Joe caught the soft sobbing coming from the phone.
The moment the call connected, Skylar didn’t say a word. He could only hear her faint and restrained
sobs.
Joe immediately set down the pen he was holding and asked, “Where are you?”
After two minutes, Skylar managed to calm herself down and replied, “I’m at Oakdale Hospital.”

Aiken just smiled and said nothing.
If he could, he wished Skylar wouldn’t be so formal with him. But for now, that barrier of formality between them as friends wouldn’t be broken easily, not while she was still Mrs. Martin.
Shortly after Aiken left, Joe arrived.
