PHB 99
Lucas: Honey, are you waiting for me right now? As soon as my client leaves, I’ll come pick you up. I promise.
Lucas waited anxiously for a response to the text message he sent to Deasy. He hoped his wife would understand and forgive his current situation.
Deasy: Relax, Luc. I’m almost done here. I need to pick up some medicine and vitamins. Jonas is fine with me. When you’re completely done with work, just come over here.
Lucas: Alright, please be patient and wait for me. Later, we can have lunch together outside.
Deasy: Sure, my beloved husband. I’ll be waiting for your arrival.Content protected by Nôv/el(D)rama.Org.
Earlier, Lucas had been in a meeting. Once his work was finished and he made sure his client had left the office, he quickly grabbed his car keys and prepared to pick up Deasy.
Lucas knew today was the day their son was scheduled for vaccinations at the hospital. He had also promised his wife that, no matter how busy he was, he would make time to pick them up from the hospital.
“Mr. Lucas, don’t you want to have lunch first?”
Felix, who was organizing files on the desk, immediately spoke up. He reminded Lucas to have lunch so he wouldn’t forget, as he had in the past due to his busy schedule.
“No,” Lucas shook his head. He had been ready to leave but paused to answer Felix’s question. “I need to get to the hospital quickly.”
“The hospital?”
Felix furrowed his brow. From his expression, it was clear that the stocky man was curious about what Lucas had just said.
“Who’s sick and in the hospital, sir?” Felix inquired, eager to know.
“No,” Lucas replied. “No one is sick.”
“Then what’s going on?”
“I’m going to the hospital to pick up Deasy and Jonas. Today is Jonas’ vaccination schedule. Since I missed the opportunity to accompany them earlier, I thought I should make up for it by picking them up directly from the hospital.”
Felix smiled and nodded in understanding. As a devoted family man, Lucas always put his family above everything else. No matter how busy he was, if his wife called or asked for his presence, Lucas would do his utmost to make time and come right away.
“I thought someone was sick.”
“No, and let’s hope it stays that way.”
“So, Mr. Lucas, you’ll be having lunch outside then?”
Lucas nodded in response.
“Yes. I’ll have lunch with my wife. So, you don’t need to arrange anything today.”
“Alright, Mr. Lucas.”
“Well, in that case, I’m off. I don’t want Deasy and Jonas waiting too long.”
“Understood, Mr. Lucas. Drive safely. Send my regards to Jonas.”
Lucas hurriedly left the room. Once in the car, he immediately drove, hoping to reach the hospital as quickly as possible.
During the journey, Lucas kept praying, hoping that the traffic wouldn’t be too heavy, so he wouldn’t be late, causing Deasy and Jonas to wait for too long.
Honestly, because he knew his son was growing so healthy and adorable, Lucas felt uneasy and even worried when taking him out of the house. Truth be told, Lucas didn’t like it when other mothers would pinch and squeeze Jonas’ cheeks without permission due to their fascination with the baby.
That’s why, if he had to take Jonas out, Lucas got into the habit of putting him in a stroller, facing the baby towards him so that people couldn’t freely admire their son.
After a thirty-minute drive, Lucas finally arrived at his destination. He entered the hospital and spotted Jonas, who was happily strolling around with his mother-in-law.
Lucas quickly approached, taking over Jonas, who responded immediately and seemed impatient to be picked up and held.
“Where’s Deasy, Mom? Is she still waiting for the medication?” Lucas asked when he didn’t see his wife.
“I think she finished waiting. If I’m not mistaken, she was sitting in the lobby. Didn’t you see her?”
Lucas shook his head. He had been in such a hurry that he hadn’t paid much attention to his surroundings.
“Lucas, sometimes you’re oblivious to what’s happening around you.”
“Well, you can check in the lobby.”
Lucas complied. While carrying Jonas, he searched the hospital lobby for Deasy’s whereabouts.
And indeed, as he scanned the area, Lucas finally spotted his wife. However, something bothered him. Lucas observed how Deasy was sitting and chatting amiably with a man.
Upon closer inspection, he realized that the man sitting with his wife was none other than Deasy’s ex-boyfriend, who also worked as a doctor at the hospital where Jonas was getting vaccinated.
Feeling slightly irritated, Lucas approached them. When he got closer, he decided to remain silent for a moment, trying to eavesdrop on what his wife and her ex were discussing. They were so engrossed in their conversation that they didn’t even notice Lucas’s presence.
“Are you really not married yet? That’s hard to believe. You’re so handsome and successful as a doctor.”
From his vantage point, Lucas could see the man in front of Deasy smiling. How could he not smile when Deasy was clearly complimenting his looks?
