Mission: From Divorcee to Millionaire

Chapter 38

Selena was visibly annoyed. He was such a jerk, and now she couldn't even call him out on it?

She hopped out of the car and caught up with him in a few brisk strides. Despite her frustration, she managed to calm herself. "Everett, if I apologize to Rebecca now, will you keep your promise?"

Was it really just about swallowing her pride for Rebecca? She'd been doing that for the past three years anyway. What was one more time?

But the feeling of injustice bubbled inside her, causing her to blink several times and look down.

Everett noticed her demeanor, furrowing his brow slightly, feeling an inexplicable sting in his chest.

Just as Selena was about to grab her phone, Everett casually said, "I've changed my mind. We need to renegotiate the terms."

Selena took a deep breath. "Going back on your word again?"Material © of NôvelDrama.Org.

She was starting to think he just enjoyed seeing her squirm, taking pleasure in the way her desire for a divorce seemed to challenge his authority. It was like he got a kick out of playing these games as long as it left her embarrassed. "Let's discuss it upstairs."

With that, Everett strode toward the elevator with long, confident steps.

Selena mentally cursed Everett a thousand times before following him.

In the executive office, Everett settled into his chair, legs crossed in an elegant pose, chin slightly raised. "What would you like to drink?"

She was so mad she could drink his blood!

Selena pulled out a chair and sat down, getting straight to the point, "Just get to it. If you've got something to say, say it. What kind of man beats around the bush?"

Everett gave her a cryptic smile. "Are you questioning whether I'm a man?"

Selena was left speechless.

He shot a glance at Derick. "Bring us two cups of coffee."

Derick nodded. "Right away, Mr. Everett."

But just as he was about to leave, Everett seemed to have a second thought. "Never mind, you can go."

Derick paused for a moment, glanced at Selena, and, catching the drift, left with a stifled chuckle, making sure to close the door gently.

Everett clasped his hands together and spoke softly, "Grandpa probably only has six months left."

Selena's head snapped up, disbelief written all over her face. "How can that be..."

She knew Josh wasn't well but hadn't realized things were this serious.

"In the time he has left, I just want him to be happy and not worry about anything." Everett's dark eyes locked onto Selena's. "So, I need you to keep being Mrs. Bennett. Keep doing what you've been doing."

What he really meant was that she had to stay stuck in this messed-up marriage, catering to him and the Bennett family's quirks, all while watching him flaunt his mistress and live as the perpetual outsider.

"Why should I?" Selena shot up from her seat.

Even though she didn't want to upset Josh, the idea of being tangled in a loveless marriage bound for divorce for another six months was more than she could bear.

Everett wasn't surprised by her reaction, narrowing his eyes slightly. "Grandpa's always been good to you. Is this how you want to repay him?"

"Don't try to guilt-trip me. This is different. I can only promise to keep up appearances in front of Grandpa. Nothing more!"

If this dragged on, Margot's child

might enter the picture, and if she got thrown out, she'd have no dignity left. How would she and her uncle's family continue to live in Newport? The gossip alone could ruin them.

"Is that so?"

Everett's expression didn't change as he tossed a document her way with a cold smile. "Take a look at this before you answer again."
