Chapter 220
Chapter 220
After watching Bailey enter the living room, Artemis struggled to get up and head to the bathroom.
A moment later, Bailey came back out of the master bedroom, properly dressed.
Well, she had no choice. There was a beast in the house, and she dared not walk around in a
spaghetti-strapped nightgown like Susan. If she did that, she would essentially be offering herself up to
a certain man.
When she entered the living room, she found no one on the couch. Her eyes then flited toward the
bathroom, where the sounds of running water were coming from.
Just as she was about to walk over to ask him what he wanted for breakfast, a ringtone of a phone
traveled into her ears.
It was Artemis' phone.
A while of hesitation later, she walked over to pick up the phone.
When she lowered her eyes and looked at the screen, she was greeted by the name “Zoey.”
Instinctively, Bailey raised a brow.
The contacts that Artemis saved on his phone were all important people.
Thus, she wondered, A confidante?
An evil plan formed in her head. She turned around to glance at the bathroom before walking over to
the balcony. Then, she answered the call.
Before she could say anything, a crystalline clear voice of a woman traveled out of the speaker.
“Artemis, what are you doing? I'm thinking of coming back to Hallsbay in a few days' time. As usual, I'll
stay in your seaside mansion when I'm there.”
Bailey was speechless upon hearing that.
Are they that close to each other? It sounds like she's a frequent guest in Artemis' private mansion. Is
she Artemis' first crush?
Just then, the door to the bathroom opened with a clink. When Bailey turned to look in his direction, she
was taken aback.
What the f*ck? I can't believe this man is coming out of the bathroom half naked.
As Bailey's mind went blank, she dropped the phone.
Holy sh*t, there's no way I'm going to be able to clear my name if the woman on the other end of the
line misunderstands the situation.
“Who's calling?” Artemis asked as he walked over.
Bailey narrowed her eyes at him with a frown. “Aren't you mad that I picked up your call without asking
for your permission?”
By then, Artemis was already on the balcony. He casually reached out his arm to wrap it around her
waist before whispering in her ear, “I was serious about what I said to you last night. I want to marry
you, so what's wrong with my wife picking up a call for me?”
The hair on the back of Bailey's neck rose. For a moment, she forgot to struggle as she tilted her head
to look at him. “You still remember what happened last night?”
Mirth danced across Artemis' eyes at that.
He knew what the woman was worried about, and he could not help but think... What a greedy woman.
“Yes. I only remembered that I told you I wanted to marry you. Was there anything else?”
“No, no.” Bailey hastily shook her head, and her actions made her look a little silly. “That's all that
happened. I...”
Artemis' heart melted when he saw her anxious demeanor. ConTEent bel0ngs to Nôv(e)lD/rama(.)Org .
Before she could finish her sentence, he leaned over to plant a kiss on her lips.
Beep, beep!
His phone rang at the most inopportune time. Bailey thrashed and pushed him away before shoving his
phone into his hands. She muttered, “Your confidante is calling. She says she wants to stay in your
mansion, but I didn't answer her. It's best that you call her back, or else the beautiful lady is going to be
mad.”
Artemis lowered his gaze to look at the phone she had pressed against his chest. Then, he grabbed it
and threw it onto the couch. “Ignore her. Let's continue.”
“Mm!”
As Victoria walked down the spiral stairs in the Saunders residence, she said to the person on the
other end of the line, “Are you sure Mr. Gezmond is currently in Fashionista?”
“Yes, I've looked into his tracks per your instructions, and he is indeed currently in Fashionista. Do you
need me to book an appointment with Fashionista's secretary?”
“No,” Victoria rejected immediately. “The appointment will be at least three days after, and I can't wait
that long. I must meet Mr. Gezmond right away. You can carry on with your work. Thank you.”
With that, she walked down the last step.
Right as she was about to head out the door, Vincent's voice came from the direction of the couch.” Are
you going to meet Lionel?”
Victoria halted in her tracks immediately.
She then slowly turned to look at her father and pursed her lips. “Lionel is personally supervising
Fashionista, and he has demanded that the law enforcer give my brother a severe punishment. Father,
we have no other choice. If I don't lower myself and beg him, I'm afraid my brother will be in jail until he
dies.”
“Even so, you can't go.” Vincent leaped to his feet, agitated. “Isn't Lionel trying to take revenge? He
should be coming after me if he wants to do that. Listen to me, and don't get involved in this. Be good.
Stay home. Ignore Victor's matter because I'll think of a way to deal with it.”
A bitter smile appeared on Victoria's face as she hoarsely said, “Dad, do you want me to watch as the
Saunders family gets ruined? I can't do that. You and Victor are my family. How can I sit on my hands
and watch as the two of you get thrown in jail until the end of time?”
Despite the many years of hatred she had for her family, when the opportunity was ripe for revenge,
she realized that she could not cut ties with them at all.
However, Vincent shot out his arm and smacked the coffee table twice before pointing at the spiral
stairs. He snapped, “You're not allowed to go if I say no! Get back to your room right now! Without my
permission, you can't leave your bedroom. Do you hear me?”
Victoria bit down hard on her lower lip before inching toward the exit of the living room. With tearful
eyes, she said, “If Lionel hadn't been so trustful of me back then, his reputation wouldn't have been
destroyed by your schemes. At the end of the day, the pain and humiliation he went through were all
because of me. The one who should be paying the price is me.”
With that said, she spun around and sprinted out of the living room.
“Victoria!” Vincent bellowed after her, but his angry shouts could not stop his determined daughter.
“Ulrich, call Ms. Bailey and tell her about the situation. Have her stop Ms. Victoria.”
“Sure. Please calm down. I'll contact Ms. Bailey right now.”
On her way to Lionel, Victoria received a call from Bailey.
Bailey blurted out, “Vicky, do you know that you won't be able to turn around once you go there?
Lionel's waiting for you to come.”
Victoria wasted no time in telling Bailey, “Bay, I've been living like the dead all these years. Let me see
him and end this miserable love between us, or else I'll never be able to live in peace for the rest of my
life.”
After hearing that, Bailey said nothing else and quietly ended the call.
She knew that no one in this world could save Victoria. Perhaps only after going through an episode of
excruciating pain and torture would she be able to transform into a different person.
Victoria drove to Fashionista's office.
When she entered the building, she patiently conversed with the receptionist at the first floor's lobby.
“I really have something urgent to talk to him about. Please let me head up to meet Mr. Gezmond. If
anything happens, I'll bear the full responsibility for this, so you won't be held accountable.”
“Ms. Saunders, I'm really sorry, but I can't let you go up without an appointment.”
Right as Victoria was about to say something else, a commotion broke out outside the lobby.
“Mr. Gezmond's wife is here. Let's hurry over to greet her!”
