Chapter 245
Chapter 245
Dead silence reigned.
Two whole minutes passed before Veronique's hoarse voice drifted out of the phone. “Let me think
about it further. There must be some other way to convince Scarlett. I'm sure about that.”
After saying that, she hung up right away.
Bailey stared at her blackened phone screen through narrowed eyes, sighing helplessly.
If Justin were designated as the ideal son-in-law by some ordinary merchant family, it wouldn't be a
problem to kick up a fuss since she has the Revelle family backing her up. Alas, the other party is a
prestigious family in the military field, the Fletcher family. Their influence encompasses the entire
political arena, and they have ultimate power. With a single order, even the Luther family would suffer a
blow, much less the Revelle family, with no underworld background.
“What's wrong? I could hear you sighing from the adjacent room. Have you run into a problem of some
sort?”
All of a sudden, a deep and rich voice rang out beside her ear, making her jump.
Sensing a broad chest plastered against her back, she didn't dare move about.
“M-Move back for a bit. I'm feeling hot.”
Artemis arched an eyebrow with a smirk. “Are you? In that case, how about stripping? Then, you won't
be hot anymore.”
Words eluded Bailey.
Good Lord! This raunchy beast has started acting up again!
Reaching out, Artemis wrapped his arms around her waist and buried his handsome face into the hair
at the back of her head. He inhaled deeply before murmuring in a husky voice, “I was initially rather
tired, but all my fatigue dissipated after I took in your fragrance. I now feel that I've got unceasing
energy. How about—”
“Stop!” Bailey hastily interjected. She then ordered, “Go and talk to Justin. Tell him about the dastardly
thing he did seven years ago. Zephyr is innocent, and he shouldn't be tortured to death by his illness.”
In response, Artemis gave a low chuckle. “This decision should've been made long ago instead of
dragging things out until now. I know you're both worried about the Fletcher family's influence, but here
in Hallsbay, I am the law. I'm not necessarily afraid of Sloan Fletcher.”
Bailey abruptly turned around. “You also think we should tell Jus... Hmph...”
Her action made it evident that she was offering herself to the man behind her on a silver platter. As
such, Artemis naturally didn't hold back with her.
He leaned down and captured her lips almost at the very second she turned around.
Slowly, he deepened the kiss.
In the end, he began feeling dissatisfied by the shallow kiss that couldn't quench his thirst for her at all.
Every time he touched her, he felt a fire blazing within him, causing his mind to go blank and the desire
within him to soar to epic proportions.
The urge to pin her underneath him and take her hard so that she would be swept away by the tide of
his sea of passion gripped him.
Taken aback by the feral air emanating from him, Bailey stole a peek at his eyes out of her peripheral
vision. The instant she glimpsed the undisguised lust in his gaze, something in her mind snapped.
Ugh! This scoundrel has actually lost control. He lost it in the office in broad daylight! Sure enough, a
man who's been abstinent from the pleasures of the flesh for too long is terrifying and dangerous.
Judging from his ravenous look, not even ten women would be enough to satisfy him!
“Artemis.”
Seizing the opportunity while he had all his concentration on devouring her, she stretched out her
hands and shoved him away without warning.
Artemis staggered back two steps and fell back onto a swivel chair in the office.
He cradled his forehead in exasperation and lamented with a sigh, “I initially thought I had all women
on earth eating out of my palm. Never had I thought that I'd end up falling in love with a thorny wild
rose. Never mind, just forget about it. How would I dare force you if you're unwilling?”
Bailey rolled her eyes, exasperation written all over her face.
What a rogue! He took all he wanted from me earlier, so why is he now putting on an aggrieved
expression like I had just bullied him?
“Did you hear everything I said to you earlier?”
Snagging the coffee mug on the table, Artemis threw his head back and guzzled the beverage. When
he finally suppressed the fire burning within him by the skin of his teeth, he replied hoarsely, “I'll talk to
Justin about it when I return to the medical base tonight.”
“Okay.”
Artemis lifted his eyes and looked at her, casually querying, “Are you free tomorrow?”
I've never gone on a date. It's probably sweet, flirty, and romantic to the core. I'll try it tomorrow.
Unfortunately, he ended up disappointed.
“Sorry, I've got a date tomorrow. Edmund said he'd like to treat me to a meal.”
It was as if a bucket of cold water poured down on Artemis, drenching him from head to toe.
The smile on his face gradually faded. Narrowing his eyes, he stared at her and enunciated, “You can
only date me tomorrow. Turn everyone else down.”
Hearing his arrogant and domineering tone, Bailey let out a bark of furious laughter. “Say, Mr. Luther,
can you please be reasonable? It was Edmund who asked me out first, and I agreed. Please practice
the concept of first come, first served in everything, okay?”
Hah!
Artemis sneered.
If I were to practice the concept of first come, first served with Edmund, he wouldn't even be able to
touch the hem of her clothes!
“Fine, then. Have him treat you to lunch and leave the night free for me. That's compliant enough to
that concept, no?”
Bailey was rendered speechless.
The corners of her mouth twitched violently.
How shameless! Yet, I've got no retort for that.
In the guest room in the Xuereb residence, Scarlett was on the phone while sitting on the couch.
“Have you discovered anything, Raiden? How did my genetic data leak out?”
After a moment's silence, a deep, baritone voice drifted out of the phone. “It was a four-star research
institute in East Chanaea that leaked the information. After verification by experts, it was found that a
hacker infiltrated the research institute's database.”
“A hacker?” Scarlett shook her head, her eyes glinting with shrewdness. “I don't think it's that simple.
The Revelle family has long since been prepared. Rumor has it that the child suffering from leukemia
has been raised by the second daughter of the Revelle family, Veronique, and she was the girl who had
a huge crush on Justin back then. Raiden, help me investigate this matter thoroughly. I want to know
why Yvonne handed a royal descendant of the Gregan empire to her sister to raise.”
“Okay. I'll order someone to investigate it right away. You're not in the pink of health, so don't donate All content © N/.ôvel/Dr/ama.Org.
your bone marrow, Lettie. Do you hear me?”
“Don't worry, Raiden. I've finally gotten a chance to live, so how would I possibly do something so
foolish when I hadn't even married Justin?”
“Okay. I'll hang up first. Just call me if there's anything.”
“Sure.”
No sooner had Scarlett disconnected the call than Olivia walked in with a plate of fruits.
Scarlett frowned, displeasure showing on her face. “Mrs. Xuereb, I don't like someone else entering my
room without my permission. Please knock before coming in next time,” she drawled.
Olivia was startled for a moment.
She wanted to say that it was the Xuereb residence, so she had the authority there.
Yet, she didn't dare do so.
The prospective daughter-in-law before her was too high and mighty, so she could only treat her with
the utmost respect.
“Sure, sure. I'll remember to knock next time. Justin phoned earlier and said he'd only be back a bit
later as he had something to handle at the medical base. He told you to rest earlier.”
At the mention of the medical base, Scarlett's interest was piqued. “I've never been to his medical
base, so I'm really curious. Mrs. Xuereb, can you arrange for a driver to send me over?”
Olivia naturally wouldn't turn her down. “Sure! Then, I'll have Wyatt drive you over. Do you need me to
accompany you?”
“No, it's okay. You're up in years, so you should rest earlier. Oh yes, don't phone Justin about this. I
want to go over secretly to give him a surprise.”
“Sure, sure!”
