“Don’t be ridiculous,” Winston warned, his voice chilly and distant. It was as though he was deliberately avoiding the situation.
Millie stood rooted to the spot. Right then, her gaze inadvertently locked with Winston’s dark eyes. When he frowned, Millie did too. Just like that, they stared at each other, neither willing to break eye contact. It was only when Joanna turned that Millie’s attention was finally drawn away.
Millie’s hands, resting at her sides, clenched slightly as she asked, “Does the Aspher belong to Winston?” Before Winston could respond, Joanna’s icy voice interjected, “Who else would it be?”
Millie ignored Joanna and turned her attention to Winston, wanting to hear his explanation. If the Aspher was indeed his, did that mean he was the one who sent the herb to the auction house overseas?
And if that was the case, why didn’t Winston give it to Millie directly? Why did he have someone else to do it instead?
Millie’s tone was calm as she asked again, “Mr. Greer, is the Aspher yours?”
She needed to know the truth. It seemed absurd to have such a valuable herb and not know where it came from.
However, Winston didn’t want to admit it. He was worried that if Millie learned the Aspher was from him, she would refuse it out of spite.
Knowing he owed Millie for past wrongs, he decided to give her the Aspher when he realized she needed it. He wanted to make amends for his past mistakes.
“What more do you need to know? Of course, the Aspher belongs to Win, and he was the one who gave it to you, got it?” Joanna snapped, her tone laced with irritation.
After saying that, she cast a quick look at Paxton behind them.
Millie’s gaze remained fixed on Winston, who happened to look at her. When their eyes locked, he didn’t deny it. Clearly, Joanna was right. The Aspher was indeed his.
“Then who is he?” Millie asked, pointing at Paxton. Was he just some actor Winston hired?
Winston massaged his temples. After a brief pause, he spoke up.
“Millie, the Aspher does indeed belong to me.”
Millie stared at Winston, her eyes reflecting complex emotions.
Meanwhile, Joanna’s expression was one of frustration. It appeared that Winston’s reluctance to give the Aspher to her was to make sure it went to Millie.
Millie’s gaze darkened. She had never imagined that Winston was the owner of the Aspher.
“I was afraid you wouldn’t accept it, so I told a white lie.” Winston had no other intentions. He was only afraid that Millie might not accept it.
Millie’s expression grew more conflicted. No wonder she had acquired it for such a low price. No wonder
she had to retrieve it herself.
She found herself both amused and exasperated. With so many strange things happening, why hadn’t she put it together sooner?
“So, the Aspher is already in her hands, right?” Joanna’s tone remained steady.
Winston nodded.
Millie felt a sense of resignation. It wasn’t just in her possession; the Aspher was probably already in pieces by now.
Joanna’s hands balled into fists as she cast a sorrowful glance at Winston. Without saying a word, she turned on her heel and left.

Joanna felt deeply hurt. She was now Winston’s girlfriend, and he had the Aspher. As his girlfriend, shouldn’t she have been his top priority? Why had he chosen to give the herb to Millie instead of her? Winston glanced meaningfully at Millie but said nothing. Then, he quickly went after Joanna.
