Bailey's pov
My bare feet crunch the grass under my feet and I cussed inwardly when I realized I forgot to bring shoes. I crane my neck to look at my room and let out an annoyed breath. I will not go back up there. Text © 2024 NôvelDrama.Org.
With that thought I looked around. I could not go to Mirabella's on foot, that clearly would not work. It's late too.
Raking my brain for a way to get there without mom and dad knowing, my eyes fell on my little sister's bright pink bike. It's small but not too small, just way girlie and well, very pink.
But it was the only way I could get to Mirabella's without walking there. I rushed to the pink bike, making sure to not make noise as I pull it gently off the wall it was leaning against. I looked back at the window, ducking when I noticed the silhouette of my dad.
If he catches me then not even mom would save me from not getting grounded for life!
I kept my upper half bent as I rolled the bike to the road. Peeking back at my house, I grinned in triumph. The lights were now off so that means they went to bed.
I giggle, straightening as I got on the bike and with determination to get back my bracelet, I set off for Mirabella's.
I got there in fifteen minutes, the muscles in my legs scream for mercy as they burn from being strained. As I slowed down their driveway, I panted. Despite the cold wind whipping at my body, sweat made my hair clung to my face.
The lights were still on and I can hear the chatter of the television all the way here. I knew that my surprising visit around this time would raise questions I obviously did not want to answer.
So I got off the bike and rolled it to the darker spot in the yard. Just beside the tree that many have used to get into Kaleb's room. The lights were off but the window was halfway open. My throat stung as I thought that perhaps he had left it open for some girl to sneak in tonight. It wouldn't be the first or last time.
I shook my head, confused by my bitter feeling. It almost felt like jealousy, but it couldn't be right? Kaleb and I would never happen.
I gently slant the bike against the trunk of the tree and looked up at Kaleb's window. I didn't think it would be wise to let Mira know I was here or let her see me.
I tucked my lower lip between my teeth wondering if he was in there or not. Only one way to find out.
Taking a deep long breath, I begun to climb the tree. My fingers grip the branches, my feet finding the notches with ease. It feels familiar, the climb that is. I can remember when me and Mira would climb it to prank Kaleb when we were a bit younger.
I settled on the last branch that overlooked his room and peeked inside. It looked empty, yet I didn't want to just go ahead and enter his room not knowing if he'd be back soon or not.
I waited for a few, trying to listen carefully to make sure he wasn't close by. I stayed there for five minutes and like a creep in the night I shifted to his opened window. I held my breath and peeked in, when the coast seemed clear enough, I slither my body between the space in the window.
His room is dark, but there's a soft blue lamp in the corner of the room, on top of the desk. Needing to be quick, I didn't really care to look around and rush to his bed. I pulled my phone out of the waistband of my shorts and put on the flashlight.
I aimed it at the bed and searched for my bracelet on the unmade bed. My fingers brush the sheets and a flash of me gripping them last night made my belly twist and my heart to race,
I shook my head, trying to rid myself of these past thoughts. I continued my search, skimming under his pillows and when I disappointed by the lack of not finding anything I huffed.
Frustrated I gripped the sheets and bit down on my tongue to suppress the scream that wanted to tear out of my throat.
Where is that damn bracelet!
I tugged at my hair, blinking as my eyes full with frustrated tears as the worse thought came to mind.
He didn't find the bracelet before I did right?
Mirabella didn't find it right? What if she did and that's why she asked about it last night?
My chest tightened as I bit back a sob. I fall to my knees, flashing the light on the floor and under his bed, rolling my eyes when I saw the porn magazines messily sprawled on the floor. But there are no signs of my bracelet.
I didn't want to give up and continued to search on the floor, even under the small crack under the bedside table, praying I would find it soon.
But my fate mocked me.
I quickly put the flashlight off when I hear the heavy footfalls nearing the room. My heart sped and my breathing quickened. Sweat bead on my skin as the small little hairs on my arms rise to a stand.
I couldn't get caught here. That would only lead to an explanation I wasn't able to provide. Panic surged through me as I considered my options.
I needed to hide and I needed to quickly.
As the heavy footfalls got louder, I fit myself under his bed, cringing when I had to snuggle closer to his porn magazines. God alone knew what bodily fluids were on those things.
Like you didn't get bodily fluids last night. My mind mocked me, making me wince.
The sound of the door opening sent a shiver down my spine, and my pulse raced even faster. I could hear Kaleb's footsteps as he entered the room. I knew it was him.
I pressed my lips tightly together as I keep my eyes on his moving feet. He draws closer to the bed, making me hold my breath in my lungs.
The sound of my racing heart pumps through my ears as he gets closer. He stopped beside the bed and suddenly his hand is in my vision. Clenched between his fingers....is my bracelet. Even though it was dark, I just knew it was my bracelet.
My heart thumps, my breathing growing heavier and faster when his voice teased me. " Were you looking for this flower?"
