Chapter 1085

Rowan said, “She made me feel like a jerk. But everything she’s done, one thing after another, proves she’s not some innocent girl. She always acted so pure and kind in front of me, like some helpless, weak, and vulnerable rabbit.

“She had no family to depend on, just living in constant fear of the world. It turns out that behind the scenes, she used her advantages to bully classmates and make herself look spotless.

“In college, she played with people’s feelings like it was some game. Even with your father, she only got involved with him because she thought she could use him to marry you. But she ended up getting herself caught in her own trap.

“Everything about her became so clear to me, but she had the nerve to blame me. She said it was my fault for not treating her well, for doubting her, for hurting her. I never imagined someone could be so two- faced.”

Rowan spilled everything he had been holding back, unloading his thoughts onto Joe.

Ever since learning the truth, he had felt like a complete fool who couldn’t tell right from wrong.

“I should’ve known what kind of person she was long ago. I should’ve cut my losses. But when she returned to me, I thought all these years of sticking by her meant something. Turns out she was just using me the whole time.”

As he spoke, Rowan tipped his head back and gulped down more alcohol.

After Rowan finished speaking, Joe walked over and sat on the couch. He looked at Rowan and said, “It’s not too late to realize it now.”

Hearing his words, Rowan lifted his gaze to meet Joe’s. “Yeah, now I know. But does that mean I deserve to have my feelings toyed with by a woman?”

Joe’s response was blunt, as always. “You’ve toyed with plenty of women’s feelings yourself.”

Rowan’s expression shifted from one of utter heartbreak to a forced smile. His gaze shifted awkwardly as he said, “My situation with Jenny is different. When I’m with other women, it’s all understood. They see me as a playboy. But with Jenny, I was truly sincere.”

He remembered the times when a few women had cried when leaving him. Back then, he found it annoying.

He believed that romance was always a two–way street, so there was no point in crying over it.

Standing up from the floor and settling back onto the couch, he noticed several empty bottles scattered. It felt like a harsh reality check and stung quite a bit.

Seeing Joe’s usual cold demeanor, he scoffed and said, “You wouldn’t understand how I feel.”

“I actually admire you. You divorced Skylar so quickly and then moved on effortlessly to other engagements. How do you manage to be so heartless? Share some of your wisdom with me.” He quickly switched the topic to something more gossipworthy.

In his eyes, Joe’s seriousness about Skylar didn’t seem like the kind that would lead to a divorce just like that.

Yet here they were. Joe had not only divorced but had quickly moved on with someone else. That kind of

speed was something Rowan had never even dared to imagine.

It wasn’t surprising when it happened to someone else, but it felt strange when it involved Joe.

Joe’s expression turned icy. Rowan forced a smile and said, “Skylar is really something special. I have a feeling you’re going to regret this later.”

It wouldn’t have mattered if it had been anyone else, but Skylar was genuinely great.

“Have you thought about what you’re going to do next?” Joe asked.

Rowan let out a self–deprecating laugh. “What else can I do? I’ll just go home. My parents are probably waiting for me to return with my tail between my legs. At least I can return to being the Jakeman family’s carefree heir.” This content © Nôv/elDr(a)m/a.Org.

Saying that made him feel like he had just drowned his sorrows in alcohol for no reason. Joe replied nonchalantly, “Yeah, that works.”

Just then, Rowan’s phone began buzzing incessantly.

He glanced at the screen to see an unknown number. He had received plenty of calls today, most of them from Jenny.

He hadn’t answered any of them.

But now, looking at this unfamiliar number, he decided to pick it up. “Who is this?”
