Obsessive CEO’s Sinful Wife

Chapter 518

Chapter 518

“By the way,” said Zandra, “We’ve been wondering about the nature of the relationship between you and Jackson Valor. Why don’t you tell us about it? You don’t mind satisfying our curiosity, do you?”

Serenity smiled gently and replied, “This is a private matter. I don’t think it’s appropriate to talk about it here.”

The looks on the three women’s faces changed abruptly when they heard this. Julia Wayne, the daughter of the Chairman of a convenience store chain, blurted out, “What’s so inappropriate about it? Is it because you’re hiding something humiliating? Is that why you’re so reluctant to speak about it?”

Serenity’s expression darkened. Sure enough. It had finally happened. She had been trying her best to avoid such a situation, yet there was no way to escape it now.

The hotel owner’s granddaughter, Yuna Keller, kept staring at Serenity’s face with a slight frown, almost as if she was deep in her thoughts.

Julia then continued aggressively, “You didn’t use some sly schemes to seduce Jackson Valor, did you?”

Serenity pursed her lips and replied, “I’m sorry, but there’s somewhere else I need to be. Please excuse me.”

She then prepared to leave. These women were obviously here to find fault with her. Things would only get more and more awkward for her the longer she stayed here, so the best thing to do now would just be to leave.

But they would not let her leave.

Julia stood in front of her and blocked her way, asking, “What’s the rush? Can’t you just answer our question before you go? If it’s nothing to be embarrassed about and if you’ve got nothing to hide, why don’t you just say it?”

Serenity looked up and eyed the woman in front of her. She knew then that there was no good way to end this situation, and since she could neither run nor hide from them, all she could do now was to face them head–on

“You’re Miss Julia Wayne, correct? Isn’t your family’s convenience store chain being investigated by the Tax Bureau for tax evasion lately? Why don’t you tell everyone what’s really going on? Is it true that your family has been evading taxes? If it’s just a misunderstanding, then why don’t you explain to everyone what caused this mix–up? By the way, I’ve also heard that the officials investigating this matter seem to have a particularly friendly connection with your family. Would you mind. enlightening us about the true nature of this connection? If it’s nothing to be embarrassed about, surely you wouldn’t mind sharing it with everyone?”

Julia’s expression turned ugly as she listened to Serenity’s barrage of words. The truth was that nothing could be more humiliating to her family at the moment than to have their tax evasion scandal exposed to the public. It was precisely the thing that her family had been trying to sweep under the rug and conceal from the rest of the work.

In fact, she had attended this banquet today with a clear purpose in mind–to ask for Zandra and Yuna’s families‘ help because both of their families had key connections within the Tax Bureau. If they were willing to help, her family could easily avert a possible disaster.

But how could she possibly just blurt out all these things in public after what Serenity had just said?! Content bel0ngs to Nôvel(D)r/a/ma.Org.

“Who do you think you are?!” she yelled, staring daggers at Serenity, feeling severely offended. “How dare you ask me all these questions?!”

“Then who do you think you are?” Serenity sneered, “I must say that you’ve got a clear double standard. If you’re unwilling to speak, then what right do you have to demand me to talk about my private matters?”

“You” Julia bad only been used to people flattering ber and praising her. She had never been treated this way before. Enraged, she raised a hand and was ready to slap Serenity, but Serenity effortlessly shoved her hand away.

Serenity then turned on her heels and prepared to leave. If she stayed any longer, she was sure to be caught in a humiliating scene. But just then, Yuna Keller, who had been silent up to this point, suddenly yelled, “I remember it now! She’s Zeke Shaw’s ex–girlfriend! The one who went to prison for killing Mira Hall, Jackson Valor’s former fiancee, in a car crash…”

Even as she spoke, Yuna found it all extremely hard to believe. How could the murderer who had killed Mira Hall end up together with Jackson Valor?!
