Chapter 1153 Mutual Suspicion
“The risk is great in doing this,” Casper’s serious expression loosened slightly as he heavily patted Leon’s shoulder and said, “If there were other options, I wouldn’t let you go. But you are the person I trust the most, and among everyone else, only you can handle this heavy responsibility. So…”
“Mr. Wood, don’t say anymore. I already know!” Leon was deeply moved by Casper’s heartfelt words and immediately expressed himself, “Since the day I started working with you, I never thought of backing down. As long as it helps to take care of Nia and Kevin, it is also my greatest sincerity towards you!”
Leon felt that his sincere words were touching but did not know how harsh they sounded to Casper.
Casper hid his sarcasm between his eyes and motioned for Leon to sit on the couch with him before giving him detailed instructions one by one. Leon listened carefully without any doubt.
Towards the end of their conversation, Leon asked, “Mr. Wood, Tommy is our best fighter. Why isn’t he coming along? And what about Sage? He has been monitoring Nia and Kevin for a while now. He should be useful in this mission.”
Casper responded, “Tommy has something else to do, and Sage’s leg isn’t good enough for this mission. They will only drag you guys down. This matter needs to be done quietly so a few people like you are enough.”
“Okay, I’ll listen to your arrangements!”
That evening, upon returning to the apartment, Leon individually selected a few of the men appointed by Casper and conveyed his instructions to them.
When they heard that they could finally make a difference, everyone was excited. Tommy who had been sitting in the corner all along, worriedly expressed his concerns.
Others didn’t know what Caper’s arrangement meant, but Tommy knew! Weren’t all these people who Caper chose drinking together at KTV that night? Wasn’t Caper preparing them for suicide missions? How easy would it be assassinating Nia and Kevin?
Tommy understood, but hot-blooded arrogant Leon thought it would be as easy as pie. They almost certainly wouldn’t come back!Material © of NôvelDrama.Org.
Unable to resist feeling guilty, Tommy walked up cautiously beside Leon when everyone went off preparing. He asked softly, “Leon, you really want to go? Nia and Kevin have many people on their side. If things don’t go well, it might even cost your life.”
“You’re worrying too much.” Leon waved dismissively, “Nia and Kevin hired some ruffians. They probably haven’t even touched guns before. We’ll bring our equipment over there easy peasy. One shot each.”
“But they have always known Mr. Wood’s murderous intentions towards them and will be careful and vigilant. You may not necessarily gain any advantage,” Tommy continued to warn persistently.
“Tommy, you’re the toughest and most fearless one among us. You always rush to the front no matter what happens. Why are you being so indecisive now?” Leon chuckled speechlessly.
“Don’t worry. I’m not someone to be trifled with either.”
The more confident Leon was, the more worried Tommy became. However, there were some things he cannot say directly, so he can only repeatedly remind Leon to pay attention to safety and not be careless.
Tommy didn’t know that after everyone had gone to bed, Leon came alone to Sage’s room at night.
“Leon, why aren’t you resting so late?” Sage asked as Leon walked into his room and turned on the light. Sage got up with sleepy eyes to ask him, but before he could finish his sentence, Leon kicked him in the chest, causing him to fall backwards immediately.
“Leon!” Sage shouted in panic, but the next second he was subdued by Leon, who covered his mouth instantly. He looked at Leon with fear as he saw his fierce expression and murderous eyes. Sage struggled desperately.
“Speak!” Leon aggressively suppressed Sage and shouted angrily, “Did you report me to Mr. Wood?!”
Sage couldn’t speak and just kept stuttering and shaking his head. Leon glared at him fiercely for a long time before finally letting go of his hand.
Just as he successfully took in a breath of air, Sage immediately retorted,
“Leon, what are you saying! How could I possibly betray your secret to Mr. Wood!”
“No?!” Leon stood by the bed, with a fierce expression like a demon, glaring at Sage, “If it weren’t for you snitching! How could Mr. Wood suspect me?!”
“…. Leon….” Sage felt extremely aggrieved, and he pitifully asked back, “I really don’t know what you’re talking about. When did Mr. Wood suspect you?”
“If not, why would he send me to carry out this task? Others may not know, but I am well aware that there is a high chance I won’t come back from this mission!” It turned out that Leon knew all of this. When he heard Casper’s instructions today, he had already begun to doubt. However, due to the circumstances, he had no choice but to agree immediately. Tonight, he was here to confront Sage!
“Why is it always me, whether it’s buying a hitman or sending someone else? Why does it have to be me!” he exclaimed. “I am Mr. Wood’s right-hand man. If he didn’t have suspicions about me, he would never assign me such a task! I have only confided in you, and if it’s not you who leaked the information, then who could it be?!”
Furthermore, when he mentioned the idea of bringing Sage along today, Casper explicitly refused it!
Sage exclaimed, kneeling on the bed and addressing Leon. “It really wasn’t me! You can check for yourself. Ever since you warned me last time, I’ve secretly saved up a small fortune because I know you treat me like a brother. If I snitched on you, it would be like betraying myself. Why would I do that?”
Leon studied Sage’s panicked expression closely. Although he wanted to find even the slightest hint of guilt in his behavior, there was none besides fear.
“Are you sure it wasn’t you?” Leon asked.
“Leon!” Sage scrambled off the bed and went to his dresser to retrieve his bank card before handing it over to Leon and saying, “Check for yourself. There are hundreds of thousands in my account too! Do you think I’m stupid enough to betray you?”
Leon scrutinized the bank card for a long time before looking back at Sage and asking again, “Are you really sure it wasn’t you?”
“I swear it wasn’t me…” Sage felt as though he could rip out his own heart and hand it over if that would convince Leon.
Leon returned the bank card to Sage before slumping into an armchair with furrowed brows and muttering, “Then who could it be? Mr. Wood wouldn’t have suspected me without reason.”
Sage lowered his head upon hearing this statement as if struggling with something internally. Seeing this reaction from him only made Leon more suspicious until he grabbed hold of Sage’s collar demanding answers, “Do you know something?! Tell me if we’re brothers! Don’t let my death be in vain!”
Sage trembled with fear while avoiding eye contact with Leon who had grown increasingly agitated by now.
“If we’re truly brothers, then tell me what’s going on,” said Leon sternly.
