Rhonda finally lost it. She threw herself into her mother's arms, crying. “Mom! This is the end of me!
What should I do?”
The veins on Beatrice's forehead bulged in agitation as she clung to her daughter firmly. “Tell me what
happened. I can't help you if you don't tell me about it. How did all this happen?”
“I-I...” Rhonda wiped away her tears and choked out what had happened between Cadence and her.
“I really had no other choice. Cadence refused to help no matter what. He said he didn't lack anything
despite what I offered, so he asked to sleep with me instead. I was at my wit's end, so I gave in. That's
how I managed to bring him to Hallsbay.”
Beatrice flopped to the ground, staring at her daughter in utter despair. “How could you be so silly,
Rhonda? How could you agree to such a deal? There's no turning back if the Luthers find out about
this!”
Rhonda fell back into her mother's arms and sobbed. “What can I do, Mom? It's already happened, and
there's no point in scolding me right now!”
Beatrice closed her eyes in desperation. After a long while, she managed to curb her emotions and
regained her composure.
“Ronni,” she called, opening her eyes, “You only spent twenty days with Cadence when you went
abroad, so even if you got pregnant, it must have happened very recently. There's still a chance we can
turn the tables.”
“How? Rhonda asked hoarsely.
Beatrice's gaze turned cold and ruthless. “Discuss with Cadence. Ask him to think of a way and make
this child in your belly Artemis'.”
A smirk curved on Beatrice's lips. “Cadence must be delighted to know he has a child. Given Maxton's
condition, that child has fallen from grace. If you give Artemis another child now, it will mean the Luther
family has another heir again. Cadence will definitely agree to the deal. After all, who doesn't want their Belongs to (N)ôvel/Drama.Org.
child to grow up in the Luther family? It's a good deal.”
Rhonda stared at her mother, perplexed. “I don't understand, Mom. Do you hear yourself? This child
belongs to Cadence. How can I make the child Artemis' child?”
Beatrice slapped Rhonda's forehead. “Are you dumb? Can't you use your brain? Just drug Artemis and
sleep with him. This child will be his, then.”
A flicker of hope shone in Rhonda's lifeless eyes.
“This is a good plan. I'll talk to Cadence now. As you said, he will happily let the child grow up in the
Luther family because this means he will have full control of the family in the future.”
Beatrice helped her up, replying, “Wait here. I'll bring some pregnancy test kits, Ronni. Now that things
have come to this, we will ditch the first plan and go with this plan instead. We will use another way to
force Artemis to marry you.”
Rhonda took a deep breath and nodded. “I'll do as you say. It turns out this baby is a blessing in
disguise. Cadence will definitely have a way to make Artemis sleep with me. If Artemis fell for it, he
would have no choice but to marry me.”
“You're right.”
Twenty minutes later, Beatrice came back with some pregnancy test kits.
“Go. Take the test.”
Rhonda took them and closed the bathroom door behind her.
After some time, she came out again with mixed feelings in her heart. She felt pleased but also worried
and disappointed at the same time.
Beatrice rushed over. “How's it?”
Rhonda shook her head. “I tested three times, but they are all negative. Are you sure I'm pregnant,
Mom?”
Puzzled, Beatrice stepped aside and went into the bathroom herself.
After a few seconds, she came out wearing a calm expression. “We must have tested too soon. Go to
Cadence and ask him to run a test. He's a doctor, so he'll be able to get a more accurate result. Hash
out a plan with him if the result is as expected.”
Rhonda clenched her fists and nodded. “I'll go now, Mom. I'm actually looking forward to getting
pregnant after knowing your plan. I'll get to force Artemis to marry me if we can get him to sleep with
me.”
“Yes. Hurry.”
Over at the Saunders family's mansion, Victoria sat on the couch, staring coldly at the middle-aged
man sitting opposite her. “Are you worried about giving me a better position in the company? Is it
because you fear I will help Lionel bring down the company and our family?
Vincent cleared his throat and smiled awkwardly. “Come on. Why are you still so temperamental? I
thought you'd be more calm and collected after years of working at Luther Group. I'm glad you're
returning to the family business, but it's not easy convincing the board of directors to give you a
powerful position.”
Victoria scoffed, “Aren't you the chairman? I'm surprised you don't hold sway on the board, but
whatever. I'll just quit if I can't land a legit position. But remember this. If anything ever happens to the
Saunders family or the company, don't ever think of getting help from me. I'm starting my own
business.”
With that said, she stood up and left.
“Hold on,” Vincent blurted out, holding her arm and pulling her to sit back down on the couch. “You're
the only hope the family has now. Your brother is only interested in enjoying life instead of the
company. There's no point in nurturing him.”
“Really?” Victoria smirked.
“Is that why I'm getting a sinecure post in the company? You're getting worse at lying, Dad. Victor might
be useless, but he's still your son. I thought you've always favored sons over daughters. You can just
entrust the whole family business to him. I don't care.”
Vincent's back hunched helplessly as he sighed. “Vicky, I know you still hate me for what I did to the
Gezmond family, but you must understand that I didn't have a choice. Our family could've been
destroyed if I didn't do that. You're mistaken if you think Mr. Gezmond is a principled man. He's even
willing to sacrifice his sister for his own interest.”
Victoria was puzzled. “What do you mean by that? Aunt Waverly married into the Shurmer family of
Lostaria. That's what everybody dreams of. How is that sacrificing her?”
“Ha,” Vincent sneered with a derisive look on his face.
“The Shurmer family is good, but it's not where Waverly wants to be. She loved Gerald Luther, but her
own brother split them up. This is why Waverly did not lift a finger to help when the Gezmonds hit a
rough patch. She hates that family through and through. She hates Benjamin.”
