Chapter 29
Chapter 29
Candice was shocked. She frowned.
She instinctively looked at Alex who was standing a little further away and said, “I’m in a hurry. I don’t have time to have dinner with you
Duys.”
Sonia bit her lip in silence. She snorted and got up slowly before she walked back to Alex. She looked like she had suffered the greatest
grievance.
Alex stared at Candice coldly before looking at Sonia.
He asked gently as if he was cooing a baby. “Are you hurt?”
Sonia shook her head. “I’m fine. Alex, let’s go. We are bringing fish soup to my father.”
She then held Alex’s hand and walked away. When she walked past Candice, she intentionally looked away.
Alex allowed the girl to drag him like a puppet. He walked with large strides but he slowed down for the petite girl.
Fortunately, Candice’s grandfather was not severely injured. He was on his way back from school and a bike accidentally sped past him, causing him to fall and sprained his ankle.
He would be fine after a few days of rest.
Candice was worried, so she insisted he stay at the hospital for a few days. She asked the doctor for a medical certificate.
While she was on her way to pay the medical fee, she bumped into Alex at the elevator again.
He was alone and had a thermal flask in his hand.
He frowned when he saw Candice. “What are you doing here?”
Candice paused for a moment and then pressed the button. She said calmly. “My family is admitted.”
She sounded as indifferent as always.
Alex scoffed after a moment of silence. He looked at Candice, his deep eyes had a mix of frostiness and annoyance.
“Candice, you’ve really gotten creative lately.”
Candice did not understand what he meant. She frowned.
Alex sneered, “Your family is here?”
He knew Candice’s family’s situation better than anyone. Her divorced parents were not in Dorrington City and her only family, her grandfather, was in the nursing home behind the hospital
Alex narrowed his eyes and continued in a harsher tone, “But you better think of a better excuse next time.”
Candice was stunned. “What excuse do I need?”
“Alex”
hem. She was stunned when she saw Candice as well.
As soon as she finished, Sonia came running from in front of them. She
She took the thermal flask from Alex and said, “Alex, my father has something to say to you. Let’s go back to the ward.”
Alex hummed and nodded. He then looked at Candice and said coldly. “I’ll go visit your “family” later?”
He emphasized on the word “family” on purpose.
Candice’s hands balled fists tightly. She said, “No thanks.”
Sonia then realized the situation. She frowned at Candice and reluctantly asked. “Candice, your family is hospitalized as well?”
“Mhmm. I’m going to check in,” she said.
“This is the orthopedic department, is something wrong with your family’s bones or anything? Please take care.” Sonia said.
Candice inhaled deeply. “Thank you.”
Sonia then looked at Alex, whose eyes narrowed with something on his mind.
The girl was forced to keep a stiff smile and asked, “Can I know what happened to your family? I’ve been here a lot recently, and I’ve
learned a thing or two.”
“A bike hit him, but it’s not that serious,” Candice said.
The elevator bell dinged.
The doors slid open and a group of people rushed out.
Candice went in and headed downstairs to the reception.
To her surprise, new rumors about her spread in the office the next day at the company.
Since Joe was not seriously injured, Candice could return to work with peace of mind,
She still had to finish making changes to the document from yesterday.
After amending the document, she called the intern over and told the girl to deliver it to Mr. Nelson.
The intern stared at her for a while when she came over.
Candice paused her work and asked, “Is there something on my face?”
The intern apologized and left in a hurry.

Candice did not find anything strange in her reaction at first until she realized the others were looking at her with the same look.
Something was wrong.
However, she had always lived in her own world, so she was not overly bothered..
When Candice headed down to the Human Resources department in the afternoon, she bumped into Julie.
Julie was her arch–nemesis in the company, so she did not bother to talk to the woman.
Julie sized up Candice and said to the Human Resources officer, “I’ve heard of copycat but I have never heard of someone copying the same accident with the same family member. I really am surprised.”
Candice paused for a moment and looked at Julie.
Julie was not afraid of her. She took her things and strutted away arrogantly.
The Human Resource officer looked at Candice awkwardly.
Candice asked her. “What’s the new rumor this time?”
She was no idiot. Judging from Julie’s tone, she knew it must be related to her hospital visit last night.
In fact she was almost correct in her guess.
Early in the morning, someone spread a rumor about Candice copying Sonia’s family accident and headed to the hospital, all because she
wanted to compete for Alex’s attention.
The Human Resource officer did not elaborate.
Candice’s keen eyes captured the hint of disgust in the officer’s eyes.
Thoughts rushed into her mind. She headed to Alex’s office.
When she was in front of the CEO’s office. Sonia had a little cake in her hand and was smiling brightly.
The colleagues around her were cheering as well.
When Candice stepped inside, everyone’s smile stiffened.
Sonia reacted the lastest. She said, “Candice, is there anything I can help you with?
Candice glanced at her and sald without stopping. “I’m here for Alex”
She sounded cold.
Sonia was stunned and did not stop her.
Julie scoffed. “Look at her, she thinks she’s still all that.”
Sonia pursed her lips tightly. “Julie, don’t put it like that. Her relationship with Alex is different.“– Content protected by Nôv/el(D)rama.Org.
Candice went into Alex’s office.
The man was not particularly busy as well
“My grandfather was hit by a bike on his way back from school, He sprained his ankle,” she said emotionlessly.
Alex looked at her. “So?”
“Do you want to visit him? He asks about you a lot.”
Candice sounded calm but her curled–up fingers were a sign that she was nervous.
Alex looked at her in silence for a while.
Candice took a deep breath. “It’s okay if you don’t want to.”
“Why should I go? Give me a reason,” he said.
Candice’s heart sank. She really could not find a reason for Alex to visit her grandfather.
He was her boss, not her boyfriend.
On a more intimate level, she was his friend with benefits and no one would bring someone like that to visit an elderly member of the
family.
Besides, these two friends no longer had benefits for each other.
Ever since Sonia officially became his girlfriend, he had stopped coming to her.
Candice looked down and said in a hoarse voice, “I’m sorry, I was thinking too much.”
Alex looked at her. His deep eyes showed no emotions. He simply repeated, “I said, give me a reason why
