Chapter 1 New Surgeon Onboard
Chapter 1 New Surgeon Onboard
Saint Mary Hospital. Rock City. The emergency operating room.
The red light that had been on for three hours finally went off. Signaling that the surgery has finally
been completed.
New ER surgeon Emma Lang walked out, took off her medical gloves and mask, and threw them into
the trash can.
The resident surgeon next to her handed her the soap. "Dr. Lang, thank God you are the head surgeon
for this case. If it was another doctor, the patient might've died."
Emma Lang pressed the lid of the hand soap bottle and squeezed it twice. She rubbed her hands and
reminded her assistant surgeon seriously, "She's not out of the woods yet, we have to observe the
patient's reaction closely. Pay attention to—"
Halfway through the conversation, Emma's attention turned to the nurse running in the corridor and the
smile on her lips disappeared.
All the people in the emergency department were well-trained, so running in such a hurry could only
mean one thing: code blue.
Emma Lang didn't have time to finish the follow up work. She wiped the foam in her hands and strode
back towards the emergency room without even drying her hands.
Emma Lang had just pushed open the emergency room door when she heard a few nurses talking in a
hurry.
"What's the matter? Another emergency case?" RêAd lat𝙚St chapters at Novel(D)ra/ma.Org Only
"Yes, an unconscious patient has been brought in! The hospital dean is on his way over."
"Who's so important to alarm the dean?" Emma frowned. The Dean seldom came to the ER, unless the
patient is really important.
"William Montgomery!"
William Montgomery? Emma's breath hitches.
"Yup. The one and only. I heard that when he fainted, he was trying on his wedding attire with his
fiancée at the bridal shop...”
Emma's ears were ringing and she couldn't hear the rest. Her heart hammered in her chest till the point
it became almost painful.
At this moment, the nurse who was monitoring his heartbeat and blood pressure noticed her and
immediately handed her the blood test report. "Doctor Lang? You're here! Please take a look at his
results!”
The nurse didn't seem to notice Emma's pale face.
"Doctor Lang, the patient is suffering from low blood sugar, we've already put him on IV drip. But
looking at his blood test results, it might be acute gastritis?"
Emma tried to calm her racing heart as she took the blood test report with some hesitation. She looked
at the values and took a deep breath before telling the nurse, "Leave this to me."
"Then I'll go receive the Dean. Take care," the nurse said.
Emma could only nod in return.
After the nurse walked away, Emma picked up the medical kit from the table and walked to the bedside
of William Montgomery.
She slowly cast her gaze towards the man lying there, her suppressed emotions fluctuating again, and
the calmness on her face started to waver.
William Montgomery was still unconscious, his eyes were tightly shut, appearing tired and weak.
Even so, his cold facial features still gave off a strong sense of authority, making him seem very
unapproachable.
Emma's heart ached from just looking at him. It's been 7 years!
She had thought they would never meet again, especially not under these circumstances.
She instinctively raised her hand to touch his brows, but she retracted the moment she was about to
touch him.
Emma, what are you doing? You are just a doctor and he’s your patient! This is strictly professional.
When her rationality finally returned, Emma hid all signs of bitterness and looked away from William
Montgomery's gorgeous face.
Her fingers trembled as she unbuttoned his suit jacket. A clear and familiar scent entered her nostrils.
She held her breath, quickly pinched the end of the echometer, bent down and pressed it against his
stomach through the shirt.
The echoing of the stomach was clearly mixed. It was confirmed to be acute gastritis.
Emma stood upright and took another glance at him. She was so startled that the echometer in her
hand fell on the floor.
On the bed, William Montgomery, who was unconscious just seconds ago, had opened his eyes. His
tea-colored pupils emitted a deep cold light, staring straight at her face.
He suddenly raised his hand and grabbed her wrist. The IV needle loosened from the sudden
movement and blood instantly seeped out. Emma gasped at the sight, her pupils constricting.
The light in his eyes darkened as he scanned the nametag on her chest.
ER Surgeon, Emma Lang.
