Chapter 67
Chapter 67 Loneliness
"So, you're the boss of the Reed Group?! Give back our money!"
"Corrupt capitalist, how many people have you ruined?!"
The scene outside the maternity ward was chaotic, with Nathan instantly surrounded by a group of pregnant women and men. "Emily, let's go."
Mr. Satan carried Emily with his arms and smoothly escorted her away from the commotion.
As they got into the car, Emily still felt a lingering unease.
Mr. Satan tenderly rubbed her forehead, fastened her seatbelt, and started the car. "Don't worry, your uncle is fine."
Emily looked up at him.
Mr. Satan gave her a gentle look. "I have some connections in New York City. Nathan can't touch the people I want to protect."
Every time he said something like this, he seemed nonchalant. It was as if things that were difficult for ordinary people were trivial for him.
If Nathan was considered an upper-class man, Emily couldn't imagine what Mr. Satan's true identity might be. When the truth was revealed, she wasn't sure if she could handle it.
Sensing her gaze, Mr. Satan chuckled. "Why are you looking at me like that?"
"It's nothing, I just don't know how to express my feelings."
"If you want to say thank you, then just close your eyes and rest for a while. Sorry and thank you shouldn't exist between us. Emily, I don't like formalities, especially when you're being formal with me." Emily gently said, "I'm not being formal, I really feel... I don't know how to say it. Mr. Satan, I owe you so much."
"You're not mad anymore?" Mr. Satan smiled. "You're the one I'm focusing on now. If you're angry, just say it. I can never be angry with you, so feel free to speak your mind."
Emily sighed softly, "This pregnancy came too suddenly. I wasn't mentally prepared at all."
"It's okay, I've been prepared for a long time. By the way, what about the auto show? Although I'd love for you to stay home and rest, I know you can't stay put, so I respect your wishes."
Emily had originally planned to discuss this issue with him. Given Mr. Satan's concern for the child and his financial resources, Emily had thought she wouldn't be able to work outside anymore.
She felt delighted, "The next auto show is the day after tomorrow. I'll rest for a few days, and then I'll continue working as usual for the following ones. Is that okay?"
Mr. Satan didn't object. "As long as you're happy, it's fine. But now that you're pregnant, you have to be careful with everything, understand?"
Emily nodded heavily. "I will."Text © by N0ve/lDrama.Org.
"Good."
Back at the Hilton Hotel, Mr. Satan practically carried her the entire way, from the underground parking lot to room 2307, carring her from the living room to the bedroom without letting her feet touch the ground. Emily felt a bit embarrassed. "You don't have to be so nervous. Being pregnant doesn't mean I can't move around."
Mr. Satan gently laid her on the bed and raised an eyebrow. "Did you learn about pregnancy?"
"Well... when I was at the Reed's, I read a lot of books. I used to hope every day to have a child, but I never thought I would get pregnant so easily. God's will is truly
unpredictable."
Mr. Satan chuckled. "You sit here. I'll go make some food for you to eat." Emily widened her eyes in surprise. "Can you cook?"
Mr. Satan skillfully tied on an apron and rolled up the sleeves of his shirt to his elbows. "I never said I couldn't cook. I'm used to being alone. Before I met you, I used to cook for myself all the time."
"But all the kitchen utensils here are still in their packaging, and the fridge is empty..."
As Emily said this, she suddenly stopped, not continuing to say.
She just realized that before she met him, Mr. Satan probably didn't live in hotels. He had a home. He only settled her here and lived with her to avoid revealing his identity. "These are all newly bought," Mr. Satan said. "I threw away the utensils and the fridge I used before."
"Don't they suit your needs?"
"It's not that," Mr. Satan had already picked out some vegetables from the fridge and said softly, "I lived alone before, for thirty years. Work meals, sleep, watching movies, aft alone thought I would be lonely for the rest of my life, until you came into my life, Emily. Since you came, I'm not lonely anymore. I want to throw away all the loneliness from before."
He was lonely for thirty years?
After listening, Emily fell silent for a moment.
Allen Parker and Jackson's parents should still be alive. Why would he say he was lonely?
Emily didn't want to inquire too much, but she could finally be sure of one thing-
Mr. Satan was thirty years old this year, four years older than her.
This matched Allen Parker's age.
"What would you like for dinner, Emily?"
Emily thought for a moment. "I'm not picky."
Mr. Satan raised an eyebrow, neither confirming nor denying, and went to the kitchen. "I'll make you one of my signature dishes tonight."
"Okay, what dish? Since you love red wine so much, is it going to be pan-seared steak? Or foie gras?"
Mr. Satan's lips curled up. "Mapo Tofu."
Emily: "..."
Red wine with Mapo Tofu?
Wouldn't that combination be strange?
"Emily, it's a fusion of Eastern and Western cuisine."
"...Okay."
Mr. Satan continued, "Although foie gras tastes delicious, it's high in fat content. It's best not to eat it too much. I'll come home earlier from work in the future and cook for you."
