Chapter 18
Jayden shook his head.”No. You came here with your legs, looking for a job.”He mutters.
Evelyn flips a lock of her hair behind her ear, glaring at him.”I came here for a job as an accountant or secretary, whatever. I am not here to act like a damn servant.”
“Of course. You are acting as my secretary. As a secretary, you should follow your boss to important meetings without no complaints.” He rambles, maintaining his cool and acting like he is not affected by her rants.
“You don’t have to tell me my duties as a secretary. I know it already.”She snaps at him.”But, we are done for the day.”Contentt bel0ngs to N0ve/lDrâ/ma.O(r)g!
He moves an inch closer to where she is sitting down and bent to her level, his hands dropping on her desk.
He holds her gaze..”Can’t you work overtime, as an experienced secretary?”He questions her.
“I can. I have done it before. But, today is different.”She says, not breaking eye contact.
“Why?”
Evelyn gives a half-shrug She should not tell him that she has a date with her boyfriend. Jayden is just her boss. He doesn’t have to know about her personal life.
Her long eyelashes flutter rapidly.”I have a movie date with a friend.”She lies.
“Who?”
Evelyn hisses inwardly. Why is her boss so nosy? He should leave her alone and mind his business, instead of asking her unnecessary questions.
“Marina, right?”He utters.
She nods her head in the affirmative, even though she is lying.”Yes. I have a movie date with her.”She answers.
He stands straight, shoving his hands in his pocket once again.”Meet me in the parking lot.”
He turns to leave her office. Seems like he remembers something else, he faces her.”Do something to your hair. You look like hell.”
“What the hell should I do to my hair?”She barks before he can leave her office.
He shrugs.”I don’t know. Better still, pack it in a ponytail. It fits you more.”
With these words, he leaves her office.
Evelyn dugs her hand into her hair, turning the hair condition worse.
“I hate you, Jayden Turner.”She almost shouts.
She rests her head on the desk, taking a deep breath. Her boss wants to end her life or turn her into a madwoman.
Now, she is going to disappoint her boyfriend. Maybe, they will have another date tomorrow, that is if her wicked boss won’t ruin it.
She brings out her phone and texts her boyfriend about the situation. His reply comes almost immediately, he is not upset about it.
Evelyn walks to the restroom to have a look in the mirror. Her hair really looks like hell, they are so messy. She quickly brushes her hair and packs it in a ponytail, as Jayden said.
She hates that she just does what he says. She hates that she packs her hair in a ponytail. Now, the arrogant man will feel so proud of himself.
She reapplies makeup on her face, carries her handbags, and walks to the parking lot.
Jayden’s latest car is in the parking lot. Like the other day, the driver is not around. Jayden deliberately told the driver to leave. He always wants to have privacy when he is with Evelyn.
Evelyn swallows hard as she approaches his car. She breathes in and enters the car.
“Took you long enough.”Jayden comments.
Evelyn doesn’t give him a response or even spare him a glance. She decides to ignore him, till they finish the goddamn meeting and go to their respective houses.
“You look better with this ponytail. If you like, we can visit a hairstylist when we are done with the meeting.”Jayden says.
She doesn’t mutter anything or act as if she hears the words that slip out of his mouth. Her eyes are fixed on the road.
A line appears between Jayden’s brows. He wonders why his secretary is not saying anything. He stares at her through the rear mirror, her face holds a frown and she doesn’t look happy.
“It is just a simple movie date. It is nothing special or important. Why should she be upset because of that?”He wonders.
He clears his throat.”If you like, I can take you to the cinema after the meeting. You will be free to watch any movie you want.”He offers.
He wishes that what he said will make her smile or mutter a word, but she doesn’t say anything or even battles her eyelashes.
His brows draw together.”If you like, I can buy a cinema for you. You can live there and watch movies with anybody.”He pauses for a moment.
“Except Morris Anthony.”He adds.
Still, she doesn’t mutter anything, burst into laughter, or beam a smile.
Jayden feels like an idiot. Not because of the stupid offers he is busy making, but because of his last sentence. Why did he mention Morris Anthony? What the heck is wrong with him?
Is he jealous of him? Why should he be jealous of him? He is richer and more successful than Morris Anthony. He is also more sensible than him. Morris Anthony is a person who chases everything in skirts and engages in shady business deals.
Or, is he insecure? Insecure because all the ladies he knows seem to have a crush on the son of a bîtch, Morris Anthony.
Jayden shrugs off his crazy thoughts and focuses his attention on driving. He hates that he is getting bothered because his secretary is giving him the silent treatment or whatever they call him.

Jayden and Evelyn reach the restaurant where the meeting is going to take place, a few minutes later.
Evelyn is still giving him a cold shoulder, not talking to him even when he asks her a question.
The only time she mutters a word is when she greets Zachary, Jayden’s business partner. She doesn’t say anything apart from that. She only does her duty of jotting down important things Jayden and Zachary talk about.
“Let’s stay here for a few minutes. I like the environment.”Jayden says to his secretary.
They are done with the meeting. Zachary has gone back to his company.
Jayden frowns. He doesn’t like the silent treatment she is giving him. She is acting like a deaf person.
He gazes at her, she is glancing around the restaurant.
“I like it here. Should I buy this restaurant?”Jayden asks.
He is not expecting a reply from her though.
“Sadly, I have bought it already.”
Jayden looks up. He almost lets out a hiss when he sees that it is Morris who made that statement.
“Damn! Evelyn is here with me.”He exclaims in his mind.
Jayden turns to Evelyn. He sees that her big brown eyes lit up in delight when she catches a glimpse of her crush, Morris Anthony.
Jayden’s hands squeeze into fists. He hates how she looks so happy to see Morris.
“Morris Anthony.”Evelyn suddenly screams happily.
Jayden shoots her a deadly glare. Look at the lady who has been giving him a stupid silent treatment.
