Chapter 43
Selena knew better than to expect anything good from Margot, who always played the innocent card.
"You really don't need to ask her. She's a disgraced heiress, who's lost her husband's favor and is about to be shown the door. What could she possibly afford? The original price has already left her broke." Margot cackled, feeling full of herself. "She's not like me... My boyfriend spoils me. I can buy whatever I want."
She gave her assistant a sly wink, and the assistant handed over her wallet. Margot pulled out a black card and flashed it around for everyone to see.
Selena recognized it right away-it was Everett's supplementary card, which meant he had given one to Margot too.
She was bewildered. Sure, Margot's career was going well, but could she afford the pendant? That was over the top. Turned out, she was leaning on Everett's wealth.
Selena's heart gave a painful lurch.
When she got Everett's supplementary card, she was over the moon. She believed Everett was just shy and not a man of many words, but deep down, he liked her. Otherwise, why would he be so generous?
Now, staring at the same black card with Margot, she realized she was just fooling herself.
What she believed was special and exclusive was actually nothing at all!
"Selena, what's your move? If you don't have the cash, you might as well leave and stop wasting my time." Margot gloated, handing the black card to the salesperson. "Pick out a couple of bracelets for me, and let's wrap this up. Chop-chop, I've got things to do." The salesperson's eyes lit up. This sale was going to be a gold mine for her.
With a hint of apology, she turned to Selena. "Ms. Selena, if you're not going to raise your offer, I'll have to sell the pendant to Ms. Margot."
Selena unexpectedly broke into a small smile. "Alright."
Margot thought she'd see Selena all worked up, but no-Selena was cool as a cucumber and even smiled.
Margot was sure Selena wanted the emerald pendant to win Sydney's favor, to get her to forgive Ricky, and now that it was snatched away, Selena should've been upset.
Was Selena just too stunned to react?
Feeling even more pleased with herself, Margot sat across from Selena, subtly flaunting her diamond ring, which was sparkling in all its glory.
The challenge was clear, but Selena acted like she didn't even notice, unfazed and relaxed.
Margot finally had a chance to put Selena in her place, and she wasn't going to waste it. She lifted her chin arrogantly. "Selena, are you sticking around hoping to snag the
pendant?"

She picked up the pendant, pretended to admire it, and then let it slip. The pendant hit the ground, chipping a small piece off.
"Oh no, it's chipped." Margot covered
her mouth, feigning regret. She
glanced at Selena. "Good thing it's mine now. I was just buying it for kicks, so if it's broken, no biggie."
She expected Selena to be crushed, especially since she needed the pendant of Virgin Mary to make amends it was something valuable and couldn't be easily swapped out with just anything else. But to her surprise, Selena simply nodded and even sighed. "It is a shame, given its price."
Margot was in disbelief. Was Selena for real? Had she totally lost it?
Selena calmly took another sip of her coffee, then pulled out her phone and sent a few texts.
In no time, the salesperson came rushing over. "Ms. Margot, your card's been declined. It's not going through. Would you like to try another card?"
"What?" Margot, in the middle of sipping her tea, choked and started coughing, her face turning beet red.
She collected herself and snapped, "Impossible! That card can't decline. Is there something wrong with your machine?"NôvelD(ram)a.ôrg owns this content.
