Chapter 226 Boys or Girls

“Okay, no matter if Maggie’s caught on or not, we can’t just depend on her and Nathael’s relationship. I say we take a gamble. If the Adams can do it, why can’t we?”

“Are you thinking about taking out a mortgage with the Harrises?” Noah questioned.

“Yeah, if we don’t risk it, we’re doomed for sure. But if we do, there’s still a slim chance…”

They discussed for a while, figuring out which assets to use as collateral, which projects to invest in, and which celebrities to endorse.

Afterward, they all left the study one by one, and Maggie powered down her computer.

Sitting at her desk, lost in thought, she mulled over Master Cameron’s earlier words.

Suddenly, the phone rang, and Maggie glanced at it. It was Timmothy.

She checked the time subconsciously and realised she was supposed to meet him tomorrow.

Timmothy?”

“Hey, Maggie. His warm voice came through the line.

“What’s up?” Maggie asked gently. This belongs to NôvelDrama.Org.

I caught your performance at the competition today. You’re really talented at the piano. I never knew,” Timmothy said, standing by the window while looking out into the night.

Maggie felt a bit puzzled but couldn’t quite grasp it.

“I took lessons when I was younger and stuck with it. Before I knew it, here I am.” Maggie replied warmly.

“I love playing the piano too. I used to get sick a lot as a kid, and my family wouldn’t let me play outside, so I ended up reading books and playing the piano out of boredom, Timmothy reminisced.

Maggie chuckled. “Sounds a bit sad, but having plenty of time to spend sounds like a good thing.”

When she was taken in by the Camerons as a child, she had spent a long time striving to excel, trying to prove to the Camerons that they had made the right choice adopting her.

She didn’t understand why she had to prove herself and repay them back then.

But now, she did. Even at a young age, she had a vague sense of the Camerons ulterior motives. Ronald and Olivia already had their own children, so there was no need to adopt her.

As the ‘extra‘ member who got to experience what she shouldn’t have, she had to be obedient and useful.

Only useful things wouldn’t be thrown away like garbage.

Timmothy fell silent. He had never heard such reasoning before. He never expected someone to view his secluded life as a good thing

He realised his life wasn’t so bad.

“Did you need something from me?” Maggie interrupted the silence.

“I just wanted to confirm if we’re still on for tomorrow’s house viewing at 2 PM, Timmothy inquired.

So, he’s confirming tomorrow’s plans.

“Meet you at your place at 2 PM?” Maggie suggested.

There was typically precise data provided by other company executives. But since she was the lead designer, she needed to inspect the site personally to better understand Timmothy’s preferences and ideas for better design outcomes.

“Okay, 2 PM it is.” Timmothy agreed, then asked, “Can I come cheer you on at your next competition?”

Maggie paused, not expecting Timmothy to make such a request.

The venue was a public event and had audience seats available, with some of them occupied by university students from Aquapolis and company corporate groups, and some open to the general public.

So, Timmothy could come anytime.

“Sure thing. There are plenty of talented performers besides me. If you like piano, you should definitely come watch. Maggie replied.

“Sure, but I haven’t seen anyone else play as good as you, Timmothy said sincerely.

Maggie smiled warmly and responded, “Thanks, but everyone has their own talents. Besides, I’m just a

novice.

After chatting with Timmothy for a bit, Maggie ended the call and then took a shower before getting into bed. She opened WhatsApp and sent Nathael a playful sticker.

The sticker she chose was a cartoon cat kicking another cat’s behind, causing the other cat to cover its rear in surprise.

The text accompanying the sticker read, “The other party kicked your butt and said ‘not bad.”

Shortly after she sent the sticker, Nathael’s video call came in.

Maggie put on her headphones and leaned back against the headboard, observing Nathael in the video with his slightly damp hair, seated at his desk going over documents. She suddenly remembered that his birthday was approaching.

With school and the Camerons keeping her occupied lately, Maggie knew she needed to refocus on her

work.

However, Nathael still needed one more crucial gemstone for the sapphire he desired, and she had been searching for the perfect one for some time now.

“Feeling brave, huh?” Nathael’s voice broke the silence.

Maggie smirked and replied expressionlessly, I’ve been down that road before.”

At his remark, Nathael chuckled softly and remarked, “Next time, I’ll get you back.”

Maggie’s face flushed momentarily for no apparent reason. She sent another playful sticker, this time a cartoon cat turning its head to look at him before letting out a fart.

The accompanying text read. The other party rejected you and farted at you!

Nathael was speechless.

Finding it amusing. Maggie selected another sticker–two white fluffy bears approached each other, bumped into each other, and then hugged tightly, showing affection with a hint of reconciliation.

A faint smile appeared on Nathael’s face as he saved the sticker and sent it back to her.

Maggie couldn’t help but return the smile, enjoying the exchange of stickers with Nathael for quite some time without getting bored.

Then, her phone alerted her of low battery and began to overheat. She glanced at the time and snapped

out of her reverie.

Wow

We’ve been on this video call without speaking, just exchanging stickers, and we’ve been doing it for a whole hour!

How childish!

Shaking off her thoughts, Maggie couldn’t help but scrutinise the man in the video. In the warm light, he sat upright at his desk, reviewing documents, occasionally jotting down notes or signing papers.

He was highly efficient, seemingly capable of solving any problem that came his way.

Yet, he still glanced in her direction every now and then, never ignoring her. Each time she sent a sticker, he took the time to reply patiently.

At that moment, Maggie suddenly felt her heart overflowing with a sense of contentment and joy she had never felt before.

All the loneliness and pain from being manipulated, deceived, and hurt seemed to dissipate because of his

presence.

Maggie suddenly found herself looking forward to the future.

When the Camerons face bankruptcy and everyone receives their due retribution and punishment, will we have our own children and finally find happiness?

Lost in her thoughts, Maggie unconsciously asked, “Nathael, do you prefer boys or girls?”
