Chapter 160: Role of a Mother
Damien's POV
I quickly pulled Vanessa inside the room out of anyone's earshot before things could escalate between us.
Knowing Vanessa, she might act hysterically once she finds out the truth. Her temper has always been quick to flare. Her constant outbursts were oftentimes rooted in her jealousy.
I couldn't imagine what her reaction would be if she found out that the child I had brought me wasn't just any random child but a baby that I had from a different woman.
Saying that she would be furious is even an understatement. It's been years since Vanessa and I had married, but she had never been pregnant.
It would be an insult for her to find out that her husband had his eldest child with a different woman while we have been married.
Vanessa fell quiet when her gaze fell on the little innocent child sleeping inside a special crib in the middle of the room.
She slowly took careful steps towards the sleeping infant, her eyes never leaving my daughter's face. She had forgotten about her anger the moment she saw my daughter peacefully asleep.
I turned to the nurses inside the room who were taking care of my daughter and signaled them to leave.
With a slight motion of my head, the nurses understood what I needed and immediately left the room, giving us the privacy that we needed.
I instantly locked the door behind me as soon as everyone else except for Vanessa had left.
When Vanessa heard the door click as the lock shifted in place, she turned her attention back to me, her eyes narrowing suspiciously.
"Damien, what is it that you want to tell me that you can't tell in front of the others?" she asked with her suspicious gaze.
As soon as those words left her lips, her eyes suddenly widened. "Damien, don't tell me!..."
I swallowed hard when she made the right guess.Content © NôvelDrama.Org 2024.
Vanessa took in a sharp breath as her hand instantly flew to her chest. "How could you!" She breathed out with a betrayed expression on her face.
I didn't have to give her an answer. My silence was enough to answer her question.
Vanessa shook her head in denial. As she denied her thoughts, her eyes landed on my daughter again, making her jolt backward as if my daughter had a terrible infectious disease.
"No, no. I can't won't accept this. You can't just bring your illegitimate child here. You should take her back where she came from!" Vanessa yelled at me as she fumed in anger.
"Never once in my life have I ever experienced humiliation like this. You are my mate, but all you've brought me was shame!" Vanessa continued to yell at me.
"What do you think the people would think if they found out about this, huh? What kind of woman would that make me?! People would think that I'm someone who couldn't take care of her husband!" Vanessa lashed out as her anger flared. The shrill wail of the baby pierced the air after she was startled awake by Vanessa's outburst.
In a heartbeat, I sprang into action and swept the tiny, trembling form into my sturdy arms with a tenderness that was unfamiliar, especially for a person like me.
I swayed her gently and murmured soft, reassuring words, my deep baritone voice vibrating with a tenderness I scarcely recognized as my own.
With each passing moment, I felt the tension bleed from her, the frantic rhythm of her heart gradually slowing to a steadier cadence.
I stole a look at Vanessa out of the corner of my eyes when she suddenly fell silent. I caught her bewildered gaze, her features etched with disbelief.
No doubt she had never witnessed this side of me - the fierce, unyielding Alpha reduced to a gentle father.
"Tell me, Damien, who is her mother?" Vanessa asked, lacking all the feistiness that she had.
Staring straight into her eyes, I answered, "You are her mother, Vanessa. From now on, you must take care of her as your own. She will have no other mother than you." Vanessa suddenly scowled at my words, her hands turning into fists. "I will never take care of a child you had with a different woman. I won't accept this!"
"This is not something you can
decide on Vanessa, no matter what you will have no choice. My daughter will live here with me. It's up to you if you will take the role of being her biological mother or Would you rather let everyone find out the truth?" I explained to her that I
wanted to show her the gravity of this situation.
"You—" she fumed angrily, but she wasn't able to talk back. She knew I was right. Her reputation lies in her decision.
I'm giving her an offer that would be beneficial for her. She knows what I'm saying. I'm going to make an announcement for everyone, a surprise to the whole Pack.
In order to hide the truth, I could just simply announce that she was secretly pregnant all along and had finally given birth to a precious baby daughter, but for that to happen, she had to accept the role of being my child's mother.
Vanessa gritted her teeth. She was
trapped, left with no other choice.
"Fine, that child could call me mother, but don't expect that I will dutifully fulfill my role as a mother to her," Vanessa replied rebelliously. "Be glad you didn't have a son, or else I would have never agreed to this."
I knew Vanessa would make a smart move. "It's fine, you don't have to religiously fulfill your role as a mother. As long as you keep these few conditions I have; first, you must not hurt my daughter and second, don't reveal the truth to her and anyone else. Remember, you are her biological mother, you gave birth to her and no one else." I straightened everything with her.
