Hearing his reply, Blackbeard thought that Nathan was trying to reign in his arrogance and was even submitting.

He decided to meet him halfway and proposed a compromise.

"Mr. Cross, since you were sent on behalf of the five great families to speak to me, I am willing to forgive you for the injuries that you have inflicted on my men."

Then, Blackbeard's eyes fell on Ava before a steely look entered them. "However, your lady bodyguard here has cut off the arms of more than a dozen of my men, and she must pay the price."

Nathan's lips twitched again. "Oh?"

Ava stood motionless next to him, her pretty face calm and unreadable. It was as if she had not heard Blackbeard demanding Nathan to punish her harshly.

"What do you mean by that?" Blackbeard's eyes widened. "If you're not punishing her to appease me, then what are you punishing her for?" Nathan stood with his hands regally behind him and said casually, "Of course I'm doing it for my own reasons."

Nathan met Blackboard's eyes evenly and said in an indifferent tone, "Don't you understand, Mr. Blackboard? It was your men who first treated me disrespectfully. They dared to point their guns at me and tried to shoot me. My bodyguard has already shown them mercy by only chopping off their arms. Mr. Blackboard, you really must teach your men to behave better.
