Chapter 18 Having a fever.

Chapter 18 Having a fever.

It was still raining. Raindrops were pattering on the window. From the window on the second floor,

Richard watched when Pearl got into a car. In the heavy rain, the car drove off, splashing water on the

ground.

He heard the butler (Jacob) speaking to him, "Sir, Albert just sent Miss Yonng home."

Richard let the curtain fall back into place. And his face was still solemn.

The voice in the call still echoed in his ears and he could not get rid of it.

"Sir, it's time for you to take the medicine." Jacob handed Richard a glass of water.

Richard returned to his senses. After calming down, he realized that something was wrong. He frowned

and ordered, "Tell Albert to see me when he comes back."

Seven years ago, they broke up. She eloped. Then she gave birth to a child abroad.

How many secrets was she hiding?

He was determined to figure it out.

After going back home, Pearl went to bed without washing her face. She had several sneezes before

her body temperature rose. As a doctor herself, she knew that she might a fever but she was toot sick

to get up.

When she was in a daze, she heard a voice.

It was a sweet voice. "Mommy."

"Hush, Bonny. Mom is having a fever."

"No! What should we do?"

"I'll ask Ethan what medicine we should buy."

"But it's raining outside. I'm going to change my shoes. Brandon, I'll go with you."

......

The night was getting dark and it was still drizzling.

In a pharmacy next to the street, two children picked some antipyretics. Then they went to the counter.

Bonny was wearing the red rain boots. Her hair was tied into two buns. She looked very cute. She tilted

his head and said to the cashier, "Sister, we want buy these bills."

The cashier was happy to see two such cute children. So she asked gently. "56 dollars in total. Where

are your parents?"

The cashier looked around but no adult was with them.

Brandon lowered his head to get the money while Bonny lay on the counter. She explained

noisily, "Mommy is having a fever. We're buying medicine for her."

It was late for Brandon to stop her.

Immediately the cashier took away the medicine they picked. She explained gently, "Sorry, we can't

sell medicine to children. That's a rule. You should ask an adult to buy it."

"Huh?" Bonny was taken aback and widened her eyes. "But Mommy is having a fever!"

"Then ask your father to come."

"We don't—"

"Bonny." Brandon stopped his sister and dragged her away from the counter. He said "Thank you!" to

her with a nod.

Then he pulled Bonny out of the pharmacy while she was pouting at him.

Under their umbrellas, Brandon made an order to his sister.

"Bonny, you can't tell the cashier that Mommy is having a fever. You must say Mommy is waiting for us

outside."

"Well, all right."

They were chatting as a low voice came behind them. "Wait a minute."

The children stopped and turned around.

A man squatted down in front of them slowly. A handsome and cold face appeared under a black

umbrella. He looked at them carefully and handed them a paper bag. The medicine they were trying to

purchase earlier were there. "Your medicine."

Bonny's eyes lit up. She reached out her hand to get the bag and chirped, "Thank you, Sir!"

"Bonny!" Brandon grabbed his arm back. He glared at the man warily and refused, "We don't need

it."
