Love's Redemption

Redmption 123

Redmption 123

Bree’s words took me by surprise.

But I continued, “Bree, I’ve resigned and already applied elsewhere. In fact, I’m having an interview today.”

“What? So soon?” Her astonishment was evident.

“Bree; the truth is, ever since the day Chris and I didn’t get the marriage. certificate, I’ve been planning to leave,” I confessed while maintaining eye

contact with her.

My gaze was steady, devoid of any hint of regret.

“Even if Chris is fine with it, staying at the same company after breaking up would make things awkward for me. And I’d rather not force it.

“So, even if Chris didn’t agree with my decision to resign, I intended to move on after wrapping up the amusement park project,” I explained frankly.

Bree shook her head. “Maddie, you don’t have to do this. If you feel awkward or uneasy, you could transfer to the subsidiary or another department and keep your distance from him.”

I

“Bree, I appreciate your concern about me facing difficulties elsewhere, but I feel it’s time for me to explore other opportunities,” I asserted firmly.

Bree’s eyes were once again brimmed with tears. She shook her head and said, “Why did it have to end like this?

“If you can’t be my daughter–in–law, that’s one thing, but now, you won’t even stay with the company. Maddie, are you planning to leave us completely?”

Her distress weighed heavily on me. After all, we had developed a bond over the past decade that couldn’t be easily dismissed.

“Bree, I promise I’ll visit you and Zack often,” I reassured her.

Upon hearing this, Bree wiped away her tears and asked, “Maddie, tell me. Did you already have a new boyfriend?

“Did you make this decision because you’re worried he might have NôvelDrama.Org owns this.

reservations about your past with Chris?”

I couldn’t help but laugh at her assumption. Brandon and I were just friends, yet everyone seemed to think otherwise.

“Bree, I’m not currently dating anyone. And even if I were, he doesn’t have the right to dictate my life. You’re overthinking it,” I clarified.

“Then, promise me you won’t leave the company, Maddie,” Bree urged.

She paused briefly before continuing, “At the very least, keep me informed of where to reach you. A simple phone call when I want to see you.”

Her reluctance mirrored that of a mother who was hesitant to let go of her

daughter.

“Even if I leave the company, I’ll still be working locally, Bree. I won’t be too far away. You can call me anytime you miss me,” I replied.

Bree fell silent for a moment.

Thinking we’d covered everything, I was about to end the conversation when she continued, “Maddie, there’s something I want to say, but I fear it might upset you.”

Her words made my heart skip a beat. It seemed she was about to broach a

sensitive or unwelcome topic.

“Bree, perhaps it’s best left unsaid,” I interjected.

She seemed surprised by my directness. She hesitated briefly, then smiled. But I have to say it, Maddie. It concerns your happiness.”

As expected of the chairman’s wife, she had a subtle way of approaching

sensitive matters.

I smiled faintly. “Go ahead, then.”

“Maddie, Zack plans to let Conrad grow independently by establishing a company for him. Would you consider helping him?” Bree’s words were subtle, but I understood her implication.

This wasn’t merely about assisting Conrad. She was attempting to set me up with Conrad after things didn’t work out with Chris.

Her demeanor reminded me of the old saying, “Charity begins at home“.

As the daughter that they’ve raised, I should marry the eldest, even if not the second son. She preferred that I didn’t marry anyone else.

“Bree.” I met her gaze directly. “If I were to date Conrad in the future, how do you think Chris would react? And how would the two brothers get along?”

Bree’s lips moved, and she finally said, “But I can’t bear to see you leave, Maddie. I truly can’t bear to

see you leave home or my side.” “In that case, I’d rather be your goddaughter,” I stated firmly.