“Seriously. I’m still not married. I’ve been waiting for you all along. But when we met again, you were already married. Such a shame.”
“No need to flatter.”
“Oh my goodness, Deasy. I’m not flattering. I’m just stating facts. And besides, you’ve become even more beautiful. Seriously, there’s a huge difference from before. I really regret breaking up with you.”
Lucas, who had been listening faintly to their conversation, grew even more irritated. Of course, he thought, Deasy had become more beautiful with time. Throughout their marriage, he had spent countless amounts of money to enhance her beauty and fulfill all her needs.
And now, with Deasy looking even more stunning, Joseph had the audacity to flirt and compliment her.
Meanwhile, Deasy herself appeared to be blushing, basking in the praise from her ex-boyfriend.
Frustrated by what he was witnessing, Lucas stepped closer. Deasy, who happened to glance up, suddenly realized it. She cleared her throat, realizing Lucas was giving her a sharp glare.
“L-Lucas,” Deasy stammered nervously. Like a thief caught stealing chickens, Deasy found herself flustered upon seeing Lucas, who was now standing right in front of her.
“Darling, are you done?” Lucas asked affectionately, reaching out his hand to invite Deasy to stand and come closer to him.
“I’ve been done for a while,” Deasy replied anxiously.
Lucas nodded. He turned to Joseph, who was also standing nearby.
“How are you, Mr. Lucas? I’m-”
“Doctor Joseph? My wife’s ex-boyfriend?” Lucas interrupted immediately, as if he knew what Joseph was going to say. “Don’t worry, Doc. I haven’t forgotten.”
“Oh, uh,” Joseph responded awkwardly. “I saw Deasy sitting alone, and since it’s been a while since we last met, I decided to approach her and chat.”
Lucas nodded.
“It’s fine, Doc. I don’t prohibit my wife from being friends with anyone, including her ex-boyfriend. So, relax. There’s no need to feel uncomfortable.”
After saying this, Lucas turned his attention back to Deasy. He flashed a smile and then gently pulled her to get ready to leave.
“Is everything done now?”
“Yes, Luc. Everything’s done.”
“Alright, let’s go. I’ll take Mama out for lunch, and then I’ll drop you both off before heading back to the office.”
Deasy agreed with a nod. She left Joseph behind and joined Lucas in the car.
During the ride home, Lucas remained silent. He responded to what Deasy said with minimal words. Even during lunch, Lucas spent more time playing and conversing with Jonas.
Aware of Lucas’s change in demeanor, Deasy finally mustered the courage to address the issue when her husband had already dropped her off at home. In their bedroom, after Lucas had placed Jonas in his crib, Deasy approached him from behind and hugged him.
“What’s wrong, Luc? Are you mad at me?”
Lucas chuckled sourly. Could she really be asking that?
“Mad? Not really. Just normal.”
“Liar,” Deasy protested incredulously.
“Do you think I have a reason to be mad, huh? Is it okay to be mad when I hear my wife being called beautiful by another man?”
Lucas released himself from Deasy’s embrace. He turned around and gazed intently at his wife while continuing to speak.
“Yes, Des. You do look more beautiful now. There’s a big difference from when we were dating,” Lucas said, echoing Joseph’s words from earlier.
“Luc… I-”
“Are you still not married?” Lucas interrupted once again. “Even though you’re so beautiful and successful. It’s hard to believe you’re still single.”
“Lucas,” Deasy admonished him once more, feeling uncomfortable as Lucas seemed to be mimicking her and Joseph’s conversation at the hospital.
“What’s wrong?” Lucas asked casually. “Are you annoyed by what I’m saying? And how about me? Can I be annoyed when my wife’s ex-boyfriend casually calls other guys handsome?”
“Lucas, are you jealous?”
“Are you asking me if I’m jealous or not?”
Deasy sighed and tried not to get caught up in Lucas’s mood. She approached him, wanting to speak to her husband after he had taken her back home. In the bedroom, after Lucas had laid Jonas down in his crib, Deasy approached and hugged him from behind.
“Why are you like this, Luc? Are you mad at me?”
Lucas laughed. Could she really be asking that?
“Mad? Not really. Just normal.”
“Liar,” Deasy protested incredulously.
“Do you think I have a reason to be mad, huh? Is it okay to be mad when I hear my wife being called beautiful by another man?”

Lucas without warning shook his head.
“No need to hug me. You’d better hug your handsome ex.”
Lucas then walked away, leaving Deasy without saying goodbye. From his expression, it was clear that he was deeply disappointed.
Now it was up to Deasy to figure out how to make Lucas forgive her and not remain angry.
