Chapter 164: Older Brother
Drystan's POV
As I finally stepped onto the familiar grounds of the Shadowfang Pack, a deep, bone-weary exhaustion settled over me.
The long journey from the Nightsong Pack to here had taken its toll, both physically and mentally, but even as my body cried out for rest, my mind was consumed by a far greater concern - the wellbeing of Astrid. Two days ago, I received the news from the Shadowfang Pack that Astrid's life was in danger. The moment I heard what happened, I instantly rushed out of the Pack, determined to be there beside Astrid as soon as I could.
However, Beta Caden, our Pack's Beta, stopped me before I could even take a step out of the Packhouse.
He held me back and punched out my senses through his words. He made me realize that I have my own responsibilities as an Alpha, and I can't forget all about them just for Astrid.
I had no choice but to stay for two more days. My duties and responsibilities as an Alpha held me back, but there wasn't a minute that I never thought of Astrid.
Of course, I trust that Alpha Theron will take care of his daughter. Astrid is in good hands. There's no better place for her than the Shadowfang Pack.Content property of NôvelDra/ma.Org.
Nova was also diligent enough to give me updates on Astrid. I just couldn't stay still until I was with Astrid.
To say that I was deeply worried was an understatement. I finished everything as soon as I could just so I could finally leave and be with Astrid.
As I strode purposefully through the Shadowfang Pack territory, I caught sight of a familiar figure - Nova. I've told her that I'm coming today. I didn't expect that she would wait for me here. "What took you so long?" Nova asked as she approached me
"What are you doing here? How is Astrid?" I asked her.
"Asha and Alpha Theron are there guarding her. Drystan, are you alright?" Nova's eyes squinted worriedly when she noticed the exhaustion etched across my features.
I felt a surge of relief to hear that Astrid was fine, and just as I had thought, Alpha Theron wouldn't let anything bad happen to his daughter. "I'm alright," I replied to ease her worries. "I'm sorry that this happened to you, Nova. Tomorrow is your birthday, but " "It's okay," Nova cuts me off. "I just hope that Astrid would wake up soon. How could we even think of celebrating my birthday while Astrid is fighting for her life?" Nova replied understandingly.
"I'm really sorry, Nova," I muttered guiltily. "Is there something you wish as a gift?" I asked her, hoping that I could make it up to her by giving her whatever she wished to have.
Nova suddenly lowered her head and smiled sorrowfully. "I'm already turning 23 tomorrow, and I still don't know who my mate is. I just wish I could finally meet him."
My heart tightened when I heard her wish. Usually, the earliest that werewolves could meet their mates is when they turn to age eighteen. It's about to be five years already, yet Nova still hasn't met hers.
I could understand where her feelings were coming from. She's not getting any younger, and there could be a lot of reasons why she still hasn't met her mate.
I'm sure she's afraid that she won't
find her mate ever. "Don't worry, Nova." I placed a hand on her shoulder to comfort her. "I will surely help you look for your mate. That lucky bastard has to love you and appreciate you as his mate. promise you I will make sure that
your mate accepts you not
what. I will also take care of your marriage. You don't have to worry about anything else."
Nova turned silent when she heard the promises I made from the bottom of my heart.
As an Alpha, she can place complete trust in my words. I had promised her sister before she died that I would take care of her like an older brother.
As an older brother, it's my job not to let anyone hurt her.
"I know that," Nova finally replied. "I'm lucky to have the Alpha of the Nightsong Pack as my backer. With our connection with the
Shadowfang Pack, I doubt that I ne
anyone would even dare to reject me as their mate," Nova answered haughtily.
I scoffed at her audacity. Still, I know that deep inside her strong words lie many worries in her heart.
"That's why you don't have to worry, Nova. Even if your mate is a human, I will do all means to make him stay with you," I added, hoping that my words would placate her worries.
I followed Nova as she led me to where Astrid's room was. I pushed back the fatigue that threatened to overwhelm me. I couldn't wait to see Astrid again.
I didn't expect that Astrid and I
would meet again like this. I told her
before that wouldn't stay long at
the Nightsong Pac. However, a month has passed, and she's already been in an accident, so
haven't fulfilled my promise of
I still
coming back.
"What do you mean you made a mistake, doctor?" I heard Asha's voice after we turned to a corner.
My brows furrowed when I saw Asha and Andros standing outside Astrid's room, talking to a doctor.
"What's wrong?" I asked as soon as I approached them.
All of their gaze snapped towards me when they heard my voice. They all looked surprised, not expecting to see me behind their backs.
