Mission: From Divorcee to Millionaire

Chapter 62

Jaime thought it over for a second and then nodded. He trusted Callum to handle things well, and besides, Selena seemed to warm up to Callum more than she did to him-she actually seemed to dislike him quite a bit.

Of course, he wasn't entirely innocent. He had always looked down on Selena's timid and submissive nature, thinking she wasn't good enough for someone as remarkable as Everett. But, as it turns out, despite all his experience with women, he had completely missed the mark this time. Selena was actually a fierce and strong woman, and that was both refreshing and appealing.

Fixing their relationship wasn't something that could happen overnight.

When Callum pulled up at the curb, Selena was shivering in the cold, waiting for a ride. He rolled down the window.

"Selena, hop in. It's late, and it's not safe for you to head back alone. Plus, it's a nightmare trying to catch a cab right now."

Selena was adamant about not letting Jaime drive her home. She didn't want to accept what felt like a slap followed by a sweet treat from Everett, and she definitely didn't want Jaime to see her like this-red eyes and obvious bite marks on her neck. It was clear to anyone, especially someone as sharp as Jaime, what had gone down.

But Callum already knew about it and was quite considerate. Plus, Selena remembered she still needed to give him her gift.

"Alright." She climbed into the passenger seat.

Callum merged back into traffic, cranking up the heat and gently reminding her, "There's a blanket in the back if you need it."

Selena was impressed with his thoughtfulness. "Are you so sensitive because you're a doctor?"

Callum chuckled while steering. "You call this attentive? Isn't this something anyone should notice?"Exclusive content from NôvelDrama.Org.

She'd been hugging herself and jumping up and down on the spot, her legs turning a bit purple from the cold. Even after getting in, she was still shivering a little. She looked like a sad little kitten, and it was hard not to feel sorry for her. Selena's smile faltered as she looked down and mumbled, "Not everyone."

Someone like Everett never seemed

to notice whether she was cold or not. She used to think he was just clueless, but now she realized. maybe it wasn't ignorance, just indifference. en FindNovel

Feeling a bit down again, Selena turned to gaze out the window, falling silent.

The car pulled up at Moon Bay. Before getting out, Selena pulleda gift box from her bag and handed it to Callum. "Sydney told me you vouched for me. This is a little thank-you gift." en FindNovel

Callum paused, glancing at the gift box. "You didn't have to do that. It was no big deal."

Selena shook her head. "You've done so much, from helping with the gift to speaking on my behalf. I need to show my appreciation. It's nothing fancy. Just take it." She nudged the gift towards him again.

Callum gave in and accepted it with a smile, "Alright, I'll take it then."

Selena got out of the car, feeling satisfied, and walked into the villa.

Callum watched her vanish into the night, then turned his attention to the gift box. He opened it to find a pen inside.

He ran his fingers over it, a slight smile on his lips, before tucking it away carefully.

After a shower, Selena collapsed onto her bed, exhausted. She didn't want to dwell on the mess of the evening, so she decided to scroll through social media for a bit before sleeping, only to find it was buzzing with activity.
