Chapter 10
Chapter 10
JACE.
I waved one more time to the Alpha and Luna of the Blood Moon Pack before I maneuvered my car out
of their packhouse grounds and drove towards the road that would lead me to the right border.
As soon as they were out of sight, I rolled the windows up and glanced at the female beside me.
She had her eyes closed and her arms crossed against her chest as she leaned her head on the
window beside her.
"I have a jacket in the backseat if you’re cold," I said in a low voice before turning my attention back to
the road.
She was dressed in a tight denim mini skirt and a spaghetti strap top, and I was sure the cold didn’t
bother her at all, but I was more concerned with myself.
I might be limiting myself when it comes to playing around, but I'm an Alpha wolf, and my libido was
high, and with her legs on display for the next four to five hours, I could only imagine the torture she
would inflict on my dick. I had nowhere to release my heat, so I hoped she would either cover herself or
refrain from teasing me.
"Amara…" I called her attention again when she refused to answer.
"Hmmm.." she mumbled her reply.
"Are you going to ignore me for the next five hours?"
"Five hours isn’t hard. Imagine being ignored for the whole seventeen years," she said sarcastically,
and it made my forehead crease.
Here we go again.
"Aren’t we moving on from this?" I snapped at her.
"I already did, but it doesn’t mean I’m not allowed to talk about it." She adjusted her position and raised
her legs on the dashboard before smiling at me. "I know you hated when I put my feet in here, but I just
want to stretch for a while."
My gaze shifted from her face to her body and trailed down to her thighs and up to her feet before I
returned my eyes to the road.
"It’s a dangerous position. You can get your legs amputated if we hit something or get hit by
something."
"I can shift into my wolf before impact." She giggled softly.
"I see nothing funny in what I said."
"Loosen up. At least if we die tonight, you’ve gotten laid already. I’m still a virgin."
My hold on the steering wheel tightened as I tried to erase all the thoughts she was dumping into my
head. "Who said about dying?"
"Oops, sorry. I forgot that no one is allowed to die until Mr. Jackson Galhart finds his fated mate."
"Amara, can you fucking stop now?" I said it with a low growl.
"Relax. It’s just us. Let it enter one ear and leave the other, as you always do with me — see me and
ignore me. Easy peasy." She said nonchalantly as she put down her legs.
I let out a deep sigh.
Maybe if I remained quiet, she would stop as well. Why did I even bother to ask her if she planned to
ignore me the whole time? Maybe that would have been a better scenario than this.
We reached the border without talking, and I rolled my windows down. The warriors on the border just
gave me a salute the moment they saw Amara beside me and told me we could pass already. Nôvel(D)rama.Org's content.
I was about to roll the windows up when someone called my attention.
"Alpha, good evening." The voice made me turn my head back, and I saw Hammond, approaching. He
was just a year younger than me and the son of Uncle Aeon’s Beta, Krane.
"Hammond, good evening." I greeted him back.
"Alpha, I just found out Amara is with you. Do you mind if I have a word with her?"
I didn’t answer but just cocked my head to Amara’s side.
I didn’t look at them and focused my sight straight ahead while resting my forearms on the wheel.
"Hello, there…" Amara greeted him in a perky voice as if she were so happy to see him, as she rolled
down her window.
"I didn’t know you were leaving tonight. I could have driven you." I couldn’t help but look at them, so I
did, and I saw Hammond prompting his arms on the window frame — their faces were so close.
"I didn’t know too. But Jace came to pick me up."
"Everything alright with you?"
"Yes. Don’t worry, laziness just got me today."
"Okay. You don’t have your car with you, so you know the protocol. Just call me anytime during the day
or at night. I can pick you up anytime."
"Yes, Beta…" Amara gave him a salute.
"Okay. Be careful." He said, and I wanted to raise my eyebrow, but I let my face remain emotionless
even after he acknowledged me. "Alpha Jace, drive safely."
"Yes, sir," I answered in a cold tone as I revved up the engine almost immediately after. I hope they
didn’t notice I was so eager to fuck off from here.
I pressed the button for all windows to roll up without waiting for Amara and Hammond to finish waving
at each other.
"Will he be your Beta?" I asked as I pressed the gas to amp up the speed.
"Of course. I don’t see anyone more suitable to be my Beta than him."
"Good to hear. He seemed to care for you. A lot."
"Is that jealousy I detect?"
I scoffed but didn’t reply.
"You know his loyalty is with me, so I’m glad he cares for me."
"He likes you."
"Then good for me. At least I know Hammond is as virgin as me." She stifled a giggle, and as much as
I wanted to scowl at her, I kept a poker face.
"So you’re going for him now?"
"No. I’ll wait for my fated mate. Damn all these boys around me."
"Good for you."
"If Hammond turns out to be my fated mate, I need a new Beta. I hope Scooby will accept it." She said,
and it made my head snap in her direction.
She looked serious with her words, and something hit my chest.
She said she wanted me but never once mentioned that she hoped I would be her fated mate while I
was clinging to my hope that she was mine.
I let out a deep sigh and tried to clear my mind. If this was her way of making me jealous or lose focus,
she was succeeding. But I knew better not to let it get to me.
"Did you tell Dad about what happened?" She broke the silence between us.
"No."
"Thank you." She said softly, and I felt guilty the moment those words left her lips. I was hoping Uncle
Aeon would not slip and tell her about it.
"Uncle told me about your coming of age party." I tried to divert the conversation somewhere else.
"Hmmm…"
"He said you’re choosing between me and Zach to escort you that day. Or am I out of the picture now?"
She chuckled softly. "Zach would have been a good choice, but then…"
"Amber." I finished for her. "They’re not a couple, so it shouldn’t be a big deal."
"Couple or not, I value friendship more than anything. So it’s a no."
"Me too. I value friendship more than anything." I blurted it out.
Fuck, why did I have to push that?
She didn’t say anything.
So that was it? Not Zach? So was it me? Or not. I wanted to ask but remained quiet.
"Maybe Hammond will agree, if not, I’m sure my own brother will not be able to say no." She added
after a while.
"So I’m really out of the picture." I chuckled, not letting her know that it hit me hard. Not because I
wanted her but because I was hoping we could still save the friendship.
"Maybe it’s better that way. Hammond is not a bad choice." I added, saving what was left of my
disappointed heart.
"Yeah. There’s also my Gamma, Sam. I have a lot of choices. Anyway, it’s two months from now. I don’t
want to think about it yet."
"But am I invited?" I asked, and this time I let a smile play on my lips as I glanced at her.
She tilted her head, and our gazes met. Her eyebrows slowly raised before a tease of a smile curled on
her luscious lips. "Even if you’re not invited, I’m sure you will gate crash. Or if not you, I’m sure the
guys will kidnap you and bring you to my party."
I chuckled as I nodded my head and turned on the radio, pointing it to her so she could choose her
music, which she did without any hesitation.
The next thirty minutes became too dragging as Amara wasn’t talking. She was just staring ahead or at
the window beside her, and as much as I wanted her to talk, I didn’t want the discussion to go over the
disagreement we had, so I just kept my mouth shut.
Until she broke the silence between us.
"Jace…" Her voice came out soft, and despite the soft music playing in the background, I heard her
loud and clear.
"Yes?"
"How should I act around you now?"
