald cradled his head helplessly, lamenting with a sigh, “Is this necessary? Not only is Zoey a well-
mannered and obedient child, but she also has an influential family background. If you put aside your
prejudice, you'll definitely like her.”
“Hah!” Sneering, Felicity mocked, “How much trouble did that woman cause me back then? Like her
daughter? Sorry, but I'm not that dumb.”
“How impertinent!” Gerald saw red. He paced back and forth in the room while pointing a finger right at
her, seemingly having something to say yet hesitant to do so. After doing so a few times, he flicked his
sleeves and stormed toward the door.
In the next instant, Felicity's nonchalant voice drifted into the air. “You'd best give that daughter of your
first crush a phone call and warn her not to come over to the Luther residence to invite humiliation. As
long as I'm alive, there's no way she's marrying my son. Tell her to just give up.”
Gerald went silent.
In the bedroom in the Jefferson residence, Rhonda started dolling up after disconnecting the call.
No sooner had she changed than Beatrice rushed in from outside.
“Ronni, I just received news that Artemis reserved the entire top floor of Mystique Land, seemingly to
have dinner with a mysterious woman. I believe that that mysterious woman is Bailey, for his
subordinate wrote her name when ordering flowers at the florist.”
Rhonda's hand that was holding her foundation stilled momentarily. Turning, she cast her gaze at the
door and declared with a chuckle, “I gave that old biddy, Felicity, a call earlier. Before I'd even uttered a
word, she earnestly told me to go back and attend a party as the mistress of the Luther family.”
A hint of joy showed on Beatrice's face. “Really? It looks like I hit the nail on the head, and Felicity
loathes that b*tch from the Shurmer family. She'll never allow Waverly's daughter to marry into the
Luther family. As for Bailey, she is Simon's woman in Felicity's eyes. Thus, there's no way she'll allow
her to marry Artemis. You're still the true winner at the end of the day, Ronni.”
Rhonda turned back before picking up the foundation and starting to apply makeup. “Since that old
biddy wants me to go over, I'll grant her wish and do my best to humiliate that b*tch, Zoey. Not only will
that please her, but it'll also amplify Zoey's hatred toward Bailey, killing two birds with one stone. I can't
wait!”
The conversation ended there.
In the morning, Bailey brought Zayron and Susan to the Chivers residence to visit Glen.
She first performed a full body check-up for the man. His post-operative recovery was speedy, so his
condition had basically stabilized, which made her feel relieved.
While she had successfully cured the king of Eskaria a few years ago and had solid clinical experience,
Glen was already up in years. Therefore, she took a high risk to operate on him when he was at the
advanced age of eighty-plus years.
“Thank you, Bay. If it weren't for you, I would've probably gone to reunite with my late wife now.”
Bailey eyed Glen with a smirk. Quirking an eyebrow, she queried, “Are you complimenting me or
deriding me, Old Mr. Chivers? I heard from Edmund that you'd been looking forward to reuniting with
Old Mrs. Chivers. Thanks to my interference, you'll have at least another ten to twenty years to live.
You're probably utterly resentful of me since your wish had shattered, right?”
Glen waved a dismissive hand. After criticizing Edmund for a bit, he snorted and huffed, “He's a dense
one. He's outstanding in all aspects, but he'd never brought a single girl home to meet me throughout
the years. I felt that there was no hope for a great-grandchild, so I decided to allow death to take me.
Consequently, I'd no longer have any worries. But now that he'd fallen for you, I've got hope again.”
Coughing lightly, Bailey averted her head in embarrassment. “Edmund is incredibly outstanding. That's
a fact recognized by the elite society. Even without me, he'll be able to find a girl you both like.”
“I like you.”
“I like you.”
Both Glen and Edmund spoke in unison.
Uh...
The atmosphere in the room abruptly turned strange.
Noticing that Bailey was pretty much mortified, Gwendolyn hurriedly came over and smoothed things
over, stating with a smile, “It's your birthday today, so you must stay and have lunch with us at noon,
Bailey. You can do anything you want after that.”
After saying that, she reached out and took Bailey's arm. “Come to the kitchen and get busy with me,
your prospective mother-in-law.”
Bailey was instantly rendered speechless.
Glen watched as they both left before turning to his grandson at the end of the bed. Frowning, he
asked, “You haven't won her over?”
With an unruffled smile on his face, Edmund murmured, “I'm in no hurry since I've even waited for her
for seven years.”
In response, Glen harrumphed. He took out a stack of documents from the drawer at the side and
tossed them onto the covers. “Take a look at these.”
A glimmer of puzzlement flashed across Edmund's face. He instinctively lowered his eyes and looked
at the documents.
The instant he made out the contents, he couldn't help frowning. “It wasn't Artemis who registered his
marriage with Ms. Rhonda, but a beggar he found with the same name as him? What are you trying to
say, Grandpa?”
“What am I trying to say? Do you really have no idea? Edmund, has your cousin fallen in love with
Bailey?”
Edmund was promptly taken aback.
Upon receiving no response from him, Glen continued, “Don't deny it either. Although I'm old, I'm not
blind. I can still perceive the awkward relationship between the three of you. Bailey can marry you but
not Artemis. If he were to get together with his biological brother's woman, the rumors from the outside
world would completely ruin him.”
Chuckling, Edmund echoed with a sigh, “I think he shouldn't be having so much interaction with her
either. So, I'd like to ask you to talk to him privately.”
Then, the conversation tapered off.
In the guest room of the Xuereb residence, Scarlett reclined against the head of the bed with weariness
lining her face.
She spent an entire night digesting the secret she overheard at the medical base yesterday.
In fact, she had already ordered someone to verify it and was merely waiting for the person's reply.
Ding!
Her phone beeped with a notification of a text message.
She reflexively looked down.
It read: Ms. Fletcher, it's been verified that Zephyr is indeed Justin Xuereb's son.
