Chapter 400 A Promise Earned

Donahueiel was stimulated by Janet’s attitude which was completely different

from when she saved him. He subconsciously looked up at her.

“Can you raise the bed for me? It’s hard to talk like this.”

His long limbs were cramped and uncomfortable in the hospital bed.

The mechanical creaking of the bed echoed through the ward, grating like a dull knife against the glass.

Donahueiel licked his dry lips, about to speak.

Janet let go of

the handle and beat him to it. “There are some things I won’t discuss, but you’ll find out soon enough.”

She continued with a businesslike attitude, “Beacher is responsible for what happened today, and I’ll ap

ologize on his behalf. The Webster Group’s crisis is also tied to the Smedley family. If there’s anything I

can do to make amends, just say the word.”

Though she was reluctant, Janet had a strong sense of responsibility. It was her principle.

Besides, the victim was Donahueiel. She didn’t want to owe him anything.

Donahueiel touched the gauze on his head and suddenly smiled.

“It looks like I’ve benefitted from this.” He looked up at the woman sitting

before him in her suit. Her eyes glinting with coldness immediately captivated

him. He suddenly itched to seize the opportunity to start over.

She didn’t have to get back together with him. All that he needed was a chance

to court her again. However, it was something else that came out of his mouth.

“Stay and take care of me for a few days.”

Donahueiel saw Janet frown and quickly explained, lest she refuses.

“There are a lot of things to handle in the company. Alfred has to be there

filling in my place, and no one will be here taking care of me.

He put his hand on his forehead and winced as a wave of pain from the

concussion washed over him.

Janet struggled to contain her anger and laughed.

“What kind of care do you need? Feeding? Bathing? Chatting? Toilet

assistance?”

Enduring his dizziness, Donahueiel leaned back against the head of the bed

and glanced at Janet’s tender hands. His heart skipped a beat, and he said

without much consideration.

“If it’s personal care, that would be best…”

“What kind of fantasy are you living in?”

Janet snapped, which instantly brought Donahueiel back to reality.

“Did you hurt your hand or your foot? All that you need is to stay in the

hospital for observation for a few days, and you want me to take care of you?

Chanter 400 A Promiss Camad

I’ll find you a nurse, or you’ll take care of yourself.”

Her tone was icy and her impatience with Donahueiel was clear on her face.

Donahueiel’s burrows were knitted together. He just wanted more chances to be near Janet, not someo

ne to wait on him hand and foot.

“I don’t need a nurse. I’m not comfortable with strangers near me.‘

Janet snorted and pulled up a chair. She sat down and gave him a stern glance.

Donahueiel gave a wry smile and backed down.

“Let me participate in your racing club project with Nigel.”

Janet looked at him seriously, her gaze seeming to penetrate his thoughts.

For the second time, Donahueiel brought up the project. Previously, Janet had merely assumed he’d m

eat to undermine it.

But now, his earnest tone left her questioning his true intentions.

It was undeniable that the Webster family boasted a long and storied history. Their

circle consisted of aristocratic friends and relatives, and Donahueiel was the sole heir to this prestigious

lineage.

She had to concede that his experience and connections surpassed her own and Nigel’s. Allowing Don

ahueiel to join could prove more advantageous than detrimental.

Janet gazed at Donahueiel in a way as if she were trying to read his mind.

She couldn’t shake off the feeling that this foxy businessman harbored hidden

complexities, and she resolved to investigate further.

Donahueiel, unnerved by her scrutinizing stare, pondered for a moment. “The

Webster Group has never dabbled in racing clubs and lacks expertise in the

field. However, market trends suggest that racing clubs are a lucrative

opportunity.”

Janet averted her eyes, her suspicions somewhat allayed.

The Longfellow Group could provide the venue and even professionals. The

Walter Group could supply the cars and maintain the security system, and the

Webster Group could leverage their resources and contacts for a share of the stock. It was a tenuous b

ut plausible arrangement.

Her fear wasn’t that Donahueiel had an ulterior motive. It was that he might

have none at all, leaving her to wonder what he truly desired.

Janet let out a sigh of relief. “I’ll think about it.”

Her attitude softened, and Donahueiel felt relieved. Even the dizziness seemed

to subside a little.

Janet stood up, grabbed her bag, and prepared to leave.

Desperate to keep her from leaving, Donahueiel grabbed her wrist and stared

at her with ardent eyes.

“Where are you going?”

Janet broke free from Donahueiel’s grip and held up her phone screen to the bridge of his nose.

“Look at the time. I’m going home to sleep.”

Donahueiel became anxious and grabbed Janet’s backpack strap.

“What if something happens to you when you leave?”

Janet tried to break off Donahueiel’s fingers and pull back the strap.

“Let go.”

“No.”

“I’ll say it again, let go!”

“No!”

Janet’s temples throbbed, and her hair was about to stand on end. She never knew that Donahueiel wa

s such a rogue.

Before Janet could lose her temper, Donahueiel rested his forehead on his

hand and grimaced in pain. He looked quite painful as he endured the sickness.

“I suffered a serious injury and lost a lot of blood. What if I faint in the middle of the night?”

Janet stared at Donahueiel’s clear, bright eyes and then looked down at his hand that was grasping the

strap of her bag. She had the urge to knock him

out.

“You won’t die from such a minor injury, but I care more about my reputation. A man and a woman stayi

ng in the same room in the middle of the night? Mr. Webster, do you want to hit the headlines again?”

When Donahueiel heard Janet bring up the old story again, he couldn’t help but defend himself. “I just h

elped her out, nothing else!”

Unexpectedly, Janet didn’t care about his explanation at all but pulled back her

bag.

“That’s not my problem, and I’ve already found someone to take care of you.”

With that, she headed out and opened the door.

“Sigh…”

A person stumbled in and kneeled on the ground like a frog.

Janet stood with her arms crossed and waved at the man on the bed with a

polite smile before she stepped over the visitor and walked away.

Alfred scrambled to his feet and awkwardly rubbed his hands together.

He hadn’t wanted to interrupt the two but had only eavesdropped through the

crack in the door.

But Janet had caught him and opened the door suddenly, causing him to lose

his bGilbertce and fall inside.

A gust of cold air hit him, making Alfred shiver.

Thinking the temperature was set too low, he turned to look for the air

conditioner but froze at the sight of Donahueiel’s sullen face.

It wasn’t the air conditioner that was making the room cold. It was his boss.

For the first time, he felt that a resentful husband was even worse than a

resentful wife.

“Who sent you here?”

Donahueiel’s words came out through gritted teeth, each one making Alfred feel like he was being skin

ned alive.

“Ms. Longfellow. She called me,” Alfred replied, unable to look up.

“She called you, and you came?”

Donahueiel’s whisper was like an invisible hand choking Alfred’s throat.

Alfred wanted to cry but had no tears. He had been genuinely concerned for Donahueiel’s well–

being and hadn’t thought it through. Who knew that his

boss would be so weak in front of his wife and turn into a ruthless shark in

front of him?

It was a sleepless night. In the ward, Alfred endured the coldness emitted by

Donahueiel and silently prayed that he would not catch a cold.
