Meanwhile, behind another hedge of bushes.
Isabel had been hiding here for a while. She was wrapped tightly in bundles of fabric with a mask and a cap covering her face so she would not be recognized by the public. She stared intently at Moses and Caprice.
Her assistant was hiding with her. She was puzzled by Isabel's sneaky and suspicious behavior. "Miss, what are you looking for?"
Isabel narrowed the look in her eyes pensively. Then she turned around and went toward Liam's office tower.
Inside Liam's office.
This part of the city was closed off to the general public, away from the noise of the gathered tourists.
His tall and upright figure stood next to the French windows with binoculars in his hand. He was spying on the gathered tourists in the streets.
Everyone was gathered at Isa Tower. From this distance, all he could see was the top of their heads. There was no way to pinpoint where the silly girl was.
After a while, he set aside the binoculars and slumped back on the leather chair behind the desk.
He could hear muffled cries outside his office.
He heard Mitch speaking in a severe voice, "Miss Manson, you have been fired. Mr. Carter doesn't want to see you, please leave immediately!"
Heather cried out, "I need to hear it from him! I'm not leaving!"
Mitch was having trouble diffusing the situation. "Miss Manson, please don't make things difficult-
She shoved Mitch out of the way before he could finish his sentence.
Immediately afterward, the office door was flung open, and in came Heather, her eyes puffy and red.
She stomped toward Liam's clesk, her eyes were filled with anguish.
Mitch marched into the room as well and cast a frantic look at Liam.
Liam calmly waved him away.
Mitch promptly stepped out of the room.
Liam leaned comfortably against the leather chair. He picked up a cup of tea on the table and took a casual sip from it.
The leather chair creaked as he swayed back and forth nonchalantly. The entire time, he was staring at the view outside the window instead of acknowledging Heather.
Heather did not take her eyes off him the entire time. "President Carter, why? Has my work been unsatisfactory lately?"
"You know why."
Something gleamed in her eyes, and she whimpered. "I don't! I have completed every task you assigned to me. I don't know what exactly I've done wrong.*
Liam scowled, and a hint of anger surfaced underneath the shadow of his eyes. "If you don't know, then leave." He was not in the mood of entertaining her nonsense.
Panic seized her eyes as tears began to fall. "President Carter, I have been nothing but loyal to you. I take my work very seriously and have never made any mistakes since I began working here. Are you going to fire me just because I teased Caprice a little?"
Liam stated curtly, "You'll have plenty of job offers on the job market. I'll put in a good word for you as well. Consider this a token of appreciation for your contribution to the company."
His eyes never left the windows the entire time as he spoke without emotion.
Heather walked around his desk and went up to him.
*President Carter, I made a mistake. Would you please give me another chance? I just wanted to tease Caprice a little. I didn't expect her to get shoved to the ground."
Liam turned to her, his eyes dark with disdain.
Heather immediately zipped her lips. Her eyes were filled with pain and remorse, it was a look that would inspire pity in anyone with a shred of emotion.

He spoke without any warmth.
Heather was visibly affected by the tone of his voice. She asked bitterly, "I've stuck by your side for so many years. Do I mean nothing to you when compared to Caprice?"
Liam sipped from his cup of tea again to distract himself from his seething anger. "Don't test my patience."
Heather felt a sharp throb in her heart. Liam's indifference was too much for her. She lost control of herself and cried out, "Caprice is a worthless piece of garbage! She doesn't deserve you!"
